Linda and Theodore had left. After absorbing the unfamiliar memories, Hendrix felt frustration, disdain, and admiration.
He never imagined he would be reborn as such an outrageous person.
Hendrix sighed, shaking his head. Once a formidable warrior, he was reborn as a loser, sure to be mocked by others. But so what? Getting a second chance at life was already a great blessing.
"Car crash? Cliff fall?" Hendrix furrowed his brow, thinking, "The accident looks suspicious. It seems someone wanted Hendrix dead. Or rather, they wanted me dead."
The original Hendrix was gone, and he took over. Since someone wanted him dead, he wouldn't let them get away with it.
After all, he couldn't tell others he was from another time.
To ensure his survival, Hendrix needed to identify those who wished him harm. He disliked the feeling of enemies lurking in the shadows.
"In Hendrix's memories, although Linda despised him, she had no intention to kill. However, when I saw his cousin, Theodore, earlier, there was a flicker of coldness in his eyes. That's suspicious. I should begin my investigation with him." Hendrix's eyes glinted with determination.
Once he had fully absorbed the memories, Hendrix planned his new life.
Naturally, enhancing his strength was paramount.
In his previous life, he was the top expert in the special forces. However, mastering martial arts was not merely about merging soul memories. Even the most exquisite martial arts required inner strength, which Hendrix had to cultivate.
The Ninefold Heavenly Mantra was Hendrix's martial art from his past life, the foundation of his prowess as the top expert. It was a martial art that could absorb soul power and transform it into inner strength.
This was why he joined the special forces in his previous life. He wanted to cultivate the Ninefold Heavenly Mantra, grow stronger, fight, gather soul power, and engage in endless battles.
Though his mind held many other martial arts, he felt he should continue with the Ninefold Heavenly Mantra.
Closing his eyes once more, Hendrix resumed practicing the Ninefold Heavenly Mantra. Yet, he couldn't gather any true energy.
The bustling and noisy hospital was unsuitable for cultivation, so Hendrix was discharged at his insistence. Only Theodore came on the day of his discharge. Linda did not.
"Linda had some business at the company, so that she couldn't make it," Theodore explained, though he wouldn't admit that it wasn't business that kept Linda away, but her unwillingness to come.
Hendrix chuckled nonchalantly. Linda might be his wife, but she held deep-seated prejudices against him. Her previous visit was already more than enough courtesy.
"Let's go!"
...
Cloud Crane Gardens was so exclusive that even wealth couldn't guarantee entry. Those who pass through the gates of Cloud Crane Gardens influence the entire city.
This demonstrated the exclusivity of the place.
Soon, Hendrix and Theodore entered one of the priceless villas within Cloud Crane Gardens.
"Good day, Mr. Hendrix," the servants greeted Hendrix reluctantly as he stepped out of the car.
Hendrix nodded slightly, ignoring the servants and heading straight into the hall. As he entered, he heard the servants' mocking laughter.
He sighed. Even the servants didn't respect him. He had truly failed as the young master.
"Hendrix, Briar called earlier, asking when you'd like to get together," Theodore reported.
Briar was the eldest son of the Lawrence family. At his invitation, Hendrix went racing a month ago, which led to a car crash when his brakes failed and he plunged off a cliff.
Hendrix's eyes flashed with insight.
The previous Hendrix was timid and cautious. He would unlikely race cars. And now, fresh out of the hospital, Briar was inviting him again. It was a trap.
What role did Theodore play? Hendrix remembered the cold glint in Theodore's eyes when he first awoke, and he believed Theodore was involved in the accident.
Should he go or not?
Not going wouldn't confirm his suspicions. Going meant walking into a trap.
Dealing with these spoiled brats was well within his abilities—why not go? It would help confirm whether Theodore and Briar were involved and help him integrate into his new identity.
After careful consideration, Hendrix was sure this was a trap for him. However, he was calm. With his knowledge and experience, dealing with a few spoiled brats was a walk in the park.
With this in mind, Hendrix turned to Theodore. "Theodore, you're the clever one. What's your opinion? Should I go or not?"
It was a test. Hendrix was probing Theodore.
Theodore would never suspect his seemingly foolish cousin was testing him.
"Why not go, Hendrix? Last time, Briar and his friends invited you to race, which led to your accident. This time, we should give them a good thrashing," Theodore said, punching the air.
"You're right. It's time to teach them a lesson!"
A cold glint flashed in Hendrix's eyes, confirming his suspicion that Briar's invitation was linked to Theodore.
"Theodore, where do you think we should meet them?" Hendrix asked.
"The Emperor's Pavilion. It's the best place in Vela City," Theodore replied without hesitation.
"Very well, tell Briar we'll meet at the Emperor's Pavilion in a few days." Hendrix nodded, the chill in his eyes intensifying, further affirming his suspicions.
This was yet another test for Theodore.
If Theodore were involved, he would have planned the meeting location.
To no surprise, Theodore had already chosen the place.
