Land of the Dragon, Greenveile City, Heavenhill City.
The wedding night.
Inside the bedroom, red candles flickered.
Edmund sat on the bed, watching his wife, Merlot, walk out of the bathroom wrapped in a bath towel.
The bath towel was somewhat short, covering only so much.
Merlot's bare shoulders and a pair of snow-white long legs were incredibly eye-catching.
Added to that, the subtle fragrance emanating from her body made it impossible for Edmund to look away, feeling his mouth dry and his tongue parched.
Just yesterday, he was in Heavenhill City's First Prison, and today, he became the husband of the stunning goddess, Merlot, soon to consummate their marriage.
All of this felt unbelievably surreal.
"Darling, the spring night is short, hurry and come to serve your husband to rest." Edmund couldn't help but urge her.
Merlot glared at Edmund, dragged a folding single bed from the corner of the room, and said coldly, "Starting tonight, you will sleep here."
"What does this mean? On our wedding night, you want to sleep separately from me? Then why did the Conner family go through the trouble of getting me out of prison to marry you?"
Edmund was stunned and said, "Could it be that someone in your family is seriously ill and needs me to bring good luck, not because I am handsome and charming, and you secretly admire me? I am the most handsome guy in Heavenhill City's First Prison, the dream lover of many female prison guards and prisoners. We are already husband and wife, let's not be so reserved..."
"Are you shameless, or just stupid?"
Merlot shot with rage, and she scoffed at Edmund, "Before you were released from prison, the prison warden gave you a copy of our Conner family's agreement. Don't tell me you didn't read it carefully."
Indeed, Edmund hadn't looked closely at the agreement. At the time, he was so excited about the possibility of marrying Heavenhill City's famous beauty, Merlot, and being released from prison, that he immediately signed it.
"What's going on here?" Edmund asked in shock.
"It seems you are also a pitiful fool." Merlot sighed.
Eight days ago, a renowned Taoist master, Mr. Richard, visited the Conner family and declared that she was terminally ill and cursed with bad luck, affecting the family's fortune, with at most half a month to live.
The Conner family had to find a man to marry into the family, and after her death, bury her in a place with good Geomancy and have the man guard her grave for three years to change the family's fortune.
Many men had pursued her in the past, but upon hearing she would die soon and that a funeral would follow the wedding, who would want to be that son-in-law?
Mrs. Conner then remembered Edmund had a marriage arrangement with her, so they got Edmund, who was serving a sentence, out of prison.
"In the past, at the Conner family, I could have whatever I wanted, but now, I'm despised by everyone."
"I agreed to marry you, only for my parents' sake, so that after my death, they wouldn't be driven to desperation by my grandmother and uncle and could have a less difficult life."
"I thought you agreed to marry me, a dying person, to get out of prison early, to gain freedom, and for your sister who needs a kidney transplant. But it turns out, you married into the family cluelessly."
Merlot then said, "We have no feelings for each other, our marriage is merely a temporary arrangement of mutual benefit. Thus, we can only have the name of husband and wife without the actual relationship."
"My sister needs a kidney transplant, how did I not know? What happened to her?" After a moment of confusion, Edmund asked worriedly.
His mother died early, and his father disappeared over a decade ago, leaving only his sister, Brandy, to depend on each other.
Their wedding was rushed and simple, not even notifying his sister. He was taken from prison, brought to this villa, took a bath, changed clothes, and then completed the marriage ceremony.
"She has uremia. You were in prison, what use was there in telling you?"
Merlot said, "As long as you follow the agreement, the Conner family will cover your sister's medical expenses and find a kidney donor as soon as possible. Now, she is hospitalized in Heavenhill City's First Hospital, waiting for surgery as soon as a kidney is available."
Edmund felt somewhat relieved and said, "Darling, this Mr. Richard from must be a scammer. You look radiant and healthy, how could you possibly die soon? We are supposed to grow old together!"
He was still struggling to comprehend this situation.
"Mr. Richard is a person like a real-life immortal, skilled in medicine, fortune-telling, and geomancy. For decades, he has never been wrong. According to his prediction, I have only seven days left to live, and I won't see the sun on the eighth day. Moreover, my parents have already consulted many famous doctors, all of whom say my days are numbered!" Merlot sighed deeply.
"Father, you really messed up. When I was released from prison, I thought you had finally done something right by arranging my marriage with the beautiful Merlot. Now, it seems like I've been tricked."
Edmund lamented in his heart and reluctantly lay down on the folding bed.
Merlot went to sleep on the big bed.
The wedding night, supposed to be filled with joy, was enveloped in a mysterious and eerily quiet atmosphere.
Having a stunningly beautiful wife lying on another bed less than five meters away, not being able to even steal a few glances, let alone a kiss, would make any man feel stifled.
Edmund felt particularly aggrieved, even more uncomfortable than when he was in prison.
He had thought this was a stroke of luck, but the reality was far from it.
He wished Merlot wouldn't have to die in seven days and could be his wife for life.
