Chapter 1

Words : 0 Updated : Nov 6th, 2026
The day before the engagement, my fiancé told me he wanted to take me on a world tour. As soon as we landed in northern Myanmar, he and his lover tied me up and tossed me into a car. The further the car drove, the more familiar the surroundings became. My entire body trembled as I begged them to stop the car and let me go home. Zeke sneered, his voice dripping with disdain. "Don't waste your breath. Once I sell you to the compound, no one will ever stop me and Lila from being together." I wept bitterly. It wasn't just me who was doomed—it was the two of them as well. This was Gideon Thibodeaux's stronghold. For years, I had used every ounce of strength and cunning to escape from him. Yet, just as I returned home, I found myself sent right back. ... "Sweetheart, how about I take you on a world tour?" Zeke Harlan said, gently stroking Sadie's long hair. His eyes glimmered with something she didn't quite understand. "We'll start in northern Myanmar. They've got the most beautiful gems." Sadie, elated at the thought of becoming a bride, failed to notice the strange tone in his voice. She agreed to his suggestion without hesitation. Zeke eagerly helped her pack her bags, his gaze filled with a peculiar anticipation. It wasn't until the plane landed in northern Myanmar that Sadie realized they weren't alone. Lila Number 56, Zeke's first love, was there, too. "Zeke, what's going on?" Sadie gripped the handle of her suitcase tightly, her eyes darting between Lila, who now clung to his arm, and Zeke. Zeke's smile vanished instantly, replaced by a cold, bone-chilling expression. "Sadie," he said with venom, "you didn't really think I took you on vacation, did you? Did you actually believe I would marry you?" His voice grew crueler. "If not for your family's wealth, I wouldn't have even looked at you." Lila yanked the suitcase from Sadie's grasp and smirked. "Stop dreaming, Sadie. Zeke only loves me. As for you…" Her smile twisted into something sinister. "I'll sell you to the compound. You'll disappear forever." Hearing the word "compound" made Sadie's body cold. Her voice trembled uncontrollably as she pleaded, "No! Please… I'll give you everything, all of my family's fortune. Just don't take me to the compound. Please…" Zeke, unmoved by her pleas, kicked her to the ground, his face contorted with a hideous grin. "Scared now? Didn't you say you loved me? If you love me so much, go die for me. Only when you're gone can Lila and I live peacefully." "Enough, Zeke. Stop wasting time with her. The buyer's waiting to inspect the goods," Lila said, standing over Sadie with a smug expression. She reached into her bag and pulled out a syringe, her fingers caressing it like a prized possession. "One shot, and you'll behave," she purred, her smile cold and menacing. "No… Please…" Sadie's voice trembled as she stared at the syringe in Lila's hand, her chest rising and falling in panic. Her fingers went numb, and her hands were slick with sweat. "Don't…" she pleaded, her voice breaking, "I beg you…" Lila's steps were deliberate, each one pounding in Sadie's ears like the toll of a bell. Sadie's throat tightened, as if an invisible hand had gripped her neck. "Please… No…" Sadie begged, her eyes wide with terror, retreating as far as she could. But the cold needle met her skin, sending a chill through her that froze her in place. Her breathing stopped. Her heart seemed to pause mid-beat. "No…" she whimpered one last time, struggling weakly. Lila grabbed Sadie's wrist, her sharp nails digging into her skin like claws, leaving a stinging pain. The needle pierced her skin. The icy liquid seeped into her veins. Sadie collapsed, her body lifeless against the ground, her eyes losing their light until they closed completely. In the final moments before she blacked out, Sadie saw Lila's triumphant smile. Mockery and contempt filled Lila's gaze, as though laughing at Sadie's helplessness.
