It was a good thing Shen Yi was able to dodge on time, or else her shoe would have surely hit him hard on the face.
"Hey! That was dangerous!"
"Call me that again. I will not miss the next time," Lu Xinyi hissed.
Shen Yi ran both of his hands along his face. That was close. He didn’t know that Miss Pancakes could be so feisty.
"Okay. I get it. I will not call you with that name again." Shen Yi promised, but he knew that the nickname would get stuck with her and couldn’t be forgotten. He then took the shoe from the floor and gave it back to her.
"So why did you bring me here? And could you please explain to me why you keep claiming that I am your girlfriend?" she asked when Shen Yi handed back to her the shoe back.
"This may sound ridiculous, but I need your help." Shen Yi looked away while Lu Xinyi waited patiently for him to continue, but he didn’t.
"Cut the crap, and say it. I can’t wait for you forever."
"I haven’t met enough women in my life for my future wife, but you are at least the most honest, and I can say I can tolerate your behavior."
"Oi! What do you mean by that?!"
"I want you to be my wife."
At those words, Lu Xinyi found a lump in her throat. She couldn’t speak a single word in reply.
Wait. What?
Did he just say he wants her as his wife? But why?
Shen Yi’s blunt approach astonished her. She had met several men before, but no one was as shameless and blunt as this man. Most of them just couldn’t wait to take her on a date, or probably on their bed. However, this man, who barely knew her, just popped the question like it wasn’t a big deal.
He was straightforward, and from the look on his face, Lu Xinyi could tell that he was serious. She frowned. While she knew that after this cruise vacation, she’d be coming back to her messy life, did she want to use him as a scapegoat for her problems?
She would be homeless, and most probably, she would have to leave her job, because it would be impossible for her to stay in the same workplace as Meng Jiao. His proposal would surely solve most of the problems, but what would be the catch?
He said he wanted her as his wife. Would that mean she had to perform her wifely duties on him? Her face paled. No, she wasnly ready for that.
Lu Xinyi’s silence bothered Shen Yi. He knew this might be too much for this woman.
"This is crazy," she finally said.
"I know," he paused. "As long as you like me and could accept me, I can be your faithful husband. Even though our marriage is only on paper, I will be faithful only to you."
"But why?"
Shen Yi gave her a questioning look.
"Why do you want to marry me? Why can’t you marry that woman who keeps on stalking us?"
Shen Yi groaned. It was all his family’s fault, but then again, he was the one who kept on refusing women, so the rumors about him being gay started to circulate and hurt his reputation.
"Let’s just say that this will be a convenient affair between the two of us. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours."
"You don’t care about my background?" She refused to believe he would marry a random woman he had just met.
"I always follow my instincts, and I’ve never been wrong when I do."
Lu Xinyi blinked. She had never received any proposals before. This man wasn’t that bad. If she looks at him closely, he’s very handsome. He had perfect features for a man, although his expression was very hard to read at times. He didn’t smile that much, but she found it very charming.
"So... this will be a fake marriage between us?" she asked.
Shen Yi shook his head.
"No. Our marriage will be true in every sense except for our bedroom activities."
Now that he mentioned it, a thought crossed his mind.
"But I don’t mind if you jump on me. I will welcome all harassment from you." Shen Yi said with a grin. He liked it when she pouted. Her cheeks burned in rage like she wanted to smack the smile off of his face at any moment.
"You pervert!" Lu Xinyi was tempted to throw another shoe at him, but decided not to. "Is this how you want to propose to your future wife?"
"But you haven’t said yes."
Now, that’s true. She hasn’t agreed to his proposal, but...
"We shall set some rules if we’re going to get married."
