The fork stabbed into Jones' eye socket, causing blood to gush out.
Jones let out a horrific scream, staggering backward instinctively.
Calvin didn't back down. Like a man possessed, he lunged over the table, pinning Jones to the ground, and began headbutting him furiously.
Jones' cronies stood around them, completely stunned.
Calvin was fighting like a man possessed.
His head was covered in blood, yet he seemed unfazed, determined to smash Jones' skull.
Snapping out of their shock, one of the cronies rushed forward and punched Calvin in the head. "Let go of Jones, you bastard!"
The others joined in, attacking Calvin from every angle.
However, Calvin seemed impervious to pain, gripping Jones tightly and ignoring the punching from the others.
At that moment, Calvin had only one thought: even if he died, he was taking Jones with him.
Jones' eyes rolled back as he was choked, prompting one of the cronies to grab a chair, ready to smash it over Calvin.
Luckily, several guards rushed in and broke up the fight.
Some tried to restrain Calvin, but in his frenzied state, he was powerful.
Three guards struggled to hold him down.
More guards arrived, and together, they managed to pin Calvin down.
Calvin took advantage of a moment, biting off one of Jones' ears.
He chewed and swallowed the ear, leaving everyone shivering in fear.
Jones' cronies were too terrified to assist.
The head guard hurried over, his face pale with anger. He pointed at Calvin, scolding, "What are you doing?"
"Do you realize causing trouble in prison is a serious offense..."
Before the guard could finish, Calvin suddenly broke free from the guards, dashing toward a distant wall.
The guards were stunned. Calvin was trying to end his life.
Just as Calvin was about to crash headlong into the wall, an elderly man leaped forward and tackled him to the ground.
The guards finally regained their senses, rushing in to hold him down.
Seeing Calvin's suicidal intent, the head guard refrained from further reprimands, instructing the guards to keep him restrained.
Calvin was then taken to the infirmary for temporary treatment.
Given his strong suicidal tendencies, he was placed in a straitjacket used for psychiatric patients, tied to the bed.
Yet, Calvin didn't surrender to his situation. Lying in bed, he refused to eat and drink.
The death of his parents had left him in utter despair, wishing only for death.
In the infirmary, they could only administer nutrient injections to sustain him.
As days passed, Calvin grew thinner, and his life hung by a thread.
One day, during the routine infirmary cleaning, an old man entered.
It was the elderly inmate who had saved Calvin earlier.
About sixty years old, he tidied up the room and approached the bed, seizing the moment when the guards were elsewhere.
Looking at the soulless Calvin, the old man sighed, "Young man, you can't just die like this."
Calvin seemed not to hear, his eyes fixed on the ceiling.
The old man continued, "I'm not here to tell you to let it go or to be magnanimous."
"I just want to say, if you die like this, no one will avenge your parents."
This remark finally brought a glimmer to Calvin's eyes.
He glanced at the old man but remained silent.
As he cleaned, the old man said, "Do you think your parents died in a car accident?"
"Let me tell you the truth. They were murdered."
Calvin's face changed drastically, and he finally spoke, "What... what did you say?"
"How do you know?"
The old man chuckled, "I guessed."
Calvin frowned. "Guessed?"
The old man smiled, "What, you think I'm pulling your leg?"
"Young man, I've lived a long life and seen many people."
"The one thing I know is that unnatural events are always suspicious."
Calvin asked, "What... what seems off?"
The old man set down the mop and looked at Calvin. "Let me ask you, did you kill the campus beauty?"
Calvin shook his head. "No!"
The old man shrugged. "Exactly."
"You didn't kill her, yet there's evidence and testimony convicting you. What does that tell you?"
"It means someone framed you."
"Someone killed the campus beauty and pinned it on you."
"And your parents, dying in a car accident on their way to appeal, that only means they found some crucial evidence and were silenced."
Calvin took a deep breath, realizing things he hadn't considered before.
His parents were murdered. This thought pained him deeply, filling his eyes with a fierce light.
Seeing the determination in Calvin's eyes, the old man nodded approvingly.
"So, what now? Do you want to die or live and avenge your parents?" he asked with a smile.
Calvin gritted his teeth but then slumped. "In my current state, how can I avenge them?"
The old man smiled gently. "If you truly want revenge, I can help you."
Calvin was excited. "Re... really?"
The old man nodded calmly. "Yes."
"But first, you must prove to me that you truly have the will to avenge them."
Calvin paused. "How... how do I prove it?"
The old man replied, "Start eating today. You'll be sent back to your cell in a few days."
"Jones has already declared he'll kill you."
"If you can survive, I'll help you."
Calvin's face grew serious. Jones had quite a few men in the prison.
If he truly wanted Calvin dead, how could he survive?
Sensing Calvin's doubts, the old man said slowly, "How you survive is up to you."
"The world is harsh. If you can't even save yourself, you can't avenge anyone."
Calvin took a deep breath, determined. "I will survive."
The old man smiled faintly, tossing a book onto Calvin's bed. "If you want a better chance, read this. It might help."
Calvin glanced at it. It was a typical medical book from the infirmary, the type doctors often used.
"Why read this?" Calvin asked.
The old man replied, "To learn which body parts are weakest, where to strike to kill quickly."
"These are the skills of a killer."
Calvin realized the intent, gripping the book tightly, nodding with determination.
He would clear his parents' name and his own.
