Chapter 3: What? Marriage!

Words : 0 Updated : Oct 16th, 2026
(Aline POV) "Could my seduction skills really be this advanced? It's only been how long, and he already wants to marry me?!" My mind buzzed, and before I could react, Evan had already taken my phone from my hand, his long fingers quickly typing something. "I have things to do today. Tomorrow at noon, we'll go register our marriage." He said while returning my phone to me. I looked down to see a new name in my contacts: Evan. No surname, no notes. "Wait—" I wanted to say something, but Evan had already stood up. "What? Getting cold feet?" He looked down at me, his golden eyes flickering with something I couldn't understand in the dim light. After saying this, he turned and left decisively. I watched his figure disappear at the bar's entrance, my mind completely blank. What the hell just happened? "Aline! Aline!" Rhea's voice pulled me back from my daze. She rushed to my side frantically, seeing me sitting stunned on the sofa. "What happened? Did he reject you?" She asked with concern. "It's okay, it's okay. Men at that level aren't easy to handle anyway..." "We're going to register our marriage tomorrow." I interrupted her, my voice somewhat distant. She stopped mid-sentence, blinking, as if waiting for her brain to process this information. "What did you say?" "Evan said we're going to the marriage registration office tomorrow at noon." I held up my phone to show her the message he'd just sent: "Tomorrow noon at 10 AM, City Hall." Rhea's eyes widened like saucers: "Wait, wait—you're saying the Evan White you just met, Lucas's uncle, that legendary big shot who covers the sky with one hand, just... proposed to you?" "Yeah." I nodded, finding it incredible myself. "The kind of serious proposal where you actually get a certificate?" "He looked very serious." I recalled Evan's expression when he left. "Very serious." "After knowing each other for less than an hour?" "To be precise, twenty minutes." I checked the time. "Maybe not even that." Rhea stared in shock, finally grabbing my arm: "What did you do to him? Hypnosis? Did you drug him? Or use some kind of magic?!" "I'd like to know too." I smiled bitterly. I had no idea what had just happened. According to my original plan, I should slowly approach him, create ambiguity, maybe after several dates establish a relationship, then use him to get revenge on Lucas and those hypocritical relatives. But now— He actually skipped all the steps and went straight to the marriage registration office? "Aline, are you sure he's not joking?" Rhea asked skeptically. "Maybe it's some rich playboy's prank?" I thought of Evan's golden eyes when he left—calm, sharp, without any hint of jest. And his tone when he spoke in my ear, low and serious. "No, he was serious." I shook my head. "I could feel it." "Oh my God!" Rhea gasped. "Aline, if you really marry Evan, Lucas will absolutely lose his mind! The entire White family will go crazy! Imagine Lucas discovering his ex-girlfriend became his uncle's wife—this is ten times more explosive than your original revenge plan!" "But this is too crazy." I murmured. "We don't know each other at all." "Know each other?" Rhea scoffed. "Do Lucas and Sophia know each other? Aren't they still getting engaged? Besides, you and Lucas grew up together—you knew each other well enough, right? How did that turn out?" "Maybe he was just captivated by you?" Rhea shrugged. "Aline, you need to have confidence in your charm. You're beautiful, smart, and elegant—any man would be attracted to you." "What are you planning to do?" Rhea asked the crucial question. I looked at that unfamiliar yet weighty name on my phone, reason repeatedly reminding me: This is too crazy. "I haven't decided yet." I said honestly. (Evan POV) When I drove away from the bar, my hands were still slightly trembling. Damn it. If I had just exposed my true identity in the human world, troubles would come one after another. I gripped the steering wheel tightly, trying to calm the restlessness in my heart. That woman just now—there was something about her that made me completely lose control. It wasn't just her beauty or her direct, bold way of flirting. It was something else. Something deeper, more primitive. Her scent. Even in that bar full of alcohol and cigarette smoke, I could still accurately capture her unique sweet fragrance. Like spring flowers, like dewdrops under moonlight, carrying an irresistible temptation. I had lived in the human world for so many years and never encountered such a situation. No human woman had ever triggered this kind of reaction in me. But she did it. Because of one kiss, my wolf nature almost broke free. I nearly lost all control on that sofa. What was more terrifying was that when her fingers traced my neck, Ronan almost howled aloud. That was a reaction that only appeared when facing a true mate. But how was this possible? She was just a human. Ever since father began pressuring me, urging me to quickly find a suitable mate had become the family's top priority. As the Alpha's heir, I had to find a Luna capable of continuing the bloodline. But all those arranged blind dates, those well-matched Alpha daughters, made me feel bored. They were too perfect, too conforming to all expectations. Beautiful, elegant, pure bloodlines—completely meeting all standards for a future Alpha's mate. But they were also too boring. No surprises, no challenges, no moments that made my heart race. Until tonight. That woman named Aline had something wild about her, an untamed quality. When she provoked me, when she met my gaze without flinching, Ronan roared with excitement. I pulled out my phone and dialed Beta Reid's number. "Sir?" His voice carried a hint of surprise—after all, it was past midnight. "Help me investigate someone. Aline. About twenty-something, was at Yes bar tonight." "How deep do you need me to dig?" "As detailed as possible." "When do you need it?" "Before 10 AM tomorrow." "Understood, sir." I hung up and leaned back in my seat, closing my eyes. In our werewolf tribe's history, no werewolf's mate had ever been human. Werewolves usually only felt this strong attraction and recognition toward their own kind. But that human woman just now—what exactly did she do to me to make me almost lose control? More importantly, why did I propose to her? That was completely outside my plan. I had originally just wanted one night of indulgence, to release the pressure that had been building lately. But when she looked at me like that, when her scent lingered at my nose, what came out of my mouth was a marriage proposal. I had to figure this all out.