Moreover, he had no intention of being this kind of son-in-law, suffering indignities. Once he made his fortune, he planned to buy a large villa and marry Merlot in style, which would be the true mark of a winner in life.
Lost in his thoughts and tossing and turning for a long time, he eventually fell asleep.
But in the early hours around 2 AM, he was awakened by the sound of a door opening.
A man around thirty years old, tall and sturdy, entered as if he was coming home, using keys to unlock the door, swaggering in, and even turning on the bedroom's main light.
The bedroom suddenly lit up brightly!
"Milburn, how... how do you have the keys to my house? What... what are you doing?"
Merlot also woke up, staring in horror at the man who had suddenly barged in.
Milburn, the director of marketing at the Dragon-Horse Corporation and one of her suitors, was known for bullying men and domineering over women.
Edmund recognized the intruder immediately and got up from the foldable bed, his eyes turning blood red.
It had been less than a week since he graduated from university last year when his first love, Sherry, gold-digged and fell into Milburn's arms.
He had caught this adulterous couple in a hotel room.
Instead, Milburn had beaten him up, and Sherry had colluded with Milburn to provide false testimony. They hired a lawyer and had him sentenced for intentional assault, leading to a five-year prison term.
He had sworn to avenge this grievance after getting out of prison, and unexpectedly, the opportunity had come now.
Milburn's lustful gaze swept over Merlot's graceful figure, and he said with a faint smile, "The keys, of course, were given by your dear grandma."
"You and Edmund, this poor guy, indeed haven't slept together, but on a wedding night, how can you not consummate the marriage?"
"Accompany me well tonight, and by dawn, the Conner family will become a material supplier for the Dragon-Horse Corporation. Your congenital terminal illness, affecting the Conner family's fortune, has already made you a discard. This is probably your only chance to contribute to the Conner family."
Merlot, wearing only a towel, her skin fairer than snow and her figure curvaceous, was incredibly sexy, stimulating the man.
As for Edmund, he was treated like air.
"You..."
Merlot was so angry she couldn't speak. Milburn's words could very well be true.
For the sake of family interests, Mrs. Conner might indeed do such a thing.
The veins on Edmund's neck bulged, unable to touch this beautiful wife of his, how could he let someone else enjoy her?
Milburn intended to cuckold him right in front of his eyes, who could tolerate this!
"Milburn, don't go too far!"
With old and new hatred boiling inside, Edmund was thoroughly enraged, staring at Milburn like a bull ready to charge.
"Edmund, your first love, Sherry, ran off with me, even helped me get you into prison. Your wife, on your wedding night, won't serve you but has to serve me. We really are fated!"
"But don't get excited. You marrying into the Conner family was just to change their luck, merely a decoration."
"Leaving a beauty like Merlot unused is truly a waste of natural resources. Better let me enjoy her. Just keep quiet tonight, and I won't pursue our past grievances. Afterwards, I'll give you a hundred thousand." Milburn said with a smile to Edmund.
Merlot panicked and glared at Milburn, "If you don't leave now, I'll call for help!"
"It's useless to call! Your parents have been drugged by your grandma. They won't wake up even if there's an earthquake." Milburn said triumphantly, then started to approach Merlot.
This guy was fast. His uncle ran a martial arts gym, and he had practiced to become a skilled martial artist.
He was not half-baked but had actually cultivated real qi, a skilled martial artist.
As Merlot screamed, her towel was already caught by Milburn.
"Merlot, you smell so good!"
Milburn sniffed her body, becoming even more excited.
Merlot clutched her towel tightly, not letting Milburn pull it away.
"Bastard!"
Edmund's eyes turned even redder, and he pounced on Milburn, catching him off guard, and tightly choked him.
Merlot managed to break free but was too scared to know what to do.
"Such a weakling, you think you can stop me? Forgot how I beat you up last year?" Milburn sneered, grabbed Edmund's hand, and threw him across the room.
He was a martial arts master, while Edmund knew nothing of martial arts.
Edmund hit the wall and spat out a large mouthful of blood when he fell.
Milburn walked over, stepping on his head, looking down at him, "Don't take kindness for weakness. Even if I take Merlot right in front of you, what can you do?"
Edmund felt unbearable pain, almost suffocating.
"Run... quickly!"
Yet he still strained to shout to Merlot, knowing he couldn't protect this woman anymore.
The panicked Merlot then ran towards the door.
But just as Merlot reached the door, grabbing the handle to open it, Milburn had already caught up.
Merlot was caught by the scoundrel from behind, thrown onto the large bed.
"Run, my beauty, where can you go tonight?" Milburn sneered, moving closer to the bed while starting to undress.
Edmund was desperate, bleeding from the mouth, which flowed onto a small Bagua pendant hanging around his neck.
This Bagua pendant, very ancient, with its Yin-Yang fish smeared with blood, suddenly began to rotate.
A bright light shone, and the Eight Badge pendant merged into Edmund's forehead, disappearing in an instant.
Edmund's body instantly became scorching hot, as if he was on fire.
