As soon as Dante spoke, everyone finally believed he had recovered. His words sounded menacing.
Raymond was overjoyed, grabbing Dante's hand and holding on for a long time without letting go.
Karina was also delighted at first but then felt disheartened. Even if he had recovered, he couldn't compare to Drake.
Dante realized that his father-in-law was truly sincere toward him.
Drake's expression darkened. Simone said sarcastically, "What kind of nonsense is that? Drake can buy a car worth over 80,000 dollars. Selling you—how much do you think you're worth?"
Dante shrugged. "I'm worth quite a bit. Two kidneys and a heart should be worth at least one million. Who knows if the money would tempt Drake?"
"Drake can make a few million just by doing a small construction project."
"Mom, why are you arguing with a lunatic?"
"Dante, that's an immature way to talk!"
"Who else besides your relatives would give you such a good opportunity?"
"You don't want to put in the effort and are a coward too. Even if you're cured, you probably won't have much of a future!"
The relatives all started gossiping among themselves.
Grace's expression turned icy. Every word these people spoke was a slap in her face.
Since it was her uncle's birthday banquet, she tried hard to control her anger and not lash out.
Karina's face turned livid with rage. If Raymond hadn't held her back, she would have stood up and cursed them out.
Raymond's anger flickered momentarily, but he quickly calmed down and said, "Our family can still afford to support one person. Don't worry."
Drake laughed. "Alright, alright, it was my mistake. But I was trying to help you. If you're too much of a coward, fine. But don't you think you owe me an apology after saying what you did?"
Dante was getting angry. He hadn't argued too much because he was considerate of his father and mother-in-law, but Drake was pushing his luck.
At that moment, the door to the private room was suddenly kicked open from the outside, and eight strong men stormed in.
Drake was furious and was about to curse, "Who the f***!"
Before he could finish, he was slapped hard across the face.
"You f***ing show off when you have money, but are you too broke to pay your debts?"
Drake saw who it was, and his legs immediately went weak. His arrogance vanished instantly, and he stammered, "Mr. J-J-Jake..."
"Son of a b****! In Norbia, no one dares to owe me money and not pay up!"
A burly man with a small ponytail and a face full of scars stepped forward and slapped Drake again.
Simone was terrified but tried to act tough, saying, "Don't mess around! Drake is not someone you can push around!"
Jake took a step forward. He approached Simone, grabbed some meat, took two bites, and tossed it onto the table, making the dishes clatter.
"What the hell is this?" He spat a mouthful of greasy meat onto Simone's face and sneered, "Ryan Hauk lent him 300,000 dollars at bank interest rates out of respect, and he didn't pay it back. Instead of telling him to return the money, you're saying he's not to be messed with?"
"Trying to scare me, huh?" Jake's scarred face twitched, and he slapped Simone twice.
"Not to be messed with? Damn it, I'll beat you too! Let's see if Drake dares to make a sound!"
Drake was completely frozen, not even daring to say a word.
Simone burst into tears.
Everyone else was just ordinary folks. They had never seen something like this before.
They all sat stiffly in their seats, too scared to move.
Dante had no intention of speaking up. This was a proper bank-interest loan. If Drake borrowed the money and refused to pay it back, he deserved to be beaten.
Karina was pale with fear.
Raymond frowned and couldn't help but say, "If you're here to collect a debt, just collect it. No need to get violent."
Jake grabbed a wine bottle and smashed it toward Raymond. "Old man, you dare to talk back!"
Seeing the bottle flying toward Raymond, Grace's face turned pale with fear, and everyone else held their breath.
But at the last moment, a fair-skinned hand caught the bottle mid-air.
Dante held the bottle, his gaze cold. He didn't care if others got bullied but wouldn't allow Raymond to be harmed.
"Take this bottle, smash it on your head, and get out! That's the only way I'll forgive you," Dante said calmly, placing the bottle in front of Jake.
Everyone was stunned.
Was this idiot unaware of how dangerous the world was?
To offend a hooligan, Dante was either fearless or just stupid.
He was still a lunatic.
Jake burst out laughing. "Do you even know who I am, talking big like that?"
"I don't." Dante shook his head.
"I'm one of Mr. Hauk's men!" Jake's face twisted with ferocity and pride as if he had just mentioned someone incredibly important.
"Who's Mr. Hauk?" Dante genuinely had no idea.
Jake laughed again. Dante didn't even know Ryan. He was just a nobody daring to act tough.
Drake was trembling with fear. "Dante, don't mess around! Nearly 90% of the construction business in Norbia is controlled by Mr. Hauk."
Now, everyone understood.
The construction business is known for being lucrative, competitive, and dangerous. To dominate it, one had to be a big shot who operated both in the shadows and in the open.
Even Raymond shook his head at Dante.
Seeing that everyone was afraid, Jake grinned smugly. He pointed at Raymond and then at Grace.
"Scared now? Then kneel to me! If you don't, I'll cripple this old man and have some fun with the little beauty. You won't even be able to say a word!"
A fierce anger surged in Dante's eyes. Back when his parents died tragically, he had been studying in another city, only able to hear the news and grieve helplessly.
For three years, he had trained bitterly. He wanted to protect those he cared about and live without fear.
Dante wouldn't back down.
Without another word, he stood up, grabbed the wine bottle, and lunged forward.
The next second, the bottle shattered on Jake's head.
Blood dripped down his scarred face.
Dante didn't stop. Holding the broken bottle, he turned it around and aimed for Jake's chest.
The sudden ferocity startled Jake.
The ruthless fear the reckless.
He had never seen anyone this reckless before and quickly stumbled backward.
His henchmen immediately rushed forward.
But Dante was like a madman, stabbing them with the broken bottle.
In no time, his men were on the ground, each with a bleeding wound.
Everyone gasped.
Dante didn't pause, quickly closing in on Jake, grabbing his collar, and pressing the bloodied bottle shard against his face.
"Say what you just said again!"
Jake felt the sharp glass cutting into his skin and panicked. The lunatic dared to kill him.
"Kid, Mr. Hauk..." He started to threaten but stopped when he felt the glass dig deeper.
"I don't care how powerful Ryan is. Today, even if he were here, he'd have to apologize to my father-in-law and wife! Let alone a lackey like you!"
Dante's murderous aura was overwhelming.
Jake was terrified, recalling Dante as a ruthless killer.
"I apologize! I apologize! Sir, please spare me! I was talking nonsense. Please just let me go."
Raymond and Karina exchanged glances. They never expected Dante to be this bold after recovering.
Seeing Dante protecting them would be a lie to say they were not touched.
When Simone was beaten just now, Drake didn't even dare to make a sound.
Raymond quickly stepped forward and pulled Dante back. "Dante, forget it. Don't stoop to their level."
Dante loosened his grip, and Jake scrambled up and ran toward the door.
"Take these dogs with you!" Dante shouted angrily.
The lackeys also helped each other up and fled.
In an instant, only family and friends remained in the private room.
Everyone stared at Dante in shock. For a moment, no one dared to speak.
