Chapter 1

My sister and I were twin spirit foxes, sent together to the Dragon Clan for an arranged marriage. The eldest prince of the Dragon Clan immediately took a liking to me, the five-tailed spirit fox, while my sister was forced to marry the neglected Prince Ramiro. Later, I gave birth to a frail black dragon for the eldest prince, while my sister bore the Prince Ramiro a rare and noble golden dragon. Because of this, Prince Ramiro won the Dragon King’s favor and was named the heir to the throne. The eldest prince hated me for ruining his future and, taking advantage of my vulnerability, shattered my celestial bone with a single strike. “If not for your sorcery deceiving me, the throne would have been mine. You are the stain upon my noble bloodline.” When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back on the day we were sent to the Dragon Clan for the marriage alliance. … My sister and I were twin spirit foxes, born of the same womb. In my previous life, the Dragon Clan sought to strengthen the bloodline of their next heir and sent emissaries to the Fox Clan, requesting a marriage alliance. As the most gifted spirit foxes of our clan, my sister and I were sent to the Dragon Clan together. In the grand hall of the Dragon Clan, the emissaries presented spiritual orbs to unlock our celestial bones and reveal our true forms. My sister stepped forward first, placing her hand on the orb. A dazzling white light burst forth, revealing her true form as a three-tailed spirit fox. The gathered dragons marveled at the sight. Ever since the nine-tailed spirit foxes had vanished from the world, a three-tailed fox was considered exceedingly rare. Oscar, the Dragon King’s most favored son and the eldest prince, was impressed and decided to take my sister as his primary consort. But just as he made his decision, I placed my hand on the orb. A radiant, multicolored light illuminated the entire palace, and five magnificent tails unfurled behind me, leaving everyone stunned. Oscar immediately abandoned his intention to marry my sister and chose me instead. My sister, in turn, was forced to marry the neglected Prince Ramiro. Not long after the marriage, I gave birth to Oscar’s child—a frail black dragon. Meanwhile, my sister, the three-tailed fox, miraculously gave birth to a golden dragon, a rarity unseen for a millennium. The Dragon King was overjoyed and began to favor Ramiro, officially naming him the heir to the throne. Oscar’s hatred for me deepened. While I was still recovering from childbirth, he shattered my celestial bone with a single strike. The excruciating pain coursed through my body as I demanded to know why he would be so cruel. Oscar sneered coldly, his tone cutting. “If not for your sorcery, I would have fathered the golden dragon with Katrina and secured the throne. You have tainted my noble blood.” As darkness overtook me, I saw Oscar lift the frail black dragon I had borne him and hurl the baby to the ground with all his strength. In an instant, the fragile black dragon, already weak, lay lifeless on the cold floor, reduced to nothing more than a heap of lifeless flesh. Overwhelmed by hatred, I shed tears of blood, vowing to tear Oscar limb from limb. But when I opened my eyes again, I found myself back on the very day we were sent to the Dragon Clan for the marriage alliance. “Father, I choose Katrina as my primary consort.” The radiant light once again illuminated the dragon palace, and my five tails were on full display for all to see. I noticed Oscar’s gaze shift between me and my sister—hatred in his eyes when he looked at me, and a fervent desire when he looked at her. It was then that I realized that he, too, had been reborn. Oscar believed that by choosing my sister, he could father the noble golden dragon and secure his place as the next heir of the Dragon Clan. But what he didn’t know was that his mother’s lineage belonged to the lowliest of black dragons. The black dragon I bore him was already the greatest I could offer. The crowd was baffled by Oscar’s decision to abandon the five-tailed spirit fox, the most gifted of our kind, in favor of the lesser three-tailed fox. Even the Dragon King frowned in disapproval. “Oscar, this concerns the future of the Dragon Clan. Do not act recklessly.” Oscar remained resolute. “Father, though Nevaeh is a five-tailed fox, it does not guarantee she will bear the best dragon offspring. I ask for your blessing to marry Katrina instead.” “As for Nevaeh, I believe she is better suited for Ramiro.” Seeing Oscar’s unwavering determination, the Dragon King slammed his scepter to the ground in frustration but ultimately relented, granting Oscar’s request. Without another word, he stormed out of the hall. When Katrina saw my five-tailed fox form, jealousy flickered in her eyes. But realizing that Oscar had chosen her, her expression twisted into one of smug triumph. “Thank you, Your Highness, for your favor. I am honored you do not disdain me for being a mere three-tailed fox. As for my sister… what a pity for such a rare talent to go to waste.” Katrina sidled up to Oscar, her tone dripping with satisfaction. Oscar pulled Katrina into his arms, casting a disdainful glance in my direction. “A five-tailed fox? So what? Only those who can bear noble dragon heirs are worthy of being my consort.”
