Chapter 12: Headshot

Words : 2480 Updated : Jun 19th, 2025
Adrian Sawyer's gaze locked onto Myra with intense hatred. He stepped forward and slapped her hard across the face. Smack! A handprint appeared on Myra's swollen face. "You bitch, you said you'd love me forever, but you spent all my money and dumped me!" Smack! Another slap landed. Myra's face turned a purplish hue. "Aren't you just a slut? Damn it, I gave up everything in my divorce, and you went running to that fat-ass contractor! How can you be so despicable?!" Adrian's voice was full of rage and resentment. Myra's face was ashen. Adrian Sawyer was a small businessman she had previously attached herself to. He had a wife. Yet, Myra didn't care. She seduced him. After a few wild nights together, Adrian was hooked and even got divorced to be with her. But as soon as Myra found out he was broke, she ditched him without a second thought, leaving him with nothing. During this time, Adrian investigated and followed Myra. Today, he finally got his chance. Slap, slap, slap! Adrian let out all his pent-up anger, hitting her even harder. "Please... have mercy! Adrian, I'm begging you, let me go. I spent your money, but you slept with me too, so we're even, right?" Myra pleaded. Initially, with Peter backing her, Adrian wouldn't dare act so recklessly. But now, Peter had been beaten to a pulp. "Even, my ass! You dirty slut, who knows how many guys you've slept with! I must've been out of my mind to fall for you!" Adrian's face twisted in fury as he grabbed Myra by the hair and bashed her head into the floor over and over. "Aaaah!!" Myra screamed, her forehead battered and bloody. At that moment, she turned to Daniella and screamed, "Daniella, help me! I'm your friend! Please, save me..." Daniella might not be strong herself, but she had Allan. Adrian wouldn't dare lay a finger on Myra if he stepped in. Adrian tensed up. He'd seen just how scary Allan could be. If Myra had been saved, he would not have received his payback today. "Hmph! What goes around comes around! You reap what you sow!" Daniella shook her head, her gaze indifferent. She was kind-hearted, but she knew karma would catch up with everyone sooner or later. Moreover, Allan wouldn't have faced humiliation if Myra hadn't stirred up trouble earlier.  Daniella held back from slapping Myra herself, so there was no way she'd step in to help. "Looks like Daniella's grown a lot over the past five years," Allan thought, approvingly nodding.  Five years ago, Daniella's naive nature wouldn't have allowed her to stand by idly.  But now, she distinguished between right and wrong. Being kind with a clear head is way better than being blindly nice. Blind kindness can be even worse than malice. "You bitch, still trying to play me! Who the hell would want to help a slut like you?" Adrian showed no mercy, smacking Myra over and over, making her already messed-up face even more hideous. Soon, Myra's face was nearly destroyed, her injuries severe.  Even if she had been rushed to the hospital right now, fixing her would have been impossible unless some legendary doctor had worked a miracle. "Hahaha, serves you right, you conniving woman! You took my money and my heart. Now you can live out the rest of your days as a hideous freak!" Adrian laughed heartily. Just then, a squad of uniformed officers marched in through the front doors of Holy Pharmaceutical. "The police are here!" Everyone turned to see about a dozen imposing cops stride in, led by David Fox, the chief of Junbert's Police Bureau.  He was six feet tall and built like a tank, and his presence alone made people want to stand at attention. "Chief Fox, you're here, thank goodness!" Emery yelled, popping a special healing pill from Holy Pharmaceutical to steady himself.  The Nine Devil Needles had shredded him beyond recognition, rendering him impotent even if a beauty stood before him.  He hated Allan and wanted nothing more than to rip him to pieces. With the cops on the scene, especially with David present, Emery's confidence shot through the roof.  His influence must have been significant if David had arrived himself.  He felt assured. He would capture Allan and exact his revenge. But after shouting, Emery froze. David didn't budge.  His eyes were glued to Allan's right thumb, looking completely shocked. On Allan's thumb was a white jade ring, carved with a roaring Black Dragon. Allan's face was expressionless, but he noticed every change in David's expression.  That was the Dragon Ring, given to him by one of his mentors, who used to run an underworld organization called the Dragon Palace.  The ring was the symbol of the leader. "Looks like my master wasn't kidding. The cops even know about the Dragon Ring," Allan thought, his eyes lighting up. Inside Prison Zero, his seven mentors had crazy skills and mysterious pasts.  Allan never really asked, but he knew none were average. They were hiding in Prison Zero because of some huge secret they shared. He didn't care about a police chief, but if David recognized the Dragon Ring, it would be less of a hassle for him. "Chief Fox, what's wrong? Hurry and arrest this trash!" Emery urged, expecting his managerial position at Holy Pharmaceutical to earn him some respect. Suddenly, David whipped out his gun.  Its dark barrel glinted, and, to everyone's shock, it pointed not at Allan but at Emery's forehead. Nobody could believe the police chief was aiming his gun at Emery's head. "Chief Fox, what... what are you doing? Lower the gun, let's talk!" Emery's voice trembled. But David remained unfazed, his killing intent palpable. "David, what are you doing? This is Holy Pharmaceutical, not the police department. Do you dare flaunt your authority here?"  Suddenly, a deep voice cut in. An old man in a black suit came down the stairs.  He glanced at Emery and scolded, "Useless fool, always embarrassing me!" "Dad!" Emery's face lit up with joy, almost in tears.  The old man was John Lyson, the vice-chairman of Holy Pharmaceutical.  Emery's brazenness stemmed from his father's position. Otherwise, where would he find the confidence?  Today's setback was unexpected, but his father arrived in time. "Dad! You gotta get revenge for me! This guy kicked me across the room!" Emery blubbered. "Idiot! I'll deal with you once this is over!" John shook his head, disappointed. He then turned to David. "Chief Fox, this is Holy Pharmaceutical. Don't you think it's too much to be waving a gun around here?" "What does Mr. John suggest?" David's eyes narrowed, his voice cold. "I've looked into the situation. Holy Pharmaceutical has done nothing wrong. This young man is entirely at fault. Chief Fox, you won't oppose Holy Pharmaceutical over a nobody. I trust you'll make a wise decision." John's tone was ominous. "A nobody?" David's eye twitched, coldness flashing in his gaze. Bang! A gunshot rang out. Splat! The bullet went straight through Emery's forehead, blood spraying everywhere.
