After Cecelia left, Terry entered the room, staring at the unconscious Jane on the bed. "Maybe marrying into the family isn't that bad after all," he murmured softly.
Cecelia's kindness reminded Terry of his late mother. Unlike Harley, his mother, Jacqueline Lyson, had always been very caring.
He gently held Jane's hand to feel her pulse. After a moment, his brow furrowed. "Hmm, could this be..."
After a closer examination, his eyes lit up with delight. "It's truly the Phoenix Vessel. My luck is extraordinary."
He was overjoyed, recalling his master's words that individuals with special constitutions were rare. Yet here he was, having just encountered one-and coincidentally married her.
Suppressing his excitement, he focused on diagnosing the cause of Jane's coma. A moment later, his eyebrow arched. "Ah, it seems my wife is not as simple as she seems."
With a single hand gesture, threads of true energy flowed from his fingertips, transforming into needles in mid-air. If any knowledgeable person witnessed this scene, they would be utterly astonished by these energy-crafted needles.
After all, such techniques were only described in ancient texts.
Uncovering the quilt, he revealed a sensual, graceful figure, causing Terry's gaze to heat up.
After three years in prison with no contact with women, it was inevitable that his heart raced at the sight. Taking a deep breath to quell his rising emotions, he concentrated on manipulating the needles.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
His fingers danced lightly as nine needles pierced various acupuncture points on Jane's body.
The needles trembled slightly, then gradually turned from transparent to crimson. Within minutes, they became as red as blood.
With a wave of his hand, Terry sent those needles soaring, transforming them into nine drops of blood-red liquid above a nearby trash can, releasing a faint aroma.
Grasping Jane's wrist again, he detected residual toxins. He infused her with some true energy to restore her vitality, intending to continue the treatment.
Just then, the door burst open, and Martha, the maid, entered with a basin of hot water. She was startled by the scene. "W-What are you doing to Ms. Jane?"
Terry frowned and withdrew his hand, about to explain, but Martha had already fled the room. She quickly returned with Silas and Cecelia.
"You beast, what are you trying to do to Jane?" Silas yelled as soon as he stormed in.
Cecelia rushed to check Jane's condition and was relieved to find nothing wrong, then turned to Terry. "Terry, what were you doing just now?"
Silas, still enraged, barked, "Do we even need to ask? This beast must be up to no good with Jane. Having been in prison, I've said he's no good, but you wouldn't listen."
It wasn't surprising that he misunderstood. Terry had already left a poor impression, and with what Martha witnessed, suspicion was inevitable. The thought of him attempting anything with his comatose daughter made Silas' blood boil.
"Why are you jumping to conclusions? We haven't even figured out what's going on," Cecelia chided her husband before turning to Terry.
Terry didn't hide the truth. "I was treating her."
Cecelia was surprised. "You know how to practice medicine?"
Terry nodded. "I know a thing or two."
Silas let out an angry laugh. "Nonsense. You went to prison before finishing middle school. Where would you learn medicine? From the criminals inside?"
Terry didn't bother to elaborate. "I was indeed treating her. Believe it or not."
Silas sneered. "Really? Then, can you tell us Jane's condition?"
"She's poisoned."
Silas burst into laughter, then shouted, "What's that got to do with poisoning? Jane was in a car accident. Her consciousness fell into a slumber, turning her into a vegetable."
Terry smirked. Jane's brain had indeed suffered damage, but it wasn't enough to cause her prolonged coma.
The real culprit was the Netherlily Poison in her system. Colorless, odorless, it merged with the blood and nerves, making it extremely difficult to detect.
This was why, despite many renowned doctors visiting the Jackman family over the past year, none could awaken Jane. How could they cure her without knowing the cause?
He didn't bother explaining further, knowing they wouldn't believe him anyway.
Cecelia was about to speak when Linus rushed in. "Sir, Madam, Mdm. Gina and Ms. Vivian have arrived."
No sooner had he finished speaking than two figures entered. They were Silas' sister-in-law, Gina Casson, and her daughter, Vivian Jackman.
"Silas, I heard you found a Yale family member to bring Jane good fortune. Where is he? Let me see," Gina said, casting a sideways glance.
"Mom, what Yale family member? I heard he's just an illegitimate child, and he's been in prison," Vivian chimed in, their words causing Silas and Cecelia's faces to darken.
Silas glared at Cecelia. "This is all your doing."
Cecelia's expression soured. "Gina, my son-in-law's business is none of your concern."
Gina smiled sweetly. "Cecelia, that's not right. I'm Jane's aunt, and it's only right that I show some concern. Even though Jane's a vegetable, you can't just pick any riff-raff, as if no one wants her."
Her words were sharp as a knife.
Cecelia trembled with rage, but before she could retort, Gina continued. "An ex-con is full of bad luck. If it rubs off on Jane, it'll be terrible. What if instead of bringing fortune, it brings disaster?"
She then turned to Silas, clicking her tongue. "Silas, shouldn't you keep Cecelia in check? If disaster truly strikes, Jane might never wake up."
Cecelia's voice sharpened. "Gina, how dare you curse my daughter?"
Gina remained indifferent. "Don't misunderstand, Cecelia. I'm just stating the facts."
Before Cecelia could respond, Terry interjected, "Hey, old hag, bringing good fortune isn't about someone's past; it's about their destiny and luck. When I was young, a fortune teller said I was a lucky star, bringing prosperity wherever I went. Maybe Jane will wake up soon."
Gina was momentarily stunned before she snapped back, furious. "You ex-con, who are you calling old?"
Terry grinned, his smile bright. "Old hag, with such a sharp tongue and so much powder on your face, you could probably paint a wall. Are you too embarrassed to show yourself because you're too old and ugly?"
Everyone in the room turned, astonished at Terry's sharp wit.
"You little beast, I'll tear your mouth apart," Gina shrieked, ready to claw at Terry's face, but Cecelia stepped in to stop her.
"Gina, aren't you ashamed to bicker with a junior? Aren't you afraid of becoming a laughingstock?" Cecelia teased, her words dripping with irony.
Gina trembled with fury, knowing she couldn't deal with Terry here. She suppressed her anger and sneered. "Cecelia, don't get too smug. I'm here to tell you that Dad has decided to appoint Abel as CEO, with the ceremony a month from now. The cooperation with the Hemingbrough family will be handled entirely by him. You'd better not interfere, or don't blame us for being impolite."
Cecelia's face turned sour.
When the Hemingbrough family planned to invest in Jenton a year ago, Walter Jackman promised that whoever secured the deal would become the Jackman Group's CEO.
Jane had worked tirelessly to make contact, but then the accident happened. While she lay in a coma, Abel's family not only took the credit but also oppressed Jane's loyal followers in the company, either winning them over or driving them out. Now, Silas and his family had little to no say in the Jackman Group.
"This is favoritism. We will never agree." Cecelia gritted her teeth, nearly cracking.
Gina smirked triumphantly. "What can you do if you disagree? Your once-prized daughter is now a vegetable. Who can your family rely on? Your useless husband? Or this ex-con son-in-law?"
The atmosphere grew tense as Cecelia's face darkened ominously. She wanted to retort but found herself at a loss for words.
"Ha, Cecelia, we are destined to lead the Jackman family. Stop daydreaming. You'd better behave, or you'll be crying later."
Just as Gina's smugness peaked, a sudden cough echoed from the bed. Everyone turned to see that Jane had opened her eyes.
