"Mr. Zhan, what's the matter?"
Mila Hai's voice floated from the balcony.
Nibbling on a fried dough stick, William Zhan strolled over to the balcony, replying, "Don't fret too much about your sister. The car your sister accidentally scratched belongs to a significant client of our company. I mulled it over last night and got in touch with Mr. Lu. He mentioned that the repair cost for his car would only be 10,000 dollars."
Despite her lively engagement with the flowers and plants, William Zhan could sense her altered demeanour. It was evident that she hadn't slept well the previous night. The cause of her sleepless night was undoubtedly her sister's actions.
Mila Hai gazed at him while he casually munched on the fried dough stick. She noted how undemanding he was with his meals, easily contented. Curiosity piqued, she asked, "How did you figure out it was your company's client's car?"
Her sister didn't even know the car owner's name. All she could share was that he was tall, formidable, and somewhat intimidating, with a scar on his face. Ethan was deeply fearful of this person.
"Yesterday morning, Mr. Lu visited our company, and I happened to meet him. I noticed his car had been scratched. After a few inquiries, Mr. Lu informed me it happened from a stroller used by a woman with a baby."
"As you recounted it last night, I pondered if it could be such a coincidence. So, I called Mr. Lu and inquired, is your sister named Anna Hai? Mr. Lu affirmed and requested your sister's number to discuss the repair fee. Once you're available, contact your sister and arrange for compensation."
After Mila Hai positioned a potted plant, she straightened up and said, "My sister's name is Anna Hai. What a coincidence. Mr. Zhan, did Mr. Lu really state that the repair fee is just 10,000 dollars?"
Her sister could still manage tens of thousands of dollars.
"I confirmed with him, and that's what he conveyed."
Mila Hai breathed a sigh of relief. "That's a relief. Mr. Zhan, thank you."
Both sisters had been fretting over potentially hefty expenses. Knowing now that the repair cost was a mere ten thousand dollars, Mila Hai felt the sunlight outside had taken on a newfound brightness.
Simultaneously, she reflected on how, since her whirlwind marriage, even though they were once strangers and unfamiliar with each other before getting married, William Zhan always found a way to resolve any issue she mentioned to him. He emanated capability and strength, fostering a sense of dependence within her.
"You're welcome."
Seeing her relief, William Zhan's mood lightened.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Mila Hai's phone chimed.
Swiftly retrieving her mobile phone, she answered. It was her sister.
"Anna, I was just about to call you. I informed your brother-in-law last night about your situation. Coincidentally, the car owner is a customer of William Zhan's company. William Zhan inquired about the repair cost. It's over 10,000 dollars. Anna, can you manage it?"
Mila Hai hadn't slept well due to her sister's incident, and Anna Hai, the person directly involved, was no exception. In the past, if she were still working and earning a substantial income, she wouldn't fret about compensation. But now, as a homemaker with no income, her husband criticized her for being a troublemaker and angrily stated that if he didn't help pay, she would be even more sad than her sister.
"I can gather more than 10,000 dollars. You had asked me to save half of the usual living expenses you provided, without informing your brother-in-law. That amount should cover the repair costs for the other party."
"Oh, I called to discuss this. The car owner messaged me around two o'clock this morning. He provided an account and asked me to transfer 9,000 dollars to that account. I wanted to inform you as soon as I woke up and saw it, to ease your worries."
"Now it seems Mr. Lu didn't insist on full payment."
Though the repair cost exceeded 10,000, she was only asked to transfer 9,000 dollars, retaining the remainder, likely to save face for her never-before-met brother-in-law.
Anna Hai had formed a positive impression of William Zhan, her brother-in-law.
Her husband dubbed her a troublemaker when a predicament arose, asserting it was her fault. They were married, and he deemed it impossible to assist with the finances. Thus, she had to navigate this on her own.
