"It doesn't cost much to buy some breakfast, sister, I know that," Mila Hai reassured.
Mila Hai's income was not low. She would assist her sister but wouldn't put all her income into it. She also wanted to save up to buy a house.
"Has Ethan eaten?"
Mila Hai asked and placed her hand on Ethan Zhou's forehead. His body temperature was average.
"He had milk powder, and I'm cooking rice and bone porridge. Once it's ready, I'll feed him so he won't be hungry."
Anna Hai took great care of her son.
"Anna, William Zhan will be back in two days. His parents are coming over this Saturday. You and Matthew should also come to Minyuan Garden to meet his parents. Please let him know."
Upon hearing this, Anna Hai exclaimed happily, "Oh! He's back from his business trip?"
"He said he'd be home by Friday night."
"Okay, I'll tell Matthew."
Mila Hai had suddenly married, and Anna Hai knew what was happening. She sensed the lies but didn't confront her. She was genuinely concerned that her sister might be making the wrong decision in marriage.
She had never seen what William Zhan looked like in person.
Meeting her sister's parents was significant for Anna Hai.
After spending some time at Anna Hai's place, Mila Hai headed to work.
Once Mila Hai left, Anna Hai fed her son porridge and took him out. One was for a walk; the other was for shopping. She wanted to buy a couple of new outfits to wear on the day when her sister met her in-laws.
In her younger days, Anna Hai had been meticulous about her appearance. Though her clothes weren't from top brands, they were of much higher quality than those from street vendors. Now that she was married with a child and no longer working, her source of income had vanished. All her past savings had been spent on home décor.
Now, she spent her money cautiously, mostly on her family and rarely on herself.
To make a good impression on her sister's husband's family, Anna Hai bought two relatively high-end outfits for herself and even purchased a new suit and tie for her husband.
Just as she exited the clothing store, she received a call from her husband.
"Hello, dear," Anna Hai greeted, holding her son and pushing the stroller while answering the phone.
"What did you buy again? You spent over a thousand in one go. You've used up most of this month's living expenses. Let me tell you, living expenses are shared equally. The thousand you spent today is yours. If we run short later, you'll have to figure something out yourself."
Anna Hai's husband, Matthew Zhou, also provided a bank card for his wife, similar to what William Zhan did. He transferred a set amount of money each month for household expenses. However, Anna Hai's card was linked to his phone number. For any transactions, he would receive notifications.
Their monthly food budget for a family of three was kept within 100 dollars per day. Matthew Zhou transferred 3,000 dollars into their family bank card monthly. If Anna Hai saved some, she'd still have a few hundred dollars as pocket money. If their child fell ill and needed medical attention, they would use part of the three thousand dollars, but they would usually have some left by the end of the month.
When she went out, she forgot to bring her bank card, so she used the household card for payment. Unexpectedly, her husband called to question her soon after she left the clothing store.
