Maxwell glanced at Peter and Jaxon with a puzzled expression. What did loans have to do with Jaxon?
"Maxwell!" Peter sneered when he saw Maxwell.
"When Mr. Wade was running around for the loan, where were you?"
"Even if you're useless, couldn't you at least help carry a bag?"
"Don't think just because Grandpa isn't here, there's no one to control you at home!"
Maxwell's brow furrowed even tighter as he probably figured out what was going on. It was frustrating. Once again, someone else was taking credit for his work!
"Utterly ridiculous!" he shook his head, looking at Peter as if he were an idiot, then turned and went upstairs.
"Thick-skinned!" Abigail muttered under her breath as she passed by.
Maxwell gave her a caring look as if she were foolish. "Ignorant!"
"What... what do you mean?"
Maxwell shrugged. "Figure it out yourself!"
"Stop right there!"
Ignoring him, Maxwell went straight to his small room.
Although he was arranged to sleep in the same room as Abigail, Victor still arranged a study-like room for him.
Seeing Maxwell enter the study and close the door, Abigail clenched her teeth in anger. This jerk was getting more and more arrogant!
When Victor came back, she would tell him everything!
She wouldn't allow Maxwell to stay in the Jerome family if he remained so clueless!
"Abigail, don't mind that country bumpkin! Come over here, let me tell you something!" Peter excitedly sat on the sofa.
"Mr. Martell's conditions this time are very favorable for us, with interest-free loans and fund support!"
"This is thanks to Mr. Wade! Without his help, how could we have such good things!"
"I didn't expect the Wade family to have such great influence!"
"Mr. Wade, how about our two families cooperate more in the future!"
Jaxon listened with a smile on his face. If the two families got closer through cooperation, wouldn't he and Abigail get closer too?
Making Abigail, the ice queen, fall for him would be such a thrill!
Jaxon felt pleased inside but remained modest on the surface. "Peter, you're too kind. It's nothing. Helping the Jerome family is the least I can do as a friend of Abigail."
"Abigail!" Sophia smiled and added, "Come and thank Mr. Wade! In the future, pay less attention to Maxwell, that country bumpkin, and interact more with Mr. Wade."
Interest-free loans and fund support were crucial for the Jerome Group, and Abigail was very grateful to Jaxon. She nodded slightly to him. "Thank you so much!"
Jaxon smiled generously. "It's just a small effort. Don't be so polite. We'll have plenty more cooperation between our families in the future!"
"Oh right, Mr. Wade..." Peter said, "The loan from Skyward Bank is quite substantial. We can't just let the money sit in the account. Do you have any projects we can collaborate on?"
Jaxon thought for a moment, his eyes lighting up. "There is a project, a high-tech one. I'm discussing involving my cousin. Why don't we invite her over and discuss together how we can all participate?"
"Great! Let's do that. After all, Avery is not a stranger!"
...
Maxwell had been digesting the information he received today in the study. Whether it was Hudson or Miles, they were all top figures in the power center of Delington. The words they spoke all contained very important information, much of which could be useful when he revitalized Xelooe Palace.
By dinnertime, Maxwell finally came out of his room.
Sophia saw him and immediately huffed, "What timing! Can't even show up for dinner on time!"
Peter glanced at Maxwell. "We were discussing matters. You should come and listen too!"
Sophia frowned. "Why should he listen to these matters?"
"Just let this bumpkin listen so he knows the level of matters we discuss in the Jerome family! So he can have some self-awareness!" Peter chuckled and continued, "Just so he doesn't lack even basic self-awareness!"
"Good point..." Sophia nodded, turning to Maxwell. "Come and eat! The Jerome family doesn't feed freeloaders!"
Maxwell smirked coldly. "This meal is rightfully mine to eat."
"Not much talent, but thick-skinned!" Sophia sneered, then placed a set of utensils at the lowest position.
Maxwell didn't mind. Indifferently, he scooped a bit of everything into his bowl, creating a small mountain of food.
Then, he ate swiftly. His bowl quickly emptied.
"Useless!" Sophia muttered disdainfully.
Abigail looked at Maxwell, her brow furrowing in secret.
This b*stard was her legal husband after all. Couldn't he at least maintain some dignity in front of others?
On the dining table, there were also Jaxon and Avery.
It was embarrassing!
Jaxon had already ignored Maxwell, feeling that this guy being driven out of the Jerome family was only a matter of time.
Avery, however, didn't show disdain. She just looked at Maxwell with interest.
Maxwell looked up, seeing everyone looking at him. He grinned and said, "Don't just sit there staring. Eat up, or it'll get cold! Jaxon, Avery, don't be shy!"
With that, he continued to eat his meal without a care.
Peter and his wife's faces became even grimmer.
Who did this hick think he was?
Did he think he was the master of the Jerome family?
They had never seen someone with such thick skin!
"Ahem!" Peter looked disdainfully at Maxwell, then said to the others, "Ignore him. Let's eat and talk!"
...
The discussion shifted to the project with the Wade family, and they seemed to forget about Maxwell's presence.
In the end, the preliminary intention was for the Jerome family to invest 2 million, and Avery, representing the Larson family, would also invest 1.5 million.
Peter smiled with satisfaction. Being the core of this felt great. Moreover, Abigail had talked to him softly a few times. This treatment made him feel even more comfortable like he was about to soar.
After everyone finished discussing, Peter saw that Maxwell had already refilled his bowl three times. He was secretly furious. Did this guy really think the Jerome family was a free buffet? Just eating and eating! He would eat himself to death!
Frowning, he said, "Maxwell, did you hear us? You're also part of the family now. Do you have any suggestions?"
Peter was sure that Maxwell wouldn't understand anything, and if he did say something, it would only show his ignorance. Then, he could take the opportunity to humiliate this guy properly. Seeing him eat like that was infuriating!
Sophia sarcastically added, "Yeah, Maxwell, speak up. Share your brilliant ideas."
Maxwell put down his cutleries, paused, and solemnly said, "My suggestion is, don't invest in this project. The Wade family should give up too to avoid losing everything, even their ancestral property."
"What nonsense are you talking?" Peter was annoyed. "If you don't want to speak, then don't! What nonsense!"
Sophia sneered, "Maxwell, are you jealous seeing Mr. Wade helping us get rich? If you have the ability, why don't you make us rich too?"
Abigail's face turned cold. "Maxwell, please explain why you said that! I hope you're not deliberately embarrassing me in front of Avery and her cousin!"
