Rowena, whom he hadn't seen for ten years, suddenly came to visit and hired Mitchell as her husband with a dowry of one billion, without saying a word. This made Mitchell feel like he was an auction item, losing all sense of his dignity.
The atmosphere became tense as everyone fell silent.
Rowena's expression changed as she pondered for a moment and looked at Mitchell.
"Are you so disgusted by me being your wife?"
Rowena's words instantly caused Mitchell's anger to subside.
He felt a little embarrassed. Rowena was, after all, a fair-skinned, beautiful, and long-legged rich girl, and they had been playmates during their childhood, making it difficult for him to stay angry at her.
So, he lowered his head and whispered, "Ahem... that's not true. The main reason is that the 21st century advocates free love. Besides, we are not in love..."
"Love can be cultivated," Rowena said, smiling.
Mitchell was fascinated again; he finally understood seeing a charming woman in action.
"Alright, Mitch, I've decided that Rowena will be my granddaughter-in-law." Bowen's words were firm.
"Grandpa, I—"
"If you still have any objections, you can speak up, but I won't heed any of it."
Bowen took the chance to stop Mitchell from talking. Then, he looked at Rowena with a strange expression. "Haha... By the way, Rowena, I fully support your marriage to Mitch, but there is something very important I need to tell you in advance."
Rowena replied, "You may say it directly."
Bowen sighed helplessly and said, "Rowena, actually Mitch has another marriage contract."
When Rowena heard this, she frowned, her expression filled with concern.
Mitchell, who had just calmed down, jumped up agitatedly. "What the heck, Grandpa? Are you kidding me? April Fool's has already passed!"
Bowen stroked his beard and said seriously, "I'm being serious. In fact, when you were still young, I already signed a marriage contract for you with Nina from the Shaw family in Lotusville."
Mitchell's lips curled up in disbelief. He couldn't help but scratch his head and smile bitterly. "Uh... it's been 18 years, and now you're telling me I have a marriage contract? Are you even my grandpa or not? By the way, who is Nina? Do you have any photos? I've never heard of her..."
At that moment, a gleam flashed in Rowena's eyes. Everything seemed to be God's will; the woman Bowen talked about was an old acquaintance of hers!
Nina, the daughter of the Shaw family, one of the four major families in Lotusville, had taken the position of general manager of Shaw Group at a young age. She was the favorite of financial magazines and a proud figure in the financial circle.
The most interesting part was that although Rowena and Nina both hailed from one of the four major families and were regarded as "the two most powerful people" by the business community and media, they were incompatible rivals! They had clashed countless times without gaining any advantage over each other in the business world, and their private relationship was even more precarious.
But one thing that ordinary people didn't know was that Rowena and Nina were once classmates in elementary school.
"Rowena, you look unwell. Are you okay?" Bowen asked, concern evident in his tone.
Rowena replied, "I-I'm okay."
Bowen had a knowing look on his face and hinted, "Girl, don't worry. With Mitch by your side from now on, the root causes of your childhood illness will get better."
Hearing this, Mitchell turned his head and glanced at Rowena again. After examining her carefully, he realized that she looked sick underneath her strong and willful appearance.
"Mr. Quinton Sr., just cancel the engagement. Nothing will happen," Rowena said, regaining her composure and speaking calmly.
Bowen looked troubled. "Rowena, our family actually received favors from the Shaw family in the early years, so it may not be easy to withdraw from this marriage..."
Rowena was calm. "It doesn't matter. When the time comes, I can personally take Mitchell there to cancel the engagement. As long as I am here, the marriage will definitely be canceled."
"Pfft... oh my god. What the hell is going on?"
Mitchell was taken aback, musing about how city people were so carefree. Rowena first offered him 10 billion to become her live-in husband, and now she wanted to personally take him to the Shaw family to cancel the arranged engagement.
He wondered what kind of woman Rowena truly was.
But when Bowen heard this, he smiled so widely that his lips nearly reached his ears as he quickly pocketed the bank card and the share authorization letter.
"Hehe, Rowena, your words ease my mind. I've accepted the gifts. You can take him away now. Hahaha!"
Bowen's words were proof that this was a "cash on delivery" deal.
Rowena stood up, swaying her long legs, and eliciting an urge to nosebleed in those who looked at her.
"Okay, come with me." Rowena walked up to Mitchell.
Mitchell was stunned momentarily. Then, he immediately ran and hid behind Helena, who was his last life-saving straw.
"Helena, I don't want to be her husband. I want to be free! You have to stand up for me."
Helena, notorious for her doting on Mitchell, said sternly, "Ms. Ximenez, what my brother refuses to do, no one can compel him to."
Mitchell's eyes sparkled. It felt so good to be protected by his sister.
But Bowen wore a strange, sly smile/
"Mitch, you have to know that the Ximenez family is wealthy in Lotusville. After you go there, you can eat the best hotpot every day."
"Slurp..." Mitchell swallowed his saliva.
Seeing this, Bowen asked, "Are you really not willing to be Rowena's husband?"
Mitchell gritted his teeth, his face set with determination. He roared, "That's right! Even if I starve to death today, even if I have to jump from this mountain, I won't marry Rowena."
He was proud of himself for saying this.
Yet, Bowen's next sentence brought him back to reality. "Okay, if you don't want to, then don't. You can stay on the mountain forever. Don't even think about going down the mountain again in this life."
Mitchell suddenly became anxious. "Oh, Grandpa. What the hell?"
Bowen replied, "Leeroy, get people to block all exits down the mountain."
"Hey, hey, hey, don't! Think twice, Grandpa... Come on, I'll do it! I'll marry Rowena, okay?" Mitchell slumped back in his seat, looking in despair.
Bowen smiled, knowing his plan had worked.
Mitchell had wanted to go down the mountain for the past eighteen years. As his grandfather, Bowen understood the principle of hitting him where it hurt the most.
"Hahaha, Rowena, Mitch has agreed! Then I will leave him to you. Just wait for him to pack his luggage, and then he can go down the mountain with you." Bowen stood up, smiled broadly, and walked out of the house.
Mitchell sighed, realizing that Bowen was great at scheming against him. He was indeed worthy of reading erotic literature at his age.
At that moment, Rowena looked at Mitchell and said in a slightly sarcastic tone, "Didn't you just say that even if you starve to death or jump off the mountain, you won't marry me?"
Mitchell's words had come back to haunt him.
He smiled awkwardly before smiling. "Haha, I get to marry a rich and beautiful wife like you for nothing. It's my honor!"
The two exchanged a glance, but each harbored their own hidden intentions. This scene felt like a reenactment of that summer 10 years ago.
In reality, Mitchell did not give in at all. He had other plans in mind.
When Mitchell compromised, a plan had already formed in his head. He would first pretend to agree to be Rowena's husband, and when he descended the mountain, he would escape.
But this spirited young man was still too naive.
Rowena had spent so much money on him, and there was no way she would allow him to escape.
