By the end of August, Jayton City was still sweltering with muggy heat. The main exit of the city's train station was packed wall-to-wall with people.
"Hey! Lady, stop shoving me!" Barely steady on his feet, Castiel Lawne was pushed out by the throng behind him, getting swept into the crush of people.
"That old man is such a cheapskate. He took all my severance pay from the last four years and even made me travel all the way down here just to treat someone. The worst part? He couldn't even spare a plane ticket!"
Standing amidst the flow of people, unable to move forward or back, Castiel muttered under his breath, with all kinds of strong body odors hitting him in the face.
Before this, no one would have imagined that the legendary captain of the Dragonsoul Squad would be jostling for space on a train.
After all, Castiel's severance pay easily amounted to an eight-figure sum. If Grissom hadn't insisted on sending him to Jayton City, Castiel would probably be relaxing on a beach now.
"I've avenged my brothers! The Dragonsoul Squad has disbanded, and it's time I lived my own life."
His eyes grew dim as he stood lost in thought amidst the crowd.
At sixteen, Castiel joined the Dragonsoul Squad, progressing from a field medic to squad captain. He'd been through so much and grown up fast. Even though he first hated Grissom for this arrangement, after all those battles, he realized he'd fallen in love with that life.
The Dragonsoul Squad was like a deadly blade, operating between all the countries around Chiton. Unfortunately, three months ago, during Castiel's final mission before retirement, the entire squad was ambushed by enemy forces and annihilated. Even though fewer than a hundred of them, they still took out nearly a thousand enemies. Ultimately, Castiel, who had medical skills, was the only one who made it out alive.

Lost in thought, Castiel was suddenly snapped back to reality by a young policewoman in a short skirt uniform, who ran straight toward the crowd and yelled anxiously, "There's danger! Everyone, get out now!"
Her words sent the crowd into a frenzy.
"What? Danger?"
All eyes turned to the young officer, and seeing the black pistol in her hand, someone in the crowd cried out in terror,
"Could it be a terrorist attack?"
"No way! A terrorist attack? Everyone, run!"
People grabbed their kids and started stampeding for the exit.
"What's going on?" Still dazed in the throng, Castiel felt a surge of panic pushing him from behind.
"Ah!"
A scream pierced the air from the front, drawing Castiel's gaze forward.
"Damn! A hot cop? What's going on now?"
His eyes locked onto the front of the crowd, where the chaotic throng engulfed a long-legged policewoman in a short-skirted uniform. In the ensuing pandemonium, the young officer lost her balance and was swept out by the crowd.
Her body tilted back at a ninety-degree angle, and he accidentally caught a glimpse of her legs as she fell.
Everything happened in an instant.
Nara Yare never imagined her warning would incite such chaos. Feeling herself falling uncontrollably backward, she could only close her eyes in despair.
In a flash, Castiel moved through the crowd.
The next moment, Nara was enveloped in a warm embrace, a strong arm wrapped securely around her waist.
"Phew! Just in time!" Castiel released a breath of relief and glanced down at the cop in his arms, stunned for a second.
Her shoulder-length black hair framed a delicate, makeup-free face, exuding a natural radiance. Coupled with her uniform, she carried an air of maturity.
"She's way hotter than any of the girls in the old man's magazines!" Castiel murmured, speaking to himself as his grip instinctively tightened.
"Hey! You perv!" Nara's face changed instantly. She broke free from Castiel's arms, eyes full of cold anger.
"Hands up!" Nara barked, pointing her gun at Castiel.
But the crowd surged again before she could finish her command, causing her to stumble forward uncontrollably.
Once more, Nara landed squarely in Castiel's arms.
He had reached out and caught her again without thinking.
"Ah! You perv! I'll kill you!" Nara yelled as she scrambled away, then aimed a vicious kick right at Castiel's crotch.
The force of her kick hinted at her ferocity; any man hit by it would be down for the count!
"Hey! Are you nuts? I was just trying to help you!" Castiel exclaimed, dodging the lethal strike, his face tinged with annoyance as he scrutinized the woman before him.
"Keep staring and I'll show you what happens!" Nara snapped, eyebrows knitted in anger, as she stepped back and trained her pistol on him. Just then, a voice crackled through her shoulder radio.
"Attention, all units! We have confirmed three suspects carrying an unknown quantity of explosives. Evacuate civilians and locate the suspects' hideout! Do not act alone!"
The radio transmission left both of them momentarily stunned.
"What the? Real terrorists? With explosives?" Castiel's eyes widened with a mischievous glint.
Upon hearing the orders, Nara's expression shifted to one of concern.
"Officer, if you don't hurry, the train station will truly be in danger!" Castiel urged.
"Hmph! You don't look innocent either! I'll deal with you later," Nara retorted, her gaze flickering with an unusual light as she studied him.
Amidst her earlier panic, she hadn't taken a good look at Castiel. Now, upon seeing his appearance, she was taken aback.
Castiel looked about twenty, but with his short black hair and sharp features, he seemed older than he was.
Yet what struck Nara most was his peculiar attire.
He was about six feet tall, dressed in a plain gray suit, and had a worn-out bag slung over his shoulder, with the faded slogan "Serve the People" on it.
He looked just like some young guy from the 1940s.
"Put that thing down. It won't do you any good against me." Castiel's eyes showed indifference as he withdrew his gaze from Nara.
"You!"
Nara's face flushed with anger at his words, just as a commotion erupted beside them.
"Everybody get the hell down!"
Three big guys burst in, waving rifles and yelling at everyone with crazed looks on their faces.
