"Applied for a security guard job but didn't pass."
Maxwell didn't think too much about it and responded.
"The security department, huh? I'm unfamiliar with that area, so I can't intervene. How about you work in my department as a clerk? The job is easy, just making tea and delivering things to fairies."
Taylor slightly furrowed her delicate brows, thought momentarily, and then spoke.
Upon hearing the first part of the conversation, the people around them sighed in relief. Fortunately, no connections were being used. That's what they thought at first. But their expressions stiffened when they heard the latter part of her sentence. So, after all, connections were still being used.
"Fairies?"
Maxwell frowned upon hearing the term. Were there fairies on Earth too? Given his limited spiritual energy, he wasn't confident dealing with fairies. However, he might still stand a chance if their level was low.
"Oh, I just mean female employees. My entire department is made up of women. You're lucky! Come with me."
Unaware of what was going through Maxwell's mind, Taylor curled her finger at him and walked ahead in high heels. Only then did Maxwell snap back to reality, a hint of embarrassment flashing in his eyes.
He had indeed been away from Earth for too long. He had even forgotten the modern meaning of the word "fairy." He had almost overreacted just now, which would have been embarrassing.
Meanwhile, the other candidates watching their interaction stared at Maxwell's departing figure with envy. They had heard correctly. Taylor said her department was made up of female employees.
Everyone knew that aside from its impressive scale and financial resources, Strand Group was most famous for its female employees, each elegant, beautiful, and extraordinary.
If not for that, why else would the men go to such lengths to secure a mere security guard position? In any other company, they could easily have landed managerial roles.
Now, watching Maxwell walk away, their hearts were filled with jealousy. Maxwell secured a job at Strand Group and was placed in a department full of women. Who wouldn't want such treatment?
Meanwhile, Taylor, walking ahead, suddenly realized something. Her face turned pale, fluctuating between expressions of unease. Indeed, her department was exclusively female. She had established this rule with the CEO's approval, thanks to their close relationship and her exceptional capabilities.
Everyone in the department knew about this rule. But now, for Maxwell, she had broken it. How was she supposed to explain this to her colleagues?
For a moment, Taylor felt troubled. She didn't even understand why she had impulsively offered Maxwell a position in her department.
Maybe it was because he was different, unlike other men who always had a trace of desire in their eyes when they looked at her.
After thinking it over, Taylor could only conclude that this must be the reason.
"This is our department. Here are some important notes. You'll start working tomorrow since I have other things to handle today. I'll introduce you to the team then."
Taylor led Maxwell to the department entrance, pointed out the location, handed him some documents, and prepared to send him off.
After all, bringing a male employee into an all-female department was a big deal. She needed to inform her colleagues in advance. She had promised them that no men would be hired, and now she was breaking that promise.
On the way here, she had considered transferring Maxwell to another department. But no matter how she thought about it, she couldn't bring herself to say the words. So for now, she decided to delay the matter.
"Alright."
Maxwell took the documents, thanked Taylor, and turned to leave. Finding a job on the first day had been beyond his expectations, but at least now he didn't have to wander aimlessly.
Before leaving, he glanced into the office and saw a space filled with beautiful women. Indeed, it was an all-female department.
Feeling pleased about securing a job, Maxwell checked the time and saw it was still early. He decided to take a stroll around the city. He had been recovering from injuries, and after healing, he married Isabella and settled down. He had hardly explored the city at all.
Though this wasn't his homeland, it still resembled it closely. He figured he might as well get familiar with the place, as if reconnecting with his long-lost home.
With that thought, Maxwell stepped into the bustling streets. Watching the endless stream of pedestrians, he smiled. A sudden realization surged within him without realizing it, causing a wisp of immortal energy to radiate from his body slowly.
Sensing the spiritual energy, the surrounding people instinctively felt drawn toward him. Noticing the strange behavior of those nearby, Maxwell quickly snapped out of it and suppressed his immortal energy.
People around him also shook off their momentary daze. After exchanging puzzled glances, they quickly dispersed. However, a few young women blushed, their eyes lingering on Maxwell.
Standing near him had felt so warm and comfortable, an addictive sensation they couldn't quite describe. Some wanted to approach him and ask for his contact information, but strangely, standing near him made them feel unworthy.
Ignoring them, Maxwell hastened his steps. Immortal energy was something unheard of in this world. Even inhaling a tiny bit of it could extend a mortal's lifespan. Naturally, its allure was irresistible.
"Sir, please wait a moment."
As Maxwell walked, he suddenly noticed an elderly man approaching from the opposite direction. The overwhelming fortune and virtue radiating from him immediately caught Maxwell's attention.
He paused, took a closer look, and then called out. The two young men accompanying the old man immediately shot him icy stares.
"Oh? Young man, why are you stopping me?"
The old man, however, showed no displeasure. He sized up Maxwell with a kind smile.
"Your forehead is darkened, and a red mark extends leftward. You are facing misfortune tomorrow. If you stay indoors, you should remain safe."
Maxwell observed the old man's facial features and spoke solemnly. At his cultivation level, his Celestial Eye had long since opened. He could glimpse a person's destiny even with just a trace of spiritual energy.
However, Maxwell had deliberately restricted this ability, refraining from peering into others' fates at will. He only noticed this old man because his abundant virtue and fortune triggered a reaction in the Celestial Eye.
Calling out to the old man wasn't a coincidence. His immense Blessed Aureate Glow had led their paths to cross, allowing Maxwell to help avert his impending disaster.
Gods protected a person with mighty fortune. Sensing the old man's impending crisis, fate had arranged for Maxwell to intervene. Having once been an Immortal Emperor, Maxwell understood these things well.
If he could save this old man, there would be benefits in store for him. In the past, he wouldn't have cared. But now, in his current state, he needed those benefits.
"Misfortune? Why not say a bloodshed? Looks like you're the one facing a bloodshed today!"
One of the young men behind the old man sneered. With heavy steps, he approached Maxwell, clenching his fists until they cracked.
From his demeanor, it was clear. He intended to beat Maxwell up.
"Stand down! Do not be rude!"
The old man frowned and reprimanded him. The young man hesitated, unwilling, but dared not disobey the elder's authority. Reluctantly, he stepped back.
Still, his gaze remained hostile. He gestured at Maxwell threateningly, warning him to be careful.
"Young man, thank you for your warning. But these old bones of mine are still strong. I won't be running into any trouble."
The old man chuckled. To hear such words from an ordinary young man, there was no reason to believe them.
