Abel's intentions were clear—he was going to fight for the position of heir.
The crowd was stunned for a moment before bursting into laughter.
To them, Abel's words were nothing more than a joke.
They had all witnessed it with their own eyes—his energy center was destroyed, his martial meridians shattered, and had become a cripple.
Yet here he was, making bold claims. Where did he get the confidence?
Only one person in the hall did not laugh—the Supreme Elder.
His expression was solemn, lost in thought.
"Then wait until the new heir is officially named," Trey sneered. "You can challenge him then."
With that, he waved his hand, signaling Abel to leave.
A glint of murderous intent flashed in Trey's eyes as Abel turned to go.
Abel should have taken the first opportunity to flee the Letherdale Family. Instead, he came back talking about family rules, openly defying Trey, and even daring to challenge George. Did he not understand what it meant to court death?
"You don't want to leave the Letherdale Family?"
"Fine. Then I'll ensure you stay in the family's graveyard forever." Trey thought.
At that moment, Trey had decided to kill Abel. Tonight, he would send someone to finish him off.
A young man stormed in from outside, disrupting Trey's plans.
It was his son—George.
George was seething with rage, his aura at the peak of the ninth stage of the Body Refining Realm. Without a word, he threw a punch at Abel.
The punch's force tore through the air, heavy as a mountain. If it landed, Abel would be dead on the spot.
Although the attack was sudden, everyone present was an expert. They could have stopped George if they wanted to.
But no one moved.
Even the Supreme Elder watched in silence.
"Perfect timing, George!"
Abel growled, his aura surging as he met George's punch head-on.
Boom!
A deafening explosion echoed through the hall as the two fists collided.
Both Abel and George staggered back three steps.
The entire hall fell into stunned silence.
"Can someone tell me how this cripple still has cultivation?"
"Abel's energy center and martial meridians were destroyed. How does he still have the strength of a fifth-stage Body Refining Realm cultivator?"
"This is insane! Abel is only at the fifth stage, while George is at the peak of the ninth stage. The difference in power is massive! Abel shouldn't have been able to take that punch. And yet they're evenly matched? Impossible!"
Shocked voices filled the meeting hall.
Abel was once again the center of attention.
Even George looked at him in disbelief, a trace of wariness in his eyes.
Trey, on the other hand, was utterly dumbfounded. He stared long before snapping back to reality and immediately questioning his son. "George, what the hell is going on?"
"This bastard broke Rowan's hands for no reason. I was furious and came to settle the score!"
George had secretly sent Rowan on a task without consulting Trey beforehand. Now, feeling guilty, he chose to twist the truth and blame Abel.
"George, don't twist the facts and play the victim!"
Abel's tone was cold, his expression unreadable. "You sent Rowan to kill me. Do you dare admit it?"
"I didn't!"
"Then let's bring Rowan here and see what he says."
"He's unconscious. How do you expect him to testify?"
"Then we'll ask Anna—she witnessed everything."
George's eyes flickered as he tried to devise another excuse, but Trey cut him off.
"Abel, attacking a family member without cause is a serious offense. You must be punished under family law—your cultivation will be abolished and expelled from the Letherdale Family!"
Trey had already pieced together what had happened.
He knew George's nature all too well.
But he had no intention of letting this situation drag out—he wanted Abel gone, once and for all.
"Wait. I need to clarify something first."
The hall fell silent again as Supreme Elder's authoritative voice rang out. "Abel, the city lord destroyed your cultivation. Where did your strength come from?"
"Because he didn't finish the job."
Abel responded calmly, having already prepared this excuse.
"The city lord held back?" Supreme Elder's pupils contracted slightly.
The people around them began murmuring in discussion, quickly accepting the Supreme Elder's theory.
After all, there was no other reasonable explanation for Abel's return to power.
Abel remained silent, letting them believe what they wanted.
If they wanted to overthink it, that was fine by him.
"If the city lord spared you, that means he still has some respect for the Letherdale Family," Supreme Elder mused. "At least we don't have to worry about him holding this against us."
For the first time, a rare smile appeared on his face. Then, he turned back to Abel.
"Your cultivation has dropped to the fifth stage of the Body Refining Realm?"
Abel nodded.
"Can you continue training?"
"Yes."
At that moment, many people's expressions shifted.
Losing strength wasn't the worst thing—what mattered was whether he could regain it. If Abel could still cultivate, then he had potential.
Trey, however, felt uneasy. He sensed that things were taking a turn he didn't like.
His fears were confirmed when Supreme Elder made a suggestion that left him deeply displeased.
"Since Abel still has his cultivation, the Letherdale Family cannot simply cast him aside. He deserves a chance."
"I propose that in seven days, we hold a tournament. Whoever wins shall take the position of heir!"
Most of the elders immediately voiced their support.
After all, Abel was four stages below George, yet he had fought him to a draw. What did that mean?
It meant Abel was still a genius.
And the Letherdale Family had always favored genius.
The decision was made. Trey was furious but powerless to change it.
With the Supreme Elder's authority, he couldn't simply manipulate everything as he pleased.
"Until the tournament, Abel will be under my protection," Supreme Elder added calmly.
The underlying message was clear, and everyone understood—it was a warning to Trey.
Trey let out a cold snort and left with George.
Back in his room, Abel found Anna had already prepared a meal.
His stomach growled, so he wasted no time devouring everything.
After eating, he bathed, changed into clean clothes, and finally had a moment to think.
Supreme Elder was a shrewd man. Though he had offered protection, it was only for seven days. It was a test to see how fast Abel could progress.
If he failed to reclaim the heir's position in the tournament, the Supreme Elder would no longer support him.
The tournament would be open to all young warriors of the Letherdale Family.
At the peak of the ninth stage of the Body Refining Realm, George was currently the strongest among them—and Abel's only opponent.
If Abel could advance just one more stage, he would have the power to defeat George.
But there was a problem.
After regaining his strength, he had gone all out against George, causing his meridians to become chaotic. As a result, his Flame Dragon Meridian had entered a dormant state.
Without it, he couldn't train.
And there was no telling how long it would remain inactive.
Growing anxious, Abel searched his fragmented memories, hoping for a solution.
There were only three complete recollections: alchemy, ancient talismans, and the Nine Dragons Unified Technique.
His fragmented memories had other pieces of knowledge but were all incomplete.
The power Abel inherited made him understand ancient talismans.
He needed only to glance at them to grasp their profound meanings.
The ancient talismans encompassed a vast amount of content, including individual talismans' uses, crafting techniques, and methods for combining them.
The last section of the ancient talismans was related to the dragon meridian. It could resolve any issues.
Finally, Abel found the answer—the Awakening Pill.
This pill could awaken his Flame Dragon Meridian.
But it was a rare pill, not something available on the market. He would have to refine it himself.
The Awakening Pill was a first-grade pill. The Letherdale family had all the ingredients it needed except the Awakening Dragonroot.
Without hesitation, Abel got up and headed straight for the Elixir Pavilion.
