Oliver Zorn's meridians had been sealed with silver needles by Pierce Looske. He was trapped and could not move.
Hearing Pierce's interrogation, he glared at him with raw hatred and rasped a threat, "Do you know who I am? Lay a hand on me and I'll see your whole family dead!"
He still did not grasp how dire his situation was.
Pierce's face was cold as frost as he walked up and swung a hand across Oliver's face.
Smack!
The sudden blow sent Oliver sprawling. One cheek swelled at once, and a howl of pain tore from his throat.
"I'll ask you one more time. Where is Emmy Wimple?"
Pierce's voice was glacial.
"I... I don't know!"
Oliver forced the words out through the pain.
"Don't know? Then die."
Before the words finished, Pierce clamped a hand around Oliver's throat and lifted him off the ground.
"No... don't!"
Oliver thrashed in the air, legs kicking in panic, trying to break free.
Pierce's grip tightened. Oliver felt his breath cut off.
"I... I'll talk!"
He choked out a plea.
Pierce eased his hand a fraction.
"A mysterious person came to me that day," Oliver blurted. "Said she wanted to take Emmy Wimple from Miley Hayde and told me to keep quiet about it."
"At first I refused, but she paid me a lot. That's why I agreed to help her."
"Who was she?" Pierce asked, eyes like a blade.
"I don't know. I only heard she seemed to be from Jenton."
"I've told you everything, you-"
Crack!
Pierce's right hand tightened. Oliver Zorn's neck snapped.
Pierce flung the corpse aside. He did not spare it another glance.
"Go to Jenton and check immediately. Turn the city upside down if you have to, but find the one who took my mother."
Pierce looked to Peony, his expression hard.
Peony bowed. "Yes, Young Master. I'll go at once."
"Pierce..."
A timid female voice sounded beside him.
Lexie Looske called to him, testing the name.
The face before her had not changed much, but his entire aura had. And she had just watched him kill Oliver Zorn as if it were nothing.
"You've got the wrong person," Pierce said coolly, turning to leave.
"No, I didn't. You're Pierce!"
Lexie hurried forward and grabbed his arm, not letting him go. He looked different from the boy in her memory, but she was sure she could not be wrong.
Pierce felt a twinge of helplessness. Was this fate? He had been back in Seafrost less than two days and had already saved Lexie twice.
Seeing that her Young Master seemed to know the girl, and that they were not strangers, Peony tactfully took her leave.
"Pierce, it's been six years. Where were you all this time? I couldn't find you anywhere." Lexie's eyes reddened, her composure slipping. The cool, aloof CEO from the office looked like a wronged little girl.
Pierce did not know how to face her. Hearing that she had searched for him all these years stirred something inside him. After a long hesitation, he said softly, "I lived in the mountains, cultivating in seclusion."
The moment he finally spoke to her, Lexie's face brightened. "So you were in the mountains. No wonder I couldn't find you all this time. Are you leaving again?"
Pierce shook his head. "I don't know."
"Then you have to tell me where you go, or I'll lose you again."
"Why are you here?" he asked, guiding the topic away. He was also puzzled how Lexie had ended up involved.
"It's a long story..." Lexie gave him the short version.
Pierce listened, frowning. "So that car crash that night was orchestrated by Oliver Zorn too, just to force a takeover of your pharmaceutical company?"
Lexie nodded lightly. "Yes. Oliver already admitted his men did it."
"So brazen. Aren't the Zorns afraid of the Looske family?"
The Zorn family was strong in business, but they could not compare to an ancient martial clan like the Looskes. He dared to move against Lexie, and yet he was not afraid of the Looskes' retaliation?
"Pierce, you don't know. I already left the Looske family."
She met his eyes. "Same as you, I'm no longer one of them."
Surprise flashed across Pierce's face. He knew Lexie had been adopted and was not a true-born Looske, but he had not known she had severed ties. No wonder the Zorns dared to go after her. Without the Looskes' protection, she had no backing.
"When did this happen?" His voice had gentled.
"The day after you left the Looske family. Second Uncle didn't want me to go, but I insisted. He couldn't stop me."
"After I left, I kept looking for you," she added, eyes plaintive.
"I... didn't know." Guilt and a muted warmth tugged at Pierce. He knew she had left the Looskes because of him.
Lexie smiled, unconcerned. "I was adopted anyway. I figured I'd leave sooner or later."
Pierce gently brushed a hand over her cheek.
Lexie froze, stunned by the sudden intimacy. Her cheeks flushed. She did not dislike it; in fact, she felt a quiet joy.
"Don't move. You're hurt. I'll treat you," Pierce said.
Lexie flushed harder, realizing she had misunderstood. A cool, soothing sensation spread over her skin. The swelling faded quickly.
She stared, astonished. How did Pierce do that? She remembered the night of the crash. He had saved her with miraculous medical skills then as well. What had he gone through in these years? He felt utterly beyond her understanding.
"If there's nothing else, I'm leaving," Pierce said. "I killed Oliver Zorn. The Zorn family will be focused on revenge against me. They won't have the energy to target your pharmaceutical company for a while."
He turned and walked away, leaving Lexie standing there, a little lost.
As expected, news that Pierce Looske had killed the Zorn family's second young master, Oliver Zorn, spread quickly. People also learned that Oliver had been the murderer of the Hayde family's young miss, Miley Hayde.
Seafrost trembled once more.
In the Zorn family's main hall, the clan gathered. Benson Zorn, the patriarch, wore a face as dark as thunder. Rage rolled off him.
"Send everyone," he roared. "Find the one who killed my son. I want him torn to pieces, and his entire family wiped out!"
