I glared from my window, staring at Cade while he trekked with that thing at his side, smiling and giggling like children.
I felt my Wolf purr at the sight of the Omega, but I shushed it down. I hated with when he admired that pathetic excuse of a Wolf. It reflected onto my feelings and made me gain a certain admiration for her. It made me feel sick.
Everyone acted so sweet around her, like she was some sort of miracle child. Pathetic. She was nothing more than an abomination whose life was worth little to—
"Jace." A slick, black, reddish male walked into my room, ripped jeans and leather jacket contrasting his edgy look.
Rider. One of the Pack's elite Scouts, Cade's second in command. Once again, not my favorite kind of guy. Emolookskhot-headed, always questioning orders. And that smug face of his... it was sometimes
enough to tick me off and make my hair stand on end.
I growled between my teeth. "What do you want, Rider?"
A silence lingered as his leather boots stepped into my room, breaking into my personal space as always.
"Well, Sir, I just wanted to see how you're doing. You know, considering what's happened." I could feel his smirk burrow into my back with a burning feeling. "What a shame. Such potential wasted into one little female." He was mocking me. Teasing my title, my situation, my lineage, everything about me was being tested with that one phrase.
He walked to my side, gazing at Cade and the Omega through my window. I held another growl when he scoffed. "Huh, seems like Cade was assigned as her bodyguard. Looks like you were
replaced as a priority.
- You didn't answer my question!" I snapped, glaring at this idiot with anger. "What do you want!?
- Ouch, someone's snappy today! I was just trying to be nice to my Alpha." A disgusting grin lifted his cheeks. He always enjoyed it when he made me mad. It was the same since the very beginning. He
always tried to push me to my limits, make me lose control. But I was better than that.
"If you're to waste my time—
- The Scouts came back from their patrol. We've found something we're sure you'd like to see." His tone had completely changed, from teasing to ice-cold and serious.
He may be an idiot, but Rider knew how to be serious when things were needed. At least once, he finished mocking me.
I turned to face him, making sure this wasn't some sort of prank or joke of his. And when I saw his face, I could tell he was serious.
"Show me." The red-haired prick nodded and left my room while I trekked by his side.
He brought me outside and exited through the back door, which opened to the woods. Once he stepped outside, he began to remove his jacket, then his shirt.
"I'd suggest we use our Wolves to reach the area. Unless you want to drag be—"
I had already turned into my Wolf, the fabric of mt clothes ripping into shreds as I took form. Most people wouldn't want to rip their clothes apart, but I already had plenty of outfits back home. And I wasn't
going to let that prick get the last word.
I gave Rider a growl as he took off the rest of his clothes. 'Hurry up.'
He grinned. "Woah, Alpha, didn't think you were that excited to see me back."
I snapped my jaws. 'Don't play cute with me.' And he winked. Why did that guy keep hitting on me!? I'm not gay! And even though I've never known he was for boys or girls, I'd rather not find out at
all.
Finally, Rider changed into his Wolf, and he led me into the forest, towards the territory's border. It didn't take much time to arrive since we were much faster on four paws.
When we arrived at the scene, a mixture of foreign and familiar scents washed over my face. A few pack members have gathered here. I spotted a pure white pelt within the crowd, Zed, and stepped to
his side
What's going on?' I wondered over the link. Zed curled his lips into a snarl.
'R. They've trespassed and killed one of our cattle guedued I gazed at the carcass before me and tilted my head.
That's one of our cattle? Look more like a pile of dead meat to me. Smells like it, too. I sighed. Was I seriously called here for some dead cow!?
What the fu— 'Look, I don't have time for this crap. I've got better things to do than investigate the death of some animal—
'Hold on.' Interrupted the blond female, Nala, while she approached the carcass. 'It's fresh.'
I rolled my eyes. 'We can see that Nala, we aren't blind—
'Sir! It was killed barely an hour ago!' She insisted, blue eyes glaring at me.
That's when I understood her worry. The cattle had been freshly killed an hour before the patrol... it was too perfect to be a coincidence. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
I felt a chill flow down my spine and gazed down, deep in thought. Why would they kill one of our cattle and simply leave it there!? It didn't make any sense... unless.
Shit.
I turned to Zed, the fastest Scout of our group, and growled as I spoke over the link. 'Get to my father and warn him! Rogues ha—'
Bone-chilling howl resonated in the distance, and I instantly recognized my father's call.
