The numbers on the monitor started to spike and plunge violently.
"Beep-beep-beep-"
Heart rate. Blood oxygen. Both surged upward, then steadied in the normal range in the blink of an eye.
And then…
Something even more unbelievable happened.
Alfred Yonwin's eyelids fluttered. A moment later, he slowly opened his eyes.
"Dad?!" Yasmin Yonwin broke down on the spot. Tears poured down her face as she lunged to the bedside, clutching Alfred Yonwin's hand so tightly her knuckles went white, sobbing with joy.
The on-call doctor and a security guard rushed into the room at the same time. The instant they saw the patient awake, they froze, stunned into silence.
No way.
The man the specialists had declared would never wake up… had actually woken up?
"That's impossible!" Abby Heyland shrieked.
The on-call doctor snapped out of it and barked orders. "Move! Get him in for a full workup, right now!"
The next second, Alfred Yonwin was wheeled at speed from one exam room to the next.
CT. MRI. EEG…
Results came back one after another, and each one left the doctors questioning reality.
The scans showed that aside from muscle atrophy from prolonged bed rest, the bruising in his brain had vanished without a trace, and his neural function was recovering at an astonishing rate.
This… was nothing short of a miracle.
Yasmin Yonwin stared at the reports in her hands, shaking so hard she could barely hold the pages. She was too overwhelmed to even find words.
Christian Yale quietly let out a breath. The Inheritance's medical arts really were extraordinary.
He checked the time and spoke to Yasmin.
"Yasmin, your dad just woke up. He needs rest and continuous observation."
"Stay with him. I'm heading back. I've got work tomorrow."
"If anything happens, call me right away. And about Xander Zorn… be careful."
He could have stayed with her longer, but he worried that if they kept close, that strange yin-yang balance would start affecting Yasmin again.
After all…
The Inheritance's side effects were downright sinister.
Yasmin nodded hard.
They exchanged numbers and added each other on WeChat. Only then did Christian leave the hospital.
In the parking lot, he had just slid into the driver's seat and hadn't even locked the doors when the passenger-side door yanked open.
"Christian, we need to talk!"
Abby Heyland climbed in, staring at him with a tangled, complicated look.
"I really didn't expect this. Five years together, and I had no idea your medical skills were that good."
"And whose Porsche is this? Weren't you… drowning in debt?"
She couldn't shake the feeling that Christian had been hiding something from her.
Otherwise…
He could treat a vegetative patient, and she'd known nothing about it. And the moment the divorce paperwork started, he was suddenly driving a Porsche?
Christian's expression turned cold. "It's none of your business. Get out."
Abby not only stayed put, she leaned closer. Her perfume hit him in the face.
"Christian, don't be mad."
"I know I was wrong before, but I've already decided to cut Elliot Casson off."
"We had five years together. Can't you give me one more chance… and not get divorced?"
First love was poison. Once it got into your blood, it never really left.
She was sure that if she pushed a little, Christian would soften. And if he did, she could keep Elliot Casson on the hook, too.
Christian almost laughed from sheer disgust. "One more chance? Fine, Abby Heyland. I'll give you one chance."
He spoke, then shoved the door open and got out. He rounded to the passenger side and ripped the door wide.
Abby thought he was coming back to her. A sultry glint surfaced in her eyes.
She even lifted a long leg wrapped in stockings and draped it lightly over his shoulder, hooking him toward her.
"Hmph. I knew you still had feelings for me…"
"Feelings for your mom."
Disgust flashed in Christian's eyes. He seized her ankle and, without the slightest mercy, hauled her entire body out of the car.
"Ah!"
Abby screamed as she hit the ground in a humiliating sprawl. Her nurse uniform fell half open, exposing the lingerie underneath.
"The chance I meant was…" Christian tossed her jacket and scattered belongings out after her in one messy heap. "Once the cooling-off period is over, go get the divorce like a good girl. Otherwise… I won't be polite."
By the time Abby scrambled back to her feet, the Porsche was already gone, disappearing into the distance.
