Brandon's voice was sharp and cutting as he finally dropped all pretense. "Well, well, Imani, you're something! Fine, I might as well tell you the truth. I've slept with over fifty women. Do you think I'd change just because you're my fiancée? Even if we get married, I'll still bring women home! If you can tolerate it, then suck it up. If you can't, tough luck—you still have to put up with it! If you couldn't handle this, you shouldn't have engaged with me!"
"Get this through your head—the Thubron family practically begged me to accept this engagement like it was some grand favor. I didn't even complain about you being a secondhand woman who's been with some damn chauffeur, and now you're here pretending to be pure, acting all high and mighty as the Thubron heiress. Do you want to break off the engagement? Sure, but you have to agree to one condition!"
Imani took a deep breath. "What condition?"
Brandon sneered. "Let me have my fill of you first. Afterward, you can crawl back to that chauffeur or find another idiot to take you in. I won't stop you."
Imani forced herself to stay calm. "Alright. Since you've made things this ugly, I do not need to hold back either! If you think I'm some weak woman, you can toy with however you want, you're dead wrong!"
"You want to turn this into a scandal? Fine! Let's do it! I'll call up my contacts in the media right now and tell them everything that happened last night is true. Sure, I'll be ruined—but you'll be a joke to everyone in our circle! If the great heir of the Quinny family isn't afraid of humiliation, why should I be? Worst case scenario, we both go down together!"
Brandon's expression darkened as he hesitated. Gritting his teeth, he spat, "Alright, Imani, you've got guts. I underestimated you! That damn chauffeur—is he with you right now? Tell him this isn't over. My people are already looking for him!"
Imani frowned and glanced at Adonis, deliberately distancing herself. "This has nothing to do with him. I don't even know him. Whatever you want, take it up with me!"
Brandon burst into laughter, mocking her. "Nothing to do with him? He slept with my fiancée and even beat me up, and now you're telling me he's got nothing to do with this? Imani, you are a filthy whore! Just one night with him, and you're already standing up for him? But you know what? You two are a perfect match."
"It's useless to argue now. Tell that guy he won't make it out of Eastvale. I'm going to kill him! Do you want to blow this up? Go ahead! But if you don't want things to spiral out of control, you'd better show up at the Quinny Residence immediately. Don't test my patience—I've got all the time in the world, but you don't!"
Before Imani could respond, the call ended abruptly.
Sneering, she tossed her phone aside. "I told you to leave earlier, but you wouldn't listen. Now look—you can't leave even if you want to."
Adonis ignored her sarcasm. "I never planned on leaving."
Imani's frown deepened. "Adonis, stop trying to act tough. You heard the call—Brandon isn't going to let you off."
Adonis remained unfazed. "I already said it's fine. Go home. I'll handle the rest."
Imani turned to him. "Handle it? How exactly do you plan to handle it?"
Adonis didn't bother explaining. "That's my problem, not yours. I told you I'd take responsibility for this."
Imani scoffed, unrelenting. "You can't even protect yourself and still want to take care of me? Can a mere chauffeur like you solve the Thubron family's problems? Stop being so naive. This isn't as simple as you think!"
Adonis wasn't fazed. Instead, he abruptly asked, "Be honest with me—was last night your first time?"
With the heater running inside the car, the air grew hotter.
After a brief silence, Imani looked out the window. "Does it matter if it was or wasn't?"
A moment later, she turned back to him, the coldness in her eyes softening slightly. "Adonis, last night's event wasn't your fault, and it wasn't mine. I know you want to take responsibility, and I appreciate it, but you really can't fix this mess. Listen to me—take this money, leave Eastvale, and consider us even. That would be the biggest help you could give me. As for Brandon, don't worry—I'll make sure he lets you go. But the Halenkamp family is a different story. If you piss them off, there won't be anything I can do to save you. I don't have that kind of influence over them."
Adonis's eyes darkened. "How do you plan to make Brandon let me go?"
Imani mimicked his tone. "That's my problem, not yours!"
Adonis seemed to realize something. "You're not planning to go to the Quinny Residence, right?"
Imani frowned and repeated, "I said, don't worry about it."
Adonis's voice suddenly turned sharp. "You know exactly what he wants! If you go there, do you think he'll talk? Will you let him do whatever he wants to you?"
Imani met his gaze head-on, her aura just as fierce. "Adonis, watch your tone! You're just a chauffeur I hired. We have nothing to do with each other. Because we shared a bed last night, do you think you have a say in my decisions?"
"Let me remind you—Brandon is my fiancé. I'm the future daughter-in-law of the Quinny family. Even if I stay at the Quinny Residence tonight, It's none of your concern!"
Adonis's anger finally erupted. Staring into her cold, defiant eyes, he felt an uncontrollable surge of frustration. In the next second, he grabbed Imani's face with both hands, roughly pressing her startled expression against the seat.
Imani's eyes widened in shock, completely caught off guard. Last night, she had been too drunk to register anything fully. This time was different. She was fully aware. The heat in the car, the firm grip on her skin, and Adonis' scent filled the space—with a faint trace of tobacco.
Imani had always despised the smell of cigarettes. To her, men who smoked were filthy, greasy, and repulsive. She would usually avoid them. No one in Thubron Group had ever dared to smoke around her. But now, that same scent inexplicably brought her a sense of security. The ice in her gaze melted slightly, and her hands reached out without realizing it, resting on Adonis' broad shoulders.
