Seeing the ridiculous scene at the door, Hudson couldn't help but furrow his brows. "Who are you? What's going on?"
Although Hudson knew Justin, Justin's head was wrapped in bandages now, looking different from usual. It was only when Miles approached closely that he recognized him.
Justin struggled to stand up, crawling. "Chief Harrison, I'm Justin! Just now... I was..."
"Justin?" Hudson looked closely. "What happened to your head?"
Justin awkwardly swallowed. "The light at home was broken, and I fell while changing it."
"Oh..." Hudson nodded. "This is a family banquet, I don't want to make a fuss."
Justin hurriedly said, "Chief Harrison, rest assured! I haven't told anyone else!"
Maxwell looked at him curiously. What was this guy doing here? Was he here to complain? The question was, would he win if he did?
With a belly full of doubts, Maxwell looked at Justin lightly, who toasted everyone before finally reaching him.
Justin chuckled and said, "Maxwell! I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you as a distinguished guest in the hall! Let me apologize with three cups."
Without waiting for Maxwell to speak, he quickly drank three cups of white wine.
Maxwell suddenly realized. This guy came to make amends.
But could three cups of wine settle that? Justin laid a finger on his wife, after all!
After Justin finished his drink and saw Maxwell just holding his glass without drinking or persuading him, he immediately spoke his prepared words.
"Maxwell, the loan from the Jerome family is on me!"
"The Jerome family's project fits the criteria for our support of high-tech projects!"
"The loan can be interest-free, and there's support from the high-tech development fund!"
"I've calculated it preliminarily, three million interest-free loans, plus five hundred thousand dollars in development funds. It's no problem!"
"The development fund doesn't need to be repaid, as long as the income and expenditure are transparent."
"I've just taken over this position, and the loan process has been a bit sluggish. I will apologize sincerely to Miss Jerome later!"
Maxwell couldn't help feeling helpless. This guy was truly a genius at following the tide.
In this situation, Maxwell could only temporarily avoid confrontation with him.
He nodded without speaking, just raised his glass and drank.
Justin finally breathed a sigh of relief, temporarily passing this test.
He was about to take his leave when Hudson suddenly spoke up, "Justin, what you just said about the loan reminded me. Is the Wade family also seeking a loan? And it's not a small amount."
"Yes..." Justin hurriedly said, "From the information I have, the Wade family's project has a high potential for future profits."
"Humph!" Hudson frowned and added, "This money cannot be approved! Also, pay attention to the Wade family's repayment situation. If there are any abnormalities, take action immediately!"
"Huh?" Justin was stunned, unable to help but blurt out, "Did the Wade family offend Chief Harrison?"
Hudson frowned and asked, "Do you think I am someone who mixes personal grudges with official duties?"
"Chief Harrison, I apologize. I didn't mean that, I..."
"Enough!" Hudson waved his hand. "The Wade family's project is touted as introducing high-tech, but from what I understand, there will soon be technological breakthroughs in related fields domestically, reducing costs by two-thirds! The Wade family's investment is likely to be in vain! Do not support this project!"
"Should we inform the Wade family?"
Hudson shook his head and responded, "It involves trade secrets, can't disclose it unless you want to be sued! Just do as I say!"
"Understood."
"All right, you may leave!"
Justin toasted the others once again, then left the private room.
After he left, Hudson said to Miles, "Luckily you informed me in time, otherwise, once the money was given to the Wade family, it would be an irreparable loss!"
Miles laughed and said, "I didn't expect the companies in the capital to be so formidable! They've made technological breakthroughs so quickly. Now I just want to find a way to bring that company's technology to Delington."
"Hahaha..." Hudson laughed and continued, "That's up to you now. In terms of connections in the capital, I'm no match for you."
The two went from discussing work to lighter topics, and Nora helped liven up the atmosphere. They enjoyed the meal together, and before they knew it, three hours had passed.
Seeing Hudson starting to feel tired, Miles suggested ending the banquet.
Everyone laughed and chatted as they walked out.
...
As they left the hall, a figure suddenly stopped in their tracks, looking at the group with astonishment. It was Avery.
She had come to the Eastwind Grand Hotel this afternoon for business, but she hadn't expected to come across Maxwell and Hudson. She watched from afar as Maxwell conversed and laughed with Hudson, feeling shocked.
Could this bumpkin be dining with Chief Harrison?
Was he truly a bumpkin?
Could he have some remarkable background?
But... if he did have a background, why didn't Abigail know about it?
She took out her phone, intending to tell this to Abigail. However, as she dialed, she hesitated and put the phone back, gazing at Maxwell's figure in contemplation.
...
After the dinner, Maxwell was invited by Nora and Miles to their home.
Meanwhile, things were a bit chaotic on the Jerome family's side due to the delayed loan.
Jerome Group was the family business of the Jeromes, with many relatives of the Jerome family among the shareholders. Apart from Victor, the largest shareholder outside the family was Nathan. He was currently sitting in the Jerome family's hall, berating Peter angrily.
"If the loan doesn't come through again! The company's cash flow will be cut off!"
"What's going on? Why is the loan so difficult this time?"
"Peter, if you don't want to be the chairman anymore, just step down and let someone more capable take over! My son should do it"
Peter's face was very ugly. He wanted to retort but lacked confidence.
Indeed, there were troubles with the loan.
Nathan in front of him was his uncle in terms of seniority.
Peter was scolded relentlessly, feeling extremely frustrated.
If he had known earlier, he wouldn't have persuaded the old man to go for a rest. With the old man around, at least he wouldn't lose face in terms of seniority.
"Nathan..." Peter finally found a chance to speak, "There's progress on the loan. The Skyward Bank has changed its president. Maybe because he's not familiar enough, but I've found an intermediary already. The loan will be approved."
"Then why aren't you hurrying to get it done?" Nathan roared, "Do you think the loan will just fly over while you're lounging at home?"
"I'll go right away! I'll make the call now!" Peter quickly got up to call Jaxon, feeling troubled! He had planned to take Abigail and Jaxon together tomorrow, creating an opportunity for the two, but now, thanks to this old guy's meddling, it seemed impossible.
Sophia brought a glass of water to Nathan, saying, "Nathan, have some water. Please calm down. We have everything arranged."
Nathan put the teacup down with a frown. "I heard your family has taken in a son-in-law, a country bumpkin? Is that true?"
"Uh..." Sophia looked embarrassed and asked, "How did you know?"
"Humph!" Nathan slammed the cup on the coffee table.
"What are you doing? Are you embarrassing our Jerome family like this?"
"We thought Abigail could marry someone of equal status, with both families joining forces to strengthen the Jerome Group."
"But you let Abigail marry a country bumpkin! I feel ashamed for you!"
"Bringing such a character into the family, I think Abigail should resign as the CEO of the company, to avoid tarnishing the company's image!"
