"But her brother-in-law had helped her inquire, probably interceding with Steven Lu so that Steven Lu would ask for less money from her. Of course, nine thousand dollars was still a substantial amount for her at the time. Let's think of it as a lesson learned, a reminder to be careful when navigating the streets. Luxury cars are out of our league!"
"Is your brother-in-law coming back soon?"
"Yeah, he'll be back tomorrow."
"That's good. Your brother-in-law and I will head there early the day after tomorrow. I assume you can cook for yourself, right? I'll come to assist you."
Anna Hai, who had been reliant on her sister for many years, was capable in the kitchen but now had a baby to care for, and her source of income had been cut off. She was constrained to be a housewife, suppressed by her husband.
The two sisters chatted on the phone briefly before ending the call.
"Mr. Zhan, do you have to work overtime every night?"
"Is something wrong?"
"The weekend is approaching. Grandma and your parents are coming over for dinner. Our house is quite empty. I thought, let's dedicate the next two days to shop for furniture and buy everything we need."
William Zhan fell silent. He was extremely busy at work, his schedule packed every day. Finding time to accompany her to buy furniture was indeed challenging.
Seeing his silence, Mila Hai spoke considerately, "If you don't have time, I can handle it myself."
William Zhan hummed, "You're the mistress of this house, and you have the final say on matters at home. Just inform me about significant decisions."
He had little time to tend to the minor details at home.
"Alright, I'll inform Judy that I won't return to the store today and will go shopping."
Their family needed to be supported.
William Zhan said nothing, turned around, and returned to his room. He emerged from the room shortly and informed Mila Hai, "I'm heading to work."
"Drive safely."
Mila Hai cautioned casually.
William Zhan left with the unopened steamed dumplings and soy milk.
He departed Minyuan Garden in the business car he had bought, pretending to be modest in front of Mila Hai.
Once out of the community, he spotted his Rolls-Royce and the bodyguard car parked on the side of the road, so he pulled over.
"Sir."
The bodyguards swiftly got out of the car.
They accompanied him to the Rolls-Royce and opened the door for him.
A bodyguard asked respectfully, "Sir, would you like us to dispose of it for you?"
He referred to the uneaten steamed dumplings that William Zhan was still carrying.
William Zhan nonchalantly handed the untouched steamed dumplings to the bodyguard without a word, leaving the handling to them.
The door closed, and the car started moving swiftly, seamlessly blending into the traffic flow.
Mila Hai spent a day running around and finally procured all the essentials missing at home.
The kitchen utensils she had ordered online had also arrived one after another.
Perhaps she wasn't a conniving girl. She had married him for no reason but to find a stable abode. After all, she had been living in her sister's house, feeling dependent on others.
During her busy moments, time seemed to fly, and before she knew it, it was Saturday.
