The world tilted on its axis, Nox perking up. In all the days I had spent on this earth, not once had it crossed my mind that I would see that name again, even more so now that my existence was dependent on him. "Do we have her exact location?" I asked Carlos who stood behind me, waiting eagerly for my order. He stepped forward and tapped the screen in front of me, and a map popped onto the screen with a beeping red dot as its focus. "That's her," he said, hope still heavy in his voice. "Call the others" I ordered as I rose from the chair I sat, too quickly, I stumbled almost falling to my knees but raised myself back up using the chair as a support, Carlos moved forward trying to help me but stopped when I shot him a warning stare, I might've been sick but I'll be damned if I'd let him treat me like an old cripp.le "Go!" I growled and immediately he ran out of the room and went to his assignment leaving me alone in the large room with nothing to keep me company but my thought's, I was fucked, I stumbled back unto the chair and rested my back as my free mind began to wonder, War on the arising, Cancer threatening my life and last but not the least Zarah Langdon, my life right now resembled a nightmare only that it wasn't, it was real, my pack is about to face an all-out war, I'm about to face a disease that shouldn't even be able to affect me in the first place and her, the woman I had openly rejected in front of so many eye's, I was about to start thinking up ways to remedy the shit storm I had just entered when Carlos came back with the people I had told him to get. Daniel, Kendra, and Tom walked in with worried looks on their faces. I stared at Carlos, but he avoided eye he had told them about my ailment. ent "Listen up, my problem is to remain my problem, the only ones who know about it are my doctors and the people in this room, I'd like it to remain that way," I said, trying my best to play off this terrifying plague as a mere disturbance. "What do you need, Alp? " Tom said, stepping in front of the rest of them. "We have the location of Zarah Langdon," I said, and immediately, I felt the mood in the room change. "What do we want with that bitch" Daniel hissed, not hiding in the slightest his distaste. "Unfortunately she has something I desperately need" I answered, something felt wrong, I felt my wolf Nox growl when Daniel had called her a bitch, it wasn't the first time he had spoken about her in that manner but for some reason, it now angered him, I would leave that mystery for another time as I had more pressing matters to attend to. "We move to the human sector at first light," I said, and gave out a signal for all of them to disperse, leaving only Carlos and Daniel be.. "Do you think that thing could? Help," Daniel spoke, and again Nox growled, but this time it showed in my eyes as they even for a brief moment changed their color, causing Daniel to take a cautious step backward. "I'm not sure but she's my best,t chance," I replied, dropping a subtle hint for Daniel not to address her like that anymore. He didn't pick up on it, but Carlo, who stood at the corner of the room, didn't miss it. "Hmm, who's gonna keep watch on Howlcreek while you're gone?" Carlos immediately stepped forward and bent a knee. "It'd be the honor of my life to serve in your sight, as my Alpha. A smile curved my lips. He didn't need to do that; he was the one I would have chosen regardless., I walked closer to him and put a palm on his shoulder. "Stan,d" I order, ed and immediately he jumped to his f.et, Daniel peered at him but didn't speak as I walked past him and out of the room. "Get things ready," I said, then turned to Daniel. "Walk with " he followed closely behind me through the empty halls that led up to my room., The walk was quiet, but I could feel Daniel's gaze focused on me all through the walk till I finally got to the door. "Daniel, you're my advisor, or aren't you?" I stood, not turning to address the man I was talking to. "Last I recall my Alpha" "And I see you as more than that; you are my friend, right?" I asked. "I am blessed by your company, my. Alpha," he gave an answer that felt rehearsed. I let out a sigh and finally turned to face him. "Did you know?" I asked. "You will have to be more specific if you were to answer that," He replied, another sentence that felt rehearsed. "That my son isn't mine". Immediately, he heard the words, his eyes wid, and his head shot straight at me. "—What-what do you mean?" He asked, confusion filling his eyes "Don't worry aboutitt" I responded and pushed the door to my room open."Have a good night's rest, we leave first thing tomorrow, to,w" I said, then slammed the door shut, finally allowing myself a moment of peace away from the eyes of my subordinates. I looked around the large room and was swarmed by a feeling of emptiness, I couldn't believe it, she had left me, she left our son and just ran off, was everything she said, all those words she whispered into my ears, all those times, were they nothing but bald-faced lies I thought as I sank into the bed that was once ours. Zarah Langdon, I reminisced. For years that name hadn't crossed my mind and now it was all I could think about, what kind of a woman would she be, just the thought of her and I began feeling two completely different emotions, hate and lust, Lust obviously from Nox, the horny bastard just wanted to get laid. She was probably living in a shelter, putting my pup through hell, unable to provide for him. She would have ended up like her mother: desolate and drunk. It is an apple that rarely ever falls far from the tree. I thought as I sat down on the floor and rested my back against the wooden stand of the bed, how drastically my life had changed within the span of a few days was almost like a fantasy, but I've come to accept it. This wasn't a fantasy; in fact, this painful reality was my reality. I closed my eyes to welcome the warm embrace of slumber and was quickly welcomed by the soft hands as I drifted into sleep. Suddenly, the ringing of my phone slices through the stillness of the silence. I picked up the fall, my heart crashing against my ribs in anticipation. "Any news?" "A plethora," he replied, his voice edged with both excitement and surprise. "We have her location; she is in the human sector, living in the elite quadrant. She goes by Dina Meyers."