She trembled with rage, shrieking at the fading taillights, "Bastard! I'm not done with you!"
But after the scream, a strange heat rose inside her, spreading through her whole body.
Like a fever.
She needed to find the on-call doctor and get a shot…
…
In the rearview mirror, Christian watched her pathetic figure shrink until it vanished. A fierce satisfaction swelled in his chest.
He'd finally vented some of the poison in his gut.
If it hadn't been for Abby, things wouldn't have ended up like this.
And he had no intention of letting that woman off easily.
The yin-yang balance inside Abby had already broken in Yasmin's place. It spared him from backlash.
As for how long it would last, or whether it would ever end…
That had nothing to do with him.
By the time Christian got home, dawn had already turned the sky a pale gray.
He didn't sleep. Instead, he followed the cultivation method from the Inheritance, smoothing out the restless currents inside him stirred up by using it, sensing the way of yin and yang.
When he opened his eyes again, noon was close.
He picked up his phone from the bedside and saw several WeChat messages from Yasmin.
[Christian, my dad's condition is much more stable. Even the doctors said it's a medical miracle!]
[(snickering emoji) All those department heads kept surrounding me, asking question after question, trying to figure out who you are!]
[I told them you're a hidden master and already wandered off across the world!]
…
Christian couldn't help smiling.
The lively, bright teacher from his high school memories seemed to have returned.
He replied: "Yasmin, as long as your dad's okay, that's what matters. Let those doctors rack their brains. Take good care of him, and make sure you rest too."
Yasmin quickly sent back, "Mm-hmm," thanked him again, and said that once her father improved a bit more, she would treat Christian to a meal.
Christian agreed without hesitation.
After a few more short messages, he got up and washed up.
At exactly twelve o'clock, the Porsche pulled up on schedule outside the gates of Yerlington Manor.
Not long after, Margot Good emerged, swaying gracefully as she walked.
She wasn't wearing a dress today. Instead, she had changed into a white knitted casual set.
The top was a fitted cropped knit with a V-neck that outlined a full, proud curve. The bottoms were matching wide-leg knit pants with a beautiful drape. They didn't reveal her legs, but they shaped her peach-like hips all the same…
With every step, her figure moved like a slow, tempting tide, brimming with allure.
She opened the door and slid in, her hips settling into the seat first. A refined, faint perfume spread through the cabin.
"Right on time." Margot Good flicked her eyes over Christian. "Not bad."
Christian drew a slow breath and tightened his grip on the steering wheel. "Margot, are we going straight to Celestial?"
Margot didn't answer. She simply pulled the seatbelt across and clicked it in.
The strap pressed over her chest, making her already generous curves even more striking.
Then she turned her head and asked, "A-Chen, do you think I'm beautiful?"
Christian's heart skipped. He nodded honestly.
"You are."
"Oh?" Margot seemed pleased. She leaned slightly toward him. "Then… do you want to make me yours?"
Buzz.
Christian's mind went blank. His heart hammered like a drum, sweat beading in his palms.
The question was lethal. He had no idea how to answer.
Seeing his flustered expression, Margot leaned back again. "There's a reason I kept you by my side as my driver."
Christian blinked, staring at her in confusion.
Her red lips parted, and she tossed out a task that left him dumbstruck. "I want you to seduce one of my best friends."
"Who?"
"Delpine Group. Bernice Warth."
Christian jolted so hard he nearly hit the gas instead of the brake.
Bernice Warth?!
He knew that name far too well.
A constant on the trending lists. A red-hot singer whose albums kept topping the charts.
The number-one female cosplayer in the anime and cosplay scene, crowned a "god-tier face."
A top-tier rising star in the Chinese entertainment world, blessed with both talent and beauty.
And the most ridiculous part…
Later she left the industry, reinvented herself, and built a women's products business empire. Her group's performance sat at the top of the national rankings.
Margot Good was friends with her?
And she wanted him to…
Seduce her?
What the hell…
How was the world this insanely surreal?
