Leonard Zimmerman stilled his hand. After the outburst, Daisy Warth came back to her senses.
"I… I'm sorry, Dr. Zimmerman. I couldn't help it," Daisy said, her face burning. How embarrassing. He had barely done anything, and she had climaxed in front of a stranger.
How embarrassing.
"It's all right. I'm a doctor, you're a patient. Try not to overthink it. Can we keep examining you?" Leonard asked. If he was going to play a part, he would play it through. He had not expected Daisy to be so easily undone.
"Maybe I should stick it out," she said, cheeks aflame. She had come for an exam. She couldn't quit halfway.
That sudden tide of pleasure had been unlike anything she had known, as if she floated up among the clouds. From head to toe, a current seemed to run through her, sweet beyond words.
"Good. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can treat it. But rest a moment first," Leonard said.
He tugged her skirt back down. Her panties were a lost cause, soaked through. There was no point forcing them back on. He simply slipped them off. Wearing them would have been miserable.
There was a heat coming off Daisy that made his blood pound. Leonard's own body ached, a tight throb that felt like punishment of his own making. If he had not teased her so much, he would not be this desperate.
Daisy groaned inwardly. What a day for disgrace. He had only been trying to help her relax, and she'd caved so fast.
She had even soaked the sheet.
He had said it was fine, but guilt gnawed at her.
After a short rest, Leonard had her lie flat again. He folded a towel under her hips so the bed wouldn't be stained a second time.
His hand moved, unhesitating, back to the space between her thighs. Even after he wiped her down, she was still warm and slick to the touch.
Daisy bit down on her lip, determined not to make a sound. Pleasure crashed over her in waves, wiping out her thoughts. Her hand slid into Leonard's underwear and closed around him, kneading with hungry fingers.
The jolt ran through him. His stroking grew rougher, more intent.
"Mmm… ah… give it to me, give it to me," she breathed, desire rekindled in a flash. One hand worked him, the other hooked around his neck. She kissed the spot just below his ear.
Her body answered again, insistent as a drumbeat. Leonard stripped the rest of her clothes away with his free hand. She clutched him with one hand, and the other raked his back, restless and wild.
"Mmm… ooh… inside, put it inside," she murmured, voice melting like honey. Leonard heard her and pushed up from her, fingers at his belt. "You asked for it," he said.
Daisy's eyes opened, glassy and wet. She took in the twist of muscle across his torso. He peeled off his pants, then yanked off his briefs.
She squeezed her eyes shut in a frightened rush. So big. So thick. Her chest heaved. Heat pooled low in her belly, and sweat beaded on her skin as her hips kept shifting.
He stripped his briefs and his manhood sprang free, slick and unashamed. He swung a leg over her and straddled her.
He was slick; the head of him gleamed, and Leonard's pulse hammered. Whatever prudence he had was swept clean by want. He wanted her, wanted to pin her down and take her until she begged for mercy.
Outside, the roll-up shutter had been pulled down. No one would walk in. If she had not grabbed him, he might have held on to his wits a little longer.
They were in position, their bodies lined up for that last step, when Daisy's phone trilled. Leonard froze in place.
She shot him an apologetic glance, scrambled up, and answered. A few words were enough to throw cold water over the pair of them.
By the time she hung up, his arousal had faded. He tugged his clothes back on with quick, practiced motions and sat aside, watching her.
Daisy stared, stricken. She could not believe that wanton woman had been her.
"I'm sorry. I… I lost control. Should I come back tomorrow to continue the exam?"
"Yes. We should continue. But not right now. We can't keep going like this. I'm worried it'll be too much for you," Leonard said. She had surrendered before anything had even gone in. If he so much as slid a finger inside during the exam, she'd be completely overwhelmed.
"I'll come back then, Dr. Zimmerman. I should head back." Daisy tried to climb down, but her legs were useless-like jelly. Standing was a battle, walking impossible.
"Rest here a while. No one comes into the treatment room. I'll change the sheets," Leonard said. Letting a woman who had just come stagger out would be cruel.
