Sebastian immediately rushed into the emergency room upon hearing that Sienna was in critical condition again.
Grace looked at Dante. Just now, he had spoken up in defense, sharply rebuking Sebastian with clear thinking and argumentative words—utterly different from his previous foolish and naive self.
"You've recovered?"
Dante nodded. "Yeah! My mind suddenly became clear when I was at the nurse's station. I don't even know how it happened."
His words were half-true and half-false.
Three years ago, he accidentally acquired the Immortal Medical Tome, an inheritance from a great immortal doctor. The tome primarily consisted of ancient medical texts and various divine skills that the great immortal doctor had mastered throughout his lifetime.
It covered medicine, martial arts, physiognomy, divination, and the vast knowledge accumulated by the immortal doctor from traveling across countless worlds.
After receiving the inheritance, most of Dante's divine consciousness was sealed due to restrictions. He became absorbed in studying the knowledge and appeared to outsiders as a foolish madman.
Only today, after mastering the arts of medicine, physiognomy, and divination from the inheritance and reaching the third level of the Immortal Medical Tome, was he able to break through the restriction.
His divine consciousness returned, and he saw Sienna being sent to the morgue by coincidence. Realizing she could still be saved, he intervened.
But he couldn't explain this to Grace. If he did, he would be sent to a mental hospital.
Grace found his explanation somewhat acceptable. Dante had suffered a major family tragedy, losing both parents in a short time, which led to his mental breakdown.
After three years of treatment and care, it was indeed possible for him to recover.
"But in the morgue, you were…" Grace blushed as she recalled Dante placing his hands on Sienna's chest.
Dante curled his lips. "I was only trying to find out if she could still be saved."
"You're not a doctor. You don't know medicine. How could you act recklessly? You should have called a doctor right away!"
Grace couldn't help but scold him. Now, they were caught up in a legal mess for no reason.
"I'm not a doctor, but I've read several medical books before," Dante lied, thinking that in this world, no one but him could bring the dead back to life.
Grace rolled her eyes. To her, Dante had just gotten lucky. He accidentally discovered that Sienna wasn't dead. Calling it a treatment was nothing but showmanship.
However, given Dante's condition, she didn't argue further.
As they talked, a middle-aged man with a strong presence strode down the corridor, followed by an elderly man with white hair and several burly bodyguards.
"The richest man in Norbia, Thomas Sabey, is here. And the one beside him is the famous doctor, Luke Larkin." Grace frowned.
Seeing how indifferent Dante seemed, she added, "It's fine now that Sienna has been saved, but if she hadn't been, we would have been in serious trouble."
She knew Sebastian too well—he wasn't an academic-type hospital director but a political schemer. He would shift the blame onto her.
"What's there to be afraid of? Let's go home. It has nothing to do with us," Dante said calmly.
Three years ago, he was an ordinary university student. But after spending three years immersed in the medical tome, his mindset had changed.
Thomas confirmed Sienna's location with a nurse and immediately led Luke into the emergency room.
Inside, Sebastian and the other doctors were in chaos.
Sienna's condition was bizarre. Most of her vital signs had returned to normal, but her heart rate was inconsistent, and she was unconscious. It was a perplexing situation.
Seeing Thomas enter, Sebastian quickly stepped forward. "Mr. Thomas."
Thomas ignored him and turned to Luke. "Dr. Luke, I'll have to trouble you."
Luke nodded and stepped forward to examine the patient.
Sebastian and the other doctors recognized Luke. He was a highly esteemed national-level physician—so they all stepped back.
After conducting the examination, Thomas finally turned to Sebastian, his expression filled with anger. "Mr. Sebastian, my daughter is still alive, yet she was sent to the morgue. How do you explain this?"
Sebastian was terrified. He became even more determined to blame someone else and quickly said, "It was all Dr. Grace's fault. She misdiagnosed the patient. I've already suspended her."
"Just suspended? Shouldn't she face legal consequences for such a serious medical malpractice?" Thomas snorted. His fury was as sharp as a blade as if he wouldn't rest until blood was spilled.
At that moment, Thomas received a phone call. His expression darkened further, and he slapped Sebastian across the face after hanging up.
"My daughter was molested in the morgue, and that's how you discovered the misdiagnosis? How is your hospital even run?"
