Chapter 5: Butt Out!

As Jordan Sowden walked up to the entrance of Hayde Tower, about forty or fifty guys came pouring out. Some were carrying iron rods, others had machetes-they were furious, having just heard that Jordan was the one who beat up the Hayde family's eldest son. They were seething with anger, ready to kill.
The one leading them was that same property manager from before. "Kid, Lucas was nothing but good to you! He didn't care that your family's broke, or that you just got out of prison. Out of old times' sake, he tried to help you out! And how do you pay him back? By stabbing him in the back and trying to kill him!" The manager's speech just amped everyone up, and the crowd started shouting and howling.
"See? Just like an ex-con-no remorse, just violence! Everybody, look at this ungrateful jerk! Don't hold back-let's get him for Hayde! Take him out!"
"Yeah! Who do you think you are, messing with Hayde?"
"Let's jump him, cut him to pieces-get justice for Hayde!"
Jordan blinked, almost finding it funny. Funny how nobody cared about Lucas back when he was a nobody, but now that his family's got Hayde Tower, all these people are willing to fight and die for him. How ironic. But to Jordan, these guys weren't even worth his time-he was way more worried about his sister, Elina. Where was she? Was she in trouble too?
"Enough talk, everyone, get him! I can tell this guy's trouble! Kill him, and the Hayde family will reward you handsomely!" Even the security guard who'd just been fired was the first to charge at Jordan, acting all fired up.
Jordan smirked, raising his eyebrows in annoyance. He didn't really want to bother with these nobodies, but if he didn't do something, they'd just keep coming.
Suddenly, a Mercedes G8 screeched to a stop right in front of everyone, and two people jumped out.
"General Showyer, see? I told you-if you don't get rid of him, he'll just keep causing you trouble!" said Vivian Zuniga, Arianna's assistant.
Arianna stood tall, looking as cold as ice, scanning the crowd with a piercing glare. She didn't say a word-just stared them all down. "Whatever you're trying to do here, there are laws for this. Are you just gonna ignore the law?"
Her words hit like a ton of bricks, and everyone instantly stopped.
"She's tough! Is she from the Showyer family?"
"Yeah, not only is she from the Showyer family, she's also the Peerless War God. We can't afford to mess with her!"
But some people still wouldn't back down, yelling, "We're after this broke loser! He threw our Hayde off the ninth floor! Hayde's barely alive-he's gotta pay with his life!"
No matter how powerful she was, this wasn't her business-unless this guy had something to do with the Showyer family!
Arianna bit her lip, her face turning red with frustration. "He's my fiancé-we're engaged!"
Jordan was her fiancé! If it weren't for that, she'd probably be happy to see him get beaten up by this crowd. He was always getting into trouble!
Now that the Sowden family was finished, Jordan had nothing-just an ex-con with no one on his side. He should've learned to be humble, kept his head down, and realized his situation. But he was as brazen as ever, even daring to hit the Hayde family's eldest son!
The Hayde family used to be nobodies, but in the last three years, they'd risen to rival the Showyer family. If Arianna wasn't the Peerless War God, she probably couldn't even keep this crowd in check!
"Alright, let's leave this to the Hayde family! We should check on Hayde, see if he's still breathing, and get him to the hospital!" The property manager waved his hand.
They knew they were no match for the Showyer family or the Peerless War God.
"Stop!" Vivian Zuniga called out as Jordan tried to leave.
"Jordan, what's your deal? General Showyer just stuck up for you and you can't even say thanks? Now you're just gonna take off?"
"Are you even human? Without General Showyer, you'd be in pieces by now!"
But Jordan didn't seem to hear, heading straight for the Wrangler. He was anxious-what exactly happened to the Sowden family? Where was his sister Elina?
Arianna and Vivian showing up everywhere was starting to get on his nerves-he just couldn't get rid of them.
Suddenly, he stopped, turned around, and shot Arianna a cold look. "What, are you embarrassed to tell people you're my fiancée?"
He'd seen how uncomfortable she looked when she mentioned their engagement-like she was being forced, and that really pissed him off.
"If you're so embarrassed, just call off the engagement. Why bother tying yourself down?" Jordan said as he walked off.
If he didn't have more urgent things to deal with, he would've argued with Arianna right then. He could tell that even though she hadn't called off the engagement, in her heart she saw them as living in totally different worlds. If that was the case, breaking it off would be better for both of them.
After all, she'd never really be part of Jordan's world anyway.
But Jordan had more important things to worry about. He didn't have time for this.
Behind him, Arianna's face went from pale to flushed with anger, like a storm was brewing inside her. Her whole body tensed up, fists clenched, like she was about to explode.
She was seriously about to lose it!
Vivian had never seen her this mad-not even back in Westoria, fighting drug lords, had Arianna ever gotten this worked up.
But instead, Arianna just let out a punch, the force so strong it made a tree three meters away lose a bunch of branches and leaves.
She told herself Jordan wasn't worth losing her cool over.
"See, General Showyer? Didn't I tell you?"
"You went out of your way to throw him a welcome party, introduce him to some friends, try to help him out-and what do you get?"
"He's not just hopeless, he doesn't even appreciate what you're doing! He acts all cool, like he's better than everyone, throws your kindness back in your face, and even blames you for not breaking off the engagement-like it's your fault, like you're the one begging him to stay together!"
"Seriously, if you don't dump him now, when will you?"
Vivian was only getting more worked up.
But Arianna just stared off into the distance, a fire burning in her eyes.
"I want him to come crawling and beg me to break off this engagement!"
"I'll make sure he sees just how out of his league I am-and how small he really is!"
She was the Showyer family heiress, the Peerless War God-nobody's pushover!
Just calling off the engagement wouldn't do her reputation any favors-not as the Peerless War God, not as someone who always keeps her word.
But Jordan wasn't like other guys-he was weirdly confident and nothing ever seemed to get to him, so Arianna knew she had to switch up her game.
"Let's go-keep up with Jordan and make sure he comes to the party! And get Cristian, Lincoln, Lucas, Jones, and the rest of them here too!"
Vivian grinned and nodded, "General Showyer, you should've done this a long time ago!"
All these guys were rich heirs who'd been after Arianna, but she'd turned them down before because she was engaged.
Sitting in his Wrangler, Jordan's face was cold and his brow furrowed. Arianna's attitude was the least of his worries-he was way more concerned about the Sowden family and his sister Elina.
What the hell had happened in those three years? Where was Elina?
Fresh out of prison, he struggled to piece it all together.
After thinking it over, he made a call. "Tango, it's me. I need you to find out right now where my sister Elina is!"
