Pei Shu’er laughed, "Sure, in any case, Uncle is no match for me, just a mere woman."
Tang Peilin was so infuriated by Pei Shu’er that he lost his head, raising his hand to strike Pei Shu’er.
Pei Shu’er immediately began to cry, questioning with an innocent and aggrieved look.
"My mother-in-law and Tang Zan have never laid a hand on me. Does Uncle want to hit his niece-in-law? Just because she saved his nephew from a wolf’s mouth?"
Tang Peilin was cornered by Pei Shu’er. If he hit her, it would seem like he was blaming his niece-in-law for saving his nephew.
Others would think he had no regard for his kin, cold-blooded and heartless, unable to distinguish right from wrong.
The people around already stared at him with strange expressions, and others involuntarily distanced themselves from him.
They seemed to think he was not someone worth associating with.
They had just begun their exile. If he were to be isolated, the days to come would be only harder!
Aunt Li suddenly tugged at his sleeve.
She whispered in his ear, "Husband, she’s hiding Silver Coin..."
Prompted by Mrs. Li, Tang Peilin realized this; at the moment, the Silver Coin that Pei Shu’er was hiding felt more critical than Tang Zan she carrying.
Silver Coin was exceptionally precious on the road of exile, improving meals, enhancing conditions, including bribing the officials to show leniency—all relied on Silver Coin.
They had also hidden some, but it was handed over to the Old Madam Tang; if they could obtain the private stash from Pei Shu’er, they would have capital.
He winked at Mrs. Li, who then walked over and raised her hand, smiling at Pei Shu’er.
"Shu’er, the Silver Coin must be handed over."
Pei Shu’er’s gaze sharpened. She had no blood relationship with these people and was all alone, so she naturally had to keep some SilverCoins for herself for survival.
Moreover, now that Aunt L had come to ask for money, it was likely to end in the first house’s pocket.
Pei Shu’er looked helpless, "Aunt, there’s nothing left."
Mrs. Li naturally did not believe it and began to search for her.
Pei Shu’er frowned and took a step back, putting Tang Zan against her back.
Mrs. Li couldn’t help but frown, her voice fierce yet maintaining her elder’s authority.
"Since you’ve become part of the Tang Family, how can you refuse to hand over Silver Coin? This is all life-saving capital."
As she spoke, she signaled to Tang Peilin, who restrained Pei Shu’er, allowing Mrs. Li to start her search.
Pei Shu’er had already transferred the Silver Coin into the space, and she had no intention of letting anyone touch her.
She couldn’t help but turn her gaze to the government officer.
"Lord, I think the wolf pack over there is coming. Don’t let irrelevant people delay the journey."
The government officer in front had already begun to muster the team and happened to be organizing over here, too.
The officer, having already been given a silver coin, lashed out at Mrs. Li and Tang Peilin with a whip, causing the two to grimace in pain.
"Behave yourselves, if you two cause trouble, you’ll go to the end of the line."
Once these words were spoken, the two’s faces turned ashen, as being at the end of the line meant being the first to be sacrificed.
They pleaded for some time to no avail and were instead whipped repeatedly by the government officer to the end of the line.
The Tang Family looked at Tang Zan with concern; of course, they wouldn’t let Pei Shu’er carry Tang Zan.
But the entire journey, everyone took turns carrying Tang Zan; however, running while carrying him was impossible for anyone.
Tang Zan’s fourth uncle coughed and stood out, "I’ll carry him."
His injury was second-degree, and even walking was a problem.
Pei Shu’er shook her head, "I’ll carry him; I won’t fall behind."
The looks in everyone’s eyes grew more peculiar.
Everyone knew Pei Shu’er was pampered and spoiled. Even if Tang Zan was severely injured and emaciated, as a nine-foot-tall man, the weight of his bones remained. How could she carry him?
All of them had been detained in jail for several months, and today they had endured the biting wind traveling from the Capital to the wild outer regions.
The originally robust men were all haggard and exhausted, carrying someone all the more difficult.
How could they outrun the pack of wild wolves?
Let alone Pei Shu’er, a pampered young lady.
Such a selfless and fearless act wouldn’t seem unusual for any woman.
But appearing on the flirty and frivolous Pei Shu’er was impossible.
She wished Tang Zan would just die quickly.
Pei Shu’er took a water pouch from her bundle, but in truth, she fetched a bit from the Spiritual Spring in her space when no one noticed, and then she tilted her head back and drank it.
Instantly, all her bodily fatigue vanished, and her strength increased to eight times what it was, enabling her to carry 400 pounds with ease.
With such physical prowess, carrying an adult was an effortless task.
The exiled prisoners, under the government officer’s command, began to run in haste, while 50 government officers wielded whips on both sides to prevent anyone from attempting to escape.
Pei Shu’er dashed speedily, and at first, everyone didn’t think much of it.
After all, running with someone on your back only becomes increasingly tiring.
Initially, it might seem easy, but the further you go, the more challenging it becomes.
Then one kilometer, two kilometers, three kilometers, four kilometers...
Pei Shu’er was still running swiftly with Tang Zan, consistently in the middle of the line without falling behind.
If it weren’t for fear of drawing too much attention and arousing suspicion among the government officers, Pei Shu’er would have long since outpaced them all.
Meanwhile, some others had already fallen behind, swallowed by the wolves.
Pei Shu’er’s face showed just a slight blush from exertion, and her breathing was only slightly heavier.
It was simply inconceivable. Was this still the same delicate Pei Shu’er?
The government officers, seeing the wolves no longer trailing them and a small patch of dense forest ahead, gave the order.
"Everyone, enter the forest to rest."
At these words, Pei Shu’er’s eyes lit up, and she immediately stopped beside a large tree, securing a spot.
A mutton-chop bearded man from the Tang Family’s collateral line arrived too, looking at Pei Shu’er with greed and covetousness in his eyes.
Tang Peilin had just told him that this woman still had a Silver Coin on her.
He also said this woman was flirtatious and vain, having dallied with the Third Prince after being engaged.
Now that she’d lost her support, who knows, she might even fall in with him.
With this in mind, the bearded man approached with a lecherous grin.
"Young lady, hand over your Silver Coin, and as for this spot, I have my eye on it too."
Pei Shu’er was initially examining Tang Zan’s injuries and paused her actions upon hearing this, then quickly continued to examine Tang Zan’s wounds.
Just as she pulled open Tang Zan’s outer garment, she felt a hand, reeking of sweat, touch her cheek, along with a slimy smile.
"Young lady, your husband is useless now. Come with me; then we can share your Silver Coin. I assure you that in exile, your life will be as pleasurable as a god’s."
Pei Shu’er, caught off guard and harassed, felt a wave of nausea wash over her as goosebumps prickled her skin.
Seeing Pei Shu’er unmoving, the man’s courage grew even bolder as he attempted to embrace Pei Shu’er.
When the man was about to touch her, Pei Shu’er suddenly turned around and punched him in the face.
The man’s face dented instantly, and he staggered back several meters, slamming hard into another tree, coughing up blood.
His cheek hurt so much it didn’t feel like his own, swelling up rapidly.
At this moment, he looked up at Pei Shu’er with surprise and fear.
"You, why did you hit me?"