Sebastian saw stars from the slap. He cursed whoever had leaked the information but dared not ask. Instead, he quickly presented his prepared excuse.
"It was that same, Dr. Grace! She brought her mentally ill husband to the hospital, and that's how this accident happened."
"I will immediately instruct the medical and security departments to detain Dr. Grace and her husband and await your decision, Mr. Thomas."
Thomas was furious. "I won't let them off easily!"
Sebastian turned pale. Thomas was the wealthiest man in Norbia, someone with deep connections. Even the director of the health bureau was insignificant compared to him.
He immediately called the head of the medical department, ordering security to detain Grace and Dante.
Meanwhile, Thomas turned his focus back to his daughter. She was one of his only two children, whom he cherished dearly.
Sienna had suffered from depression for years and had attempted suicide multiple times. Last night, her caretaker failed to keep an eye on her, and she slit her wrists again.
When he received the news that she had been hospitalized, he rushed back and even brought a renowned doctor.
Halfway through his journey, he was informed that she had died, nearly causing him to pass out from shock.
Then, just before reaching the hospital, he was told it was a misdiagnosis, sparking a glimmer of hope in him again.
Now, he held his breath, watching Luke expectantly.
But after Luke finished his examination, he frowned deeply and shook his head. "Strange! This is truly strange!"
"Dr. Luke, what's going on?" Thomas asked urgently.
"Thomas, Sienna's condition is extremely unusual. In my fifty years of medical practice, I have never seen anything like it."
"I'm afraid there's nothing more we can do," Luke said regretfully.
"Is there no hope at all?" Thomas pressed on, barely suppressing his grief.
Luke hesitated before saying, "Sienna's symptoms resemble something described in ancient texts—Soul Separation Syndrome. Her heart and kidneys are both severely injured…"
Halfway through, Luke paused, his eyes suddenly lighting up. "Wait! The hospital may have made mistakes, but how could they misdiagnose life and death when there are monitoring instruments?"
Thomas snorted coldly. Sebastian panicked. He clearly remembered that when Sienna arrived by ambulance, she was barely breathing, and she didn't last long in the emergency room.
But after partying too hard with a nurse the night before and feeling dizzy that morning, he was starting to doubt—had he made a mistake?
The doctor had no choice but to put on a brave face and pretend, "Dr. Grace was too negligent. I will rectify this."
"No, what I mean is something must have happened in between that caused Sienna's vital signs to recover." Luke shook his head frantically.
Thomas was a brilliant person and understood immediately.
"Speak! What exactly happened in the morgue? Otherwise, I'll make sure you all rot in prison for the rest of your lives!"
Thomas's piercing gaze swept over every doctor present, exerting immense pressure. Everyone lowered their heads, their hearts pounding wildly.
Very soon, one of the doctors couldn't hold out any longer and recounted everything that had happened in the morgue.
Thomas was furious upon hearing it.
However, Luke clapped his hands and said, "That's it! Hurry, go and bring that young man back! There might still be a chance to save her!"
"He's just a lunatic! You want him to treat the patient?" Sebastian was dumbfounded.
"Bring him here first, then we'll talk!" Luke shouted.
Thomas grabbed Sebastian by the collar and rushed toward the door. "Hurry, take me to find him!"
…
As the two headed toward the hospital entrance, Grace's phone rang.
"Mom, I'm taking him there now. If I send him home first, I won't make it to Uncle's birthday banquet in time."
The call was from Grace's mother, Karina Zimmerman. Hearing the voice over the phone, Dante couldn't help but recall his doubts.
After the sudden upheaval in his family, he unexpectedly inherited the medical tome and became a madman.
Grace's father had said he owned the Casson family, so he took Dante into the Thubron family and even married his daughter to him.
At the time, no one knew if his illness would ever be cured. Even if it could, he was just an orphan.
There were many ways to repay a debt of gratitude, but sacrificing a woman's entire life for it seemed highly unreasonable.
It seemed like it was time to talk with his father-in-law.
Grace hung up the phone. Just as she reached the hospital entrance and turned a corner, a Porsche 718 suddenly sped toward her.
"Ah!"
Grace let out a startled scream and quickly slammed on the brakes. However, the car opposite her showed no intention of slowing down, and with a loud bang, the two vehicles collided.
