"Divorce Papers?" Keenan Jauncy stood at Seaview City's Second Prison gate.
He held a weathered duffel bag and a divorce contract.
Shock was written all over his face.
He couldn't believe it—he had just been released from prison, and his wife was asking for a divorce.
The duffel bag slipped from his fingers and thudded to the ground. The excitement from earlier drained from his face, replaced by hollow despair.
He slowly lifted his gaze to the woman standing before him.
Georgia Hayes stood tall in a burgundy dress, elegant and untouchable. Her long, fair legs only added to her air of superiority.
Seeing her stare at him like he was nothing, something inside Keenan snapped. "Why? I took the fall for you!"
Georgia crossed her arms and sneered. "Do you even realize the gap between us now? While you were locked up for five years, I turned Prosperous Group into a billion-dollar company. I'm now one of the most admired female CEOs in Seaview City."
Her eyes flicked over his outfit with disdain. "Look at you, wearing cheap market clothes. You look like a homeless man. Let's be real. You're not good enough for me anymore."
Keenan listened in silence, a bitter chill settling in his heart.
Five years ago, he took the blame and went to prison in Georgia's place.
To ensure she was financially secure, he even transferred all his shares in Prosperous Group to her name.
He had never imagined that she would repay his sacrifice with a divorce.
Keenan scoffed. "Did you decide to leave me the moment I went to jail?"
"Of course," Georgia replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"From that day onward, we were in different worlds. I became the CEO of a major company, and you're just a penniless ex-con!"
She chuckled, shaking her head. "You didn't seriously think I'd wait five years for you, and we could just pick up where we left, right? Stop dreaming! Any men chasing me now are a hundred times better than you. You're nothing but a burden to me now."
Georgia's eyes were filled with disdain, like she was staring at garbage.
Keenan's face darkened with disappointment.
"I handed you the company so you could live comfortably. And now you think I'm not good enough because I have no money?"
During all those years in prison, he devoted himself to studying medicine and martial arts with his mentor, looking forward to reuniting with Georgia and improving her life.
Over the years, countless wealthy elites have sought his expertise, many of whom were terminally ill and willing to give anything for a chance to live.
Keenan would already be a billionaire if it hadn't been for his mentor's rule forbidding him from accepting payment before his release.
On top of that, he was now the famed Dr. Jauncy, a legend in the medical field.
Prosperous Group had grown to what it was because of Keenan's powerful connections behind bars.
Many business magnates who trusted him had invested purely on his word.
Yet, all his wife wanted was a divorce.
Georgia rolled her eyes. "I don't want people mocking me for having a jailbird husband. It would ruin me and the company's reputation. Cutting ties with you is the smart move."
She didn't even bother to mask the contempt in her tone and wanted a clear cut from him.
Georgia pulled out a card and shoved it toward Keenan.
"There's ten thousand dollars in here. Consider it compensation for the past five years. From now on, we owe each other nothing."
"Ten thousand?" Keenan stared at the card in disbelief, his heart sinking into ashes.
Thinking of how he had served five years in prison for such a heartless woman, humiliation burned inside him.
"Owe each other nothing, huh? Haha!" Keenan laughed bitterly.
He tossed the card to the ground and looked her dead in the eye.
"Fine. Let's divorce. But I don't need a cent of your money."
Georgia raised an eyebrow, a little surprised by how fast he agreed.
She pointed to the contract in his hand and said, "Then sign the papers."
Keenan grabbed the pen, signed his name without hesitation, and tossed it back at her.
He smirked and said, "Proud of your wealth and status, huh? What if I told you I can take it all away instantly?"
"Stop bluffing! If you can't find work and end up begging on the street, don't come crying to me." Georgia laughed, unimpressed.
Then, she checked the contract before tucking it into her bag.
Keenan didn't argue. He dialed a number on his phone.
"Mr. Jauncy, how can I assist you?" a respectful voice answered.
"Mr. Parkinson, I want Prosperous Group to go bankrupt immediately," Keenan instructed and hung up.
Georgia laughed like she'd just heard the most ridiculous joke ever. "Haha! Seriously, Keenan? Are you faking a phone call to save some of your pride? How pathetic!"
Ring!
Suddenly, her phone buzzed.
When she glanced at the screen and saw "Marcus Parkinson," her blood ran cold.
Marcus Parkinson was the CEO of Zenith Group, the leading investment firm in the city.
Thanks to their constant funding, Prosperous Group had grown so much over the years.
Georgia scrambled to answer, switching to her sweetest voice. "Mr. Parkinson, what can I do for—"
A cold, hoarse voice cut her off.
"Georgia, I'm calling to inform you that we'll withdraw all our investments from Prosperous Group. Also, you'll be blacklisted across the industry."
