An Oldakers family banquet nearly turned into a feast for the dead.
The missing young master of the Yale family, gone for ten years, had suddenly returned. The moment he made his move, he killed Andre Helwick, one of Zerton's ten greatest experts. He even slaughtered Anakin Upsall, the commander of the Zerton Guards…
Pierce Oldakers and his daughter were also shot dead on the spot.
The news hit like a bomb.
It detonated over Zerton, a city that had been calm for years, and the shockwaves tore through every street and alley.
"Brock Yale?"
"You mean the little young master of the Yale family who got wiped out ten years ago, the one who vanished?"
"That's him! He killed Pierce Oldakers and his daughter!"
"I heard he slapped Andre Helwick to death with one palm, and Nathaniel Lidyard too! He even killed Anakin Upsall, the commander of the Zerton Guards!"
"My God, he dared to lay hands on the King of Zerton's people? That kid has a death wish!"
"Zerton's about to change, isn't it?"
For a time, all of Zerton talked about nothing else…
At that moment!
The Oldakers family estate.
The bodies of Pierce Oldakers and his daughter lay in the center of the main hall.
Oldakers relatives stood on either side, rigid and silent. The atmosphere felt quiet in a way that made your skin crawl. Everyone waited for the Oldakers patriarch to decide what came next.
The Oldakers patriarch stared at his son and granddaughter's corpses. He did not rage. He did not wail. He only narrowed his aged eyes, his gaze flickering with thoughts no one could read.
After a long while…
The Oldakers patriarch, Micah Oldakers, finally spoke, slow and measured. "You're saying… the Yale family's survivor from ten years ago, Brock Yale, did this?"
"That's right!"
A middle-aged woman stepped forward, teeth clenched so hard her jaw trembled. "He's the one who killed my brother and Yuying!"
She was Danielle Oldakers, Pierce Oldakers's younger sister.
When Brock Yale had stormed the Oldakers villa, she had hidden among the family members and watched the entire scene. She had seen her brother and her niece die with her own eyes.
Micah Oldakers rose. Hands clasped behind his back, he paced at an unhurried rhythm.
"Andre Helwick and Anakin Upsall died by his hand as well?"
"Even the Zerton Guards' elite couldn't do anything to him?"
"Could he truly be an Earth Realm Warrior?"
Question after question fell from him. A man that young, with that kind of cultivation? He did not believe it. Part of him even suspected the Oldakers family had been scared out of their minds and exaggerated the truth.
"Absolutely true," Danielle Oldakers said, voice firm.
Micah Oldakers studied his daughter, then swept his eyes across the trembling relatives.
It seemed this was something they would rather believe than gamble against.
"An Earth Realm Warrior at twenty…" Micah Oldakers narrowed his eyes. A vicious glint surfaced in his muddy pupils. "Interesting."
He began issuing orders, each one colder than the last.
"Call everyone back who's working outside. All of them."
"And also, call Anderson Dalton. Tell him to come here immediately."
"We're going to meet this Yale brat head-on."
Danielle Oldakers's gaze sharpened, confusion written all over her face. "Dad… are you sure?"
"Our own people are one thing…"
"But calling Anderson Dalton?"
"He's one of the King of Zerton's men!"
"And tonight the King of Zerton is hosting a charity gala. It's the kind of event where people show their faces…"
"Would he really come?"
Micah Oldakers's expression darkened, his eyes shifting between storm and shadow. "He will."
"Because back then…"
"It was him… who went with us to the Yale family to kill them."
The moment those words landed, the hall seemed to inhale as one.
Eyes brightened.
"Yes. I understand." Danielle Oldakers no longer hesitated. She nodded and went to make the arrangements…
Meanwhile…
Scurr Villa.
After Vienna Scurr suddenly fainted, Brock Yale treated her at once.
Then the four of them returned to the Scurr family home. When Vienna finally opened her beautiful eyes again, night had already fallen. Brock Yale sat by her bedside, keeping watch.
"Brother Nian!"
The instant she woke, she cried out.
"Don't get worked up, Ruoxue. I'm here." Brock Yale quickly took her hand.
Vienna did not bother with words. She grabbed him tightly, then threw herself into his arms. Her eyes reddened in an instant.
Brock Yale gave a helpless, pained smile and sighed softly. "Silly girl. Don't panic. I'm right here."
After the string of shocks, Vienna slowly steadied herself in his embrace. Her gaze drifted down to her long legs, and her voice turned faint, heavy with dread.
"Brother Nian… will I still be able to dance in the future?"
"Of course you will." Brock Yale answered with calm certainty. "My medical skills… even my sixth master, who looks down on everyone, praised them."
"A pair of legs is nothing."
"Really?" Vienna's eyes lit up.
"Really." Brock Yale smiled back.
Seeing the confidence in his eyes, joy surged through her. She immediately tried to get out of bed.
Brock Yale stopped her with a laugh. "Wait. I can heal your legs, yes…"
"But people say it for a reason. Injuries to bones and tendons take time."
"I'm not making you rest a hundred days, but you do need to rest for one night."
Vienna nodded. Heat rushed to her cheeks, turning her face pink.
Brock Yale watched her wake. He took her pulse and confirmed she had only fainted from fright. He stayed with her a while longer, talked to her, and fed her a little congee.
When Vienna finally fell asleep, he gently slipped his hand free from her soft grasp and turned to leave the room.
Onyx Scurr saw him heading out and hurriedly caught his arm. "Wunian, you're really going to the Oldakers family?"
"I know your cultivation isn't low, but what you're facing is the entire Oldakers family."
"Earlier, you caused trouble at their villa. They might not have been prepared, so you got what you wanted. But after that chaos, the Oldakers estate will have made full preparations."
"If you go like this, you're walking into a net."
"And the King of Zerton… have you thought about the situation you're in?"
Brock Yale halted. He looked at Onyx Scurr. "William Scurr… do you know something?"
Onyx Scurr frowned, hesitating.
It seemed he truly knew something about the Yale family massacre from back then.
"I can't tell you." Onyx Scurr clenched his teeth, his expression tangled with conflict. "What happened that year… the less you know, the better."
Brock Yale shook his head. "The annihilation of my family is a blood feud. It can never be forgiven."
"Today, the Yale family of Zerton has only me left."
"If I don't uncover the truth and avenge them, who else is going to seek justice for my family?"
"William Scurr, if you don't want to tell me, that's fine. I won't force you."
"After I finish the Oldakers family, I'll go to the King of Zerton myself and demand an answer."
What?!
Onyx Scurr went pale. "You're going to the King of Zerton?"
Who was the King of Zerton?
A warlord with a hundred thousand Zerton Guards under his command. Every matter in Zerton, big or small, life or death, could be decided with a single word from him.
For Brock Yale to go looking for him…
Wasn't that suicide?
"Stop!" Onyx Scurr grabbed him in a panic.
Brock Yale turned back. He met Onyx Scurr's eyes, clear and earnest. "William Scurr, you're someone who watched me grow up…"
"I'm begging you. Tell me everything you know."
Onyx Scurr could not bear to watch Brock Yale throw his life away. Under that steady, unclouded gaze, his resolve wavered.
He fell silent for a long time…
Then, at last, he spoke in a low, flat voice…
