"Keanu, hey Keanu, are you okay? Hurry up, class is about to start. It's Icy Waller's class, so get up already." A worried voice rang out in Keanu Yale's ear, making him feel oddly out of place.
"What an idiot, probably too embarrassed to show his face, so he's covering it," another voice mocked, snapping Keanu back to his senses.
Keanu looked around, confused. There was not a single familiar face, just a room full of strangers.
When people saw the lost look on his face, everyone burst out laughing again, obviously at his expense. He didn't dare say a word in front of everyone laughing at him; he just stayed on guard in case someone tried something.
He glanced at the guy sitting next to him, the only one who hadn't laughed at him, and the one who'd just woken him up.
"Where am I? Who are you? Is this... some school?" Keanu blurted out, still in shock.
The class erupted in laughter again.
"Keanu, I think you've lost it. Did you really write a love letter to Bailey? You could get away with that when you were in the Yale family, but now you're not one of them anymore. You'd better watch yourself. Next class is with Ms. Waller. Don't let her catch you," his deskmate whispered, so quietly only Keanu could hear. Clearly, he was worried.
"Honestly, I can't remember much. My head was killing me earlier, and now a lot of stuff is just gone," Keanu said, feeling helpless.
His deskmate sighed, obviously not buying Keanu's sudden memory loss- he figured Keanu was just saving face. Keanu obviously still hadn't accepted that he wasn't part of the Yale family anymore.
Keanu's head throbbed. He remembered being with his master, Paige Lidyard, making a Restoration Pill, when the Westflow Sect attacked.
There were explosions and fighting everywhere. His master had used an Escape Talisman to save him, but how did he wind up here? Was this still Pentar?
But what about his master? She was only three years older than he was. The Westflow Sect only attacked because their young master wanted to marry her; she was too beautiful. She turned him down, and that was when the trouble started.
If she got caught by them, the consequences would be dire.
He panicked and suddenly jumped to his feet.
"What's going on? Don't you know the bell already rang?" A cold-looking woman carrying a stack of books walked up to the podium and shot the class a chilly look. The laughter died down immediately. Everyone knew this was Joy Waller, the teacher who couldn't stand students acting up, and if she singled you out, you were dead meat.
Keanu could tell something was off. He understood what everyone was saying, but it was definitely a different language. Was this not Pentar anymore?
He frowned, trying to figure things out, but his head hurt worse, and random memories started flooding in.
Keanu Yale was a third-generation young man of the Yale family. His dad, Luca Yale, died two years ago. As for his mom, he never had any memories of her. After his father died, Keanu got kicked out of the family because they said he wasn't really Luca's son.
To be exact, after his dad died, the family did another DNA test and decided Keanu wasn't really a Yale, so they threw him out. He had a younger sister, Emily Yale, and a younger brother, Castiel Yale —but they didn't share the same mother. The two were full siblings, while he was their half-brother.
Three years ago, perhaps feeling guilty toward Keanu, their father suggested a marriage alliance between the Yale family and the powerful Norrell family.
Luca likely knew his days were numbered and wanted to secure a strong backing for Keanu—hence, the proposal to the Norrells of the Capital City.
For the Norrell family, marrying into one of the top five families in Chiton was a golden opportunity. So they agreed readily, and Zoey Norrell, granddaughter of the patriarch, was betrothed to Keanu. Now, three years later, at only twenty-two, she had become the most stunning woman in the capital.
But Keanu had become the shame of the Yale family—and for a very simple reason. During a routine checkup at the hospital, he had been diagnosed with congenital impotence. In other words, he was incapable of consummating a marriage. Though the Yale family tried to keep it under wraps, the news somehow spread overnight. One of Chiton's five great families producing an impotent heir was an embarrassment they couldn't live down.
"Ah..." When he remembered that, Keanu suddenly yelled and shot to his feet, almost about to check his pants right then and there. Was he really reborn as someone else named Keanu and impotent, at that? He'd rather be dead.
"What's your name? And why are you yelling in class? See me in my office after," Joy snapped, clearly annoyed at being interrupted.
The rest of the class snickered quietly. Only Joy would call a college student to her office for something like this, but you couldn't skip it, since she held your grades in her hands.
Keanu slumped back into his seat, feeling defeated. He didn't really care about the family drama, but he figured the real reason he got kicked out was probably because of the impotence thing, not his bloodline. Besides, it was easy to fake the DNA results.
He couldn't care less about being disowned, but being impotent? No way. And what about Paige?
Now he got why everyone was laughing. The old Keanu, even after being kicked out of the family, still went after the hottest girl in class, Bailey.
She posted his love letter on the blackboard and stood on the podium, looking down at him. "Keanu, can you even sleep with me?"
No wonder the whole class cracked up. The original Keanu probably died from embarrassment.
After all, it was brutal to ask an impotent man that question.
Even though it wasn't him, Keanu's face still fell.
The man glanced over at Bailey. She was definitely curvy, but the way she acted just turned him off. He had no idea why the old Keanu was so into her.
But then it hit him: back when he was still a Yale, everyone-including Bailey-sucked up to him. After the impotence thing got out, he tried to get a girlfriend to save face, but the girl who used to chase after him turned on him. The shame must've been too much, so he passed out, and that was when Keanu took over.
He'd been reborn into a mess like this.
The man couldn't understand a word of Joy's lecture. Even if he could, he wouldn't have listened anyway. The whole impotence thing was just too much- what was the point of being reborn like this?
As he sorted out his memories, Keanu's face got darker. In addition to his impotence, the spiritual energy in this world was almost nonexistent—there was no way to cultivate it here. Was he really going to die of old age on this place called Earth?
School was the least of his worries. Figuring out his situation came first. The impotence thing was a stain on the Yale family name, and even though they'd kicked him out, who knew if someone might try to get rid of him just to save face? Was he even safe now?
As soon as class was over, Keanu didn't bother going to the teacher's office. He rushed straight out of the university, looking for a quiet place to check if he was really impotent.
Luckily, there were tons of back alleys around Ninos University. Keanu ducked into a deserted one and quickly pulled down his pants.
Sure enough, his junk was small, but instead of being bummed out, Keanu actually felt relieved. He wasn't really impotent; his size was actually too big, but a blocked meridian had kept it from developing properly, making it look like impotence. Back on Pentar, he'd been a top-notch doctor, so he recognized the problem right away.
Of course, with Earth's technology, there was no way to fix this kind of meridian blockage, but that was nothing for Keanu. He couldn't do it now, but once he reached Level Three Energy Cultivation, the blockage would clear up on its own.
But then he got discouraged again. There was barely any spiritual energy on Earth. Getting to Level Three Energy Cultivation here might as well be impossible. He could end up stuck like this forever.
Keanu sighed and was about to pull up his pants when a high-pitched scream nearly made him jump out of his skin.
"Pervert!" A woman's shrill voice echoed right in front of him.
Keanu had been so focused on checking himself out that he hadn't even noticed someone coming. It turned out the alley wasn't as private as he thought.
Keanu wasn't some flasher, especially not with his current "equipment"-so he yanked up his pants and got ready to bolt.
"Keanu? Is that you?" After screaming, the woman sounded genuinely surprised. She actually knew him.