"Thank you, Dr. Zimmerman." A blush lingered on her face. He was too considerate. If only she were not a few years older than him. If she could have married him back then, her life would have been perfect.
"It's what I should do. I'm a doctor. As for Hugh Zorn, he really needs to come in so we can see what's going on. We need to find out if it's psychological or physical. If it's physical, he should accept treatment. If it's psychological, you'll need to support him and help coach him through it," Leonard said, laying it out patiently.
"All right, thank you, Dr. Zimmerman. I'll talk to him. And about my condition…" Daisy hesitated. If she brought Hugh here and he saw anything between her and Leonard, he might not dare make trouble at the clinic, but he would make her pay when they got home.
He would beat her.
"Your condition stays between us. Don't tell anyone. Once you're fully recovered, it'll be behind you," Leonard said, a little guilty.
"Is there a pill my husband can take?" she asked. She didn't have much faith in getting Hugh to come. Since Leonard seemed to know what he was talking about, surely he could write something to take the edge off.
Leonard was not pleased.
With a case like Hugh's, a little blue pill might prop him up, at least enough for Hugh to get the job done. But a woman like Daisy, so lovely, deserved better than being used without pleasure. What a waste that would be.
He chose not to prescribe anything. The main reason was simple. They hadn't confirmed what Hugh was really dealing with. If he started relying on medication, it could steal precious time from proper treatment.
"Let's hold off on medication for now. When you talk him around, have him come in for a full workup," Leonard said.
"All right. That works. Thank you," Daisy said, shy again.
"Rest here for a bit. I need to see patients," Leonard said.
She nodded. He changed the sheet, tossed the soaked one in the washer, and opened a window to air the room out.
When he finished, he stepped out and rolled the shutter up to open for business. The first face he saw was Hugh Zorn.
Hugh spotted him and tried to peer inside. Leonard understood. A man whose wife came to see a doctor had nothing to hide-so why was the shutter down?
"Here to see Daisy?" Leonard said with an easy smile, and he ushered Hugh in.
"Ahem, Dr. Zimmerman, where's my wife?" Hugh asked. His wife was a beauty. He needed to keep an eye on her.
"She's resting in the treatment room," Leonard said, calm as you please. He could sense a spark of anger in Hugh, faint but there. If he tried to hide anything now, it could bring trouble down on his head.
"She's sick?" Hugh blinked, flustered.
Daisy was usually fit as a fiddle. How had he not known she was ill?
"Yes." Leonard walked back to his chair as he spoke. "It's nothing serious. I lowered the shutter to keep gossips from twisting things. If rumors start, I'll be fine. Your reputation would be ruined."
If people said a doctor had cuckolded him, even as a lie, he'd be a laughingstock in the village.
Hugh held his tongue. Leonard had a point. Their village had people who lived for that sort of talk.
And Leonard was unmarried. He would be even more cautious. If a story like that spread, even baseless, he would never find a wife in the village.
Leonard went on. "If your wife is unwell, you should bring her in yourself. Don't make her come alone. That's not how a man shows care for his wife."
"You're right, Doctor. I'll do better," Hugh said. Those few sentences took the wind out of him. His voice turned meek.
"We're not just from the same village. We're neighbors. Your wife has already told me what's going on. I don't want to prescribe meds blindly. You need a thorough exam," Leonard said.
Right now, Daisy's legs were still unsteady, and some of her clothes were probably still a mess. If Hugh walked in and saw, chaos would follow. Leonard stalled for time.
"It's embarrassing-guy to guy," Hugh muttered, face hot. What exactly had that wife of his told this doctor?
"Exactly. Or would you rather have a female doctor look at you behind your wife's back? We're neighbors. I'll protect your privacy," Leonard said with a teasing smile.
Hugh flinched and quickly put a finger to his lips, eyes darting toward the treatment room. He couldn't let Daisy hear that. If she did, she'd fly off the handle.
Inside, Daisy had been rattled by the sound of Hugh's voice. When Leonard first spoke to him, she had tried to get up. Her legs were still jelly. She couldn't walk. When she stood, her knees shook so hard she nearly dropped back onto the bed.
