With more than thirty thousand silver taels in hand, Stanley once again made his way to the shop that sold formation devices.
Having spent the past few days hunting in Shui Wu Mountain, Stanley's clothes were tattered in several places, making him stand out among the well-dressed customers in the shop.
"Shopkeeper, give me a first-level Spirit Gathering Formation device," Stanley said directly as he entered the shop.
The middle-aged shopkeeper behind the counter was momentarily stunned. "You really want to buy one? A first-level Spirit Gathering Formation costs ten thousand silver taels."
Clearly, the shopkeeper didn't believe that the ragged-looking boy could afford it.
Stanley didn't bother with a response and threw a thick stack of silver notes onto the counter.
Seeing the substantial amount of silver notes, the shopkeeper's expression brightened with a smile. He nodded eagerly, "Yes, yes, please wait a moment. I'll get it for you right away."
Shortly after, the shopkeeper returned, carefully holding a delicate round wooden box. "This is the first-level Spirit Gathering Formation you requested."
The wooden box opened to reveal a disk engraved with intricate patterns. In the center of the disk was a slot, and on the inside of the box's lid, there were simple instructions for use.
"I need a Vitality Stone to activate it?" Stanley frowned slightly.
The shopkeeper chuckled. "It seems you may not know, but most auxiliary formation devices require Vitality Stones to activate. Only combat-type formations are a little different."
"Here," Stanley tossed another ten thousand taels onto the counter. "Do you have Vitality Stones? Give me a few."
The shopkeeper's joy grew even brighter. He hadn't expected this unassuming boy to be so wealthy. He quickly ordered someone to fetch the Vitality Stones.
Soon, another wooden box was brought out, containing twenty palm-sized, milky white stones that emitted a soft glow.
Stanley collected his items and was about to leave when two people entered the shop.
One was a young man dressed in white, exuding an air of arrogance typical of a wealthy family scion. The other was a girl in a blue dress, with bright eyes, fair skin, and a seductive smile.
Stanley paused slightly when he saw them. It was Yedda and Fei Xu.
"Stanley?" Yedda looked at him in surprise, knowing that with his circumstances, there was no way he could afford anything from this shop.
"Hmph, look at your clothes—how dare you show your face in here?" Fei Xu sneered, his expression filled with disdain.
But Stanley ignored him and walked past them without a word, heading out of the shop.
Seeing Stanley blatantly disregard him, Fei Xu's face darkened. "Stop right there!"
Stanley turned around, his brow furrowed in irritation. "What do you want?"
"When I talk to you, you better listen," Fei Xu said coldly.
"Why should I?" Stanley chuckled dismissively and turned to leave.
"You insolent fool!" Fei Xu seethed with anger, but Stanley had already walked away, paying him no further attention.
Fei Xu wanted to teach this arrogant boy a lesson, but with Yedda standing by, he had to maintain his composure, so he could only suppress his anger.
"Half a month until the annual assessment... I'll enjoy watching you fail miserably against Hugh!"
...
After leaving the formation shop, Stanley went to a weapons shop and sold the sword he took from Yun Wang and the bow from Hyman, earning another eight hundred taels.
Next, he visited a pill shop and spent fifteen thousand silver taels on a bottle of Nourishing Pills.
But instead of returning to the martial hall, Stanley left Qing Yun City again and headed back to Shui Wu Mountain.
The mountain was serene, with abundant flora, making it an ideal place for Stanley to cultivate compared to the martial hall.
Finding a secluded spot, Stanley sat down cross-legged and took out the Spirit Gathering Formation device. He placed a Vitality Stone into the central slot, and the engraved patterns on the disk began to glow softly, drawing in the surrounding spiritual energy.
The Spirit Gathering Formation had the unique ability to gather the world's energy within a certain range, allowing martial artists to cultivate at an accelerated pace.
Stanley then swallowed one of the Nourishing Pills and closed his eyes, circulating his Invert Bone Material technique.
Spiritual energy, the essence of the plants around him, and the medicinal power of the pill converged, transforming into pure internal energy, which he channeled into his vital organs.
As time passed, the sky gradually darkened. Stanley had been cultivating for an entire day.
He could feel the strength of his heartbeats growing more powerful, his body filling with an immense surge of energy.
Boom!
A powerful force surged through his body, and Stanley opened his eyes, his face beaming with joy.
"I did it, the Seventh-level Lian Ti Realm!"
By now, night had fallen, and Stanley stood up, stretching his muscles. He could clearly feel the substantial increase in his strength.
Stanley hadn't expected to break through the bottleneck of the Seventh-level Lian Ti Realm in just a single day. From what he knew, others his age, especially those from wealthy families with even better cultivation resources, would take at least half a year, if not longer, to reach this stage.
"It must be the Life and Death Bead improving my body, making my cultivation speed so much faster," Stanley thought to himself.
This breakthrough had consumed two Nourishing Pills and two Vitality Stones for the Spirit Gathering Formation. The amount of energy he absorbed in one day would take others several months to refine.
Apart from the Life and Death Bead's influence on his body, Stanley's modified Invert Bone Material technique was more effective than even most third-tier techniques.
For the next several days, Stanley remained in Shui Wu Mountain, alternating between hunting during the day and cultivating at night. His constant battles with beasts honed his skills, while the nights were spent in deep meditation and cultivation.
Time passed quickly, and soon it was time for the annual assessment at Qing Yun Martial Hall.
Students from the basic class who had reached the age of fourteen, and those in the intermediate class who had reached seventeen, had to undergo the assessment. Those who passed would be promoted, while those who failed would be expelled from the martial hall.
In the expansive training ground, over a thousand martial hall students gathered, chatting in groups, the atmosphere buzzing with excitement.
On a three-meter-high stage stood a crystal ball on a central table. This crystal ball was a formation device used to test one's cultivation. By channeling internal energy into it, the ball would glow, and the brightness of the glow would indicate one's level of strength.
Many students about to take the assessment were anxious, while those confident in their abilities remained calm.
Stanley had returned from Shui Wu Mountain just in time. He first went to his residence, washed up, and changed into clean clothes before heading to the assessment site.
Most students at the martial hall were familiar with Stanley. It was said that two months ago, he had already reached the fifth-level Lian Ti Realm and even defeated intermediate class students. Passing the assessment was no concern for him.
As soon as the name "Stanley" was called by the elder overseeing the examination, the crowd's attention zeroed in on the black-clad youth.
Stanley had made waves at the martial hall in recent months, rapidly climbing to the fifth-level of Lian Ti Realm, even defeating students from the intermediate class. Now, all eyes were on him.
He stepped forward, his expression calm as he ascended the platform. Glancing down at the crowd, Stanley caught sight of Hugh and Troy, standing together with Harry and several others. Their gazes were cold and disdainful.
Hugh, who had reached the Eighth-level Lian Ti Realm, wore an arrogant sneer, confident that Stanley would be no match for him. He intended to cripple Stanley during their inevitable duel, ensuring that the martial hall would have no choice but to expel him.
Stanley's lips curled into a subtle smirk. He was eager to witness their reactions when they realized his true strength—he had not just reached the sixth-level, but had already broken through to the Seventh-level Lian Ti Realm.
He calmly placed his hand on the crystal ball, channeling his Life and Death Qi into it.
"Buzz!"
A brilliant light erupted from the crystal ball, far brighter than any of the previous participants. The dazzling glow captured everyone's attention.
"Is it the nineth-level of Lian Ti Realm?" The elder jumped up in surprise, his face lit with astonishment. But after a brief pause, he collected himself and took a closer look. "No, not the ninth-level... it's the Seventh-level Lian Ti Realm!"
