"Doesn't matter. Just kill that bastard."
Jaden Waller spoke without hesitation.
"Young Lord, we've booked out Jenos Goldia Mansion. Your residence is already arranged," Nier reported.
"Good. I'll head over later." Jaden nodded.
Inside the Hoez family's ancestral estate.
Blood ran like a river.
Corpses littered the grounds, turning the place into a house of ghosts.
Lance Hoez stared at his son's severed headless body on the floor and threw his head back with a howl.
He looked truly deranged-hair in disarray, a headless corpse clutched to his chest, eyes hollow.
When his tears finally ran dry, he set the body down, rose, and walked out of the Hoez estate.
He made for the Lyson family, one of Jenos's Four Great Families.
…
The Lyson ancestral home sat in the city's most bustling district.
Two golden lions flanked the gate, carved so lifelike they seemed ready to leap. The entry steps were paved with precious nanmu, lavish to the extreme. The whole compound felt like an imperial garden hidden in the heart of the city-serene, old-world, and stately.
Lance reached the gate and was about to step inside when Louie Lyson, the young master of the Lyson family, came out. He took one look at Lance's bedraggled state, and a laugh slipped out.
"Uncle Hoez, what happened to you?"
"Pulled another all-nighter at your club? No offense, but you're not young anymore. You need to pace yourself. You can't be like us and go wild every night."
Lance's gaze had already gone pitch-black. He had no intention of laughing.
"Uncle Hoez, what's wrong?" Louie's smile faded. The mood was off. Normally, the old man would at least crack a smile at his jokes. Now Lance's face looked like a man who had just lost his son-coal-black with grief.
"Take me to your father. I need to speak with him face to face," Lance said, voice cold.
"Alright. Please, come in." Louie could tell something serious had happened and hurried to lead the way.
In the Lyson main hall, Elder Hudson Lyson happened to be there. He looked up at Lance's wild hair and chuckled.
"Old Hoez, trying a new hairstyle?"
"Second Uncle, I ran into Uncle Hoez at the gate. He says he has urgent business with my father," Louie added quickly.
"What's so urgent?" Hudson asked, frowning. For the head of the Hoez family to lose composure like this-had something happened to the Hoez family?
"Louie, go call your father," Hudson said at once.
"Yes, Second Uncle." Louie ran for his father's quarters.
"Old Hoez, what happened?" Hudson pressed once Louie was gone.
"Shao Qiu is dead," Lance said, bloodshot eyes burning. The killing intent coming off him filled the room.
"What!" Hudson lurched to his feet, almost losing his balance. "How is that possible? Who did it?"
In Jenos, who dared kill a member of the Hoez family? And not just anyone-the young master?
"They called themselves the Longevity Hall. I don't know how, but Shao Qiu offended them. To be precise, he offended their Young Lord," Lance said, fists clenched.
"Longevity Hall? Never heard of them. There's a force like that in Jenos?" Hudson frowned. "Start from the top. Tell me everything."
"Half an hour ago, a group of men in black stormed into the Hoez estate and started killing indiscriminately. Over fifty of our guards were slaughtered," Lance ground out between his teeth.
"What! All fifty-some guards, killed?" Hudson could hardly believe it.
"Yes. They were cold-blooded devils."
Bang!
Hudson slammed his palm down and shattered the table in front of him. "Outrageous! Old Hoez, don't worry. The Lyson family won't sit by and watch."
The Lysons and Hoezes had always been close. Striking the Hoez family was no different from slapping the Lysons across the face. No one had ever dared slap the Lysons in Jenos.
"What's going on?" Zayden Lyson, head of the family, strode in at an unhurried pace. Though nearly sixty, his color was excellent and his presence sharp-like a sword drawn from the sheath.
"Big Brother!" Hudson stood at once. Only after Zayden took his seat did he sit again.
"Old Hoez, what happened?" Zayden asked.
"Shao Qiu is dead."
"What! Uncle Hoez, you're saying Shao Qiu is dead?" Louie blurted as he came back in. "No way. We were at a nightclub together last night!"
His eyes flew wide. They had been partners in sin last night, and today his friend was gone.
"What exactly happened?" Zayden's brows knit. Someone had dared strike at the Hoez family, and with such cruelty.
Lance recounted the events once more.
"Longevity Hall?" Zayden's frown deepened. Since when had such a force appeared in Jenos without him hearing even a whisper?
"I'll send people to investigate," he said after a moment. "But my sixtieth birthday banquet is tomorrow. I don't want any mishaps. Old Hoez, put this aside for now. We'll talk after the celebration."
Lance heard the meaning loud and clear. The Lysons were not willing to wade into this mess-at least not yet.
"In that case, I'll take my leave." He stood and walked out without looking back.
"Old Hoez! What's the rush?" Hudson called after him.
"Let him go," Zayden said.
"Big Brother, are we really not going to step in? The Hoez family has always been close with us. We still need them in many of our ventures," Hudson said, baffled.
"We'll talk after my sixtieth. This matter is closed for now." Zayden's tone brooked no argument.
The sixtieth birthday banquet was the priority. Many big names would attend. Nothing could go wrong, or his reputation would take the hit.
"…Understood." Hudson could only nod.
"Do they really think the Hoez family held firm in Jenos only because of the Lysons?" Lance sneered as he stepped out of the Lyson estate.
He took out his phone and dialed.
"Hello? Brother, what's up? Why call out of the blue?"
"Ning Shuang, Shao Qiu is dead."
"What? How could Qiu-who did it?"
"A group calling themselves the Longevity Hall. Qiu somehow offended their Young Lord. Just now, a squad of men in black stormed into the Hoez estate and cut off his head."
Bang!
A deafening crash came through the line, like something being smashed.
"Three days from now, I'll personally lead people to Jenos. Whoever it is, I'll make him pay. I'll avenge Qiu."
