Unfortunately, Jonah overestimated himself.
Amelia wasn't someone unfamiliar with the world. In fact, she was very materialistic.
Jonah seemed rich and influential, but could he compare to Kayden? Not to mention, he only had Veil Boutique; the combined wealth of all Veil Boutiques in Jaston couldn't match up to Kayden's fortune.
Choosing between them was a no-brainer.
"Are you done yet? Chattering around me non-stop. Isn't that woman supposed to be with you?" Amelia finally snapped, looking irritated. She glanced at Kayden, but he showed no reaction, leaving her somewhat disappointed.
"Ms. Hunt, I'm the owner of Veil Boutique, so naturally I must serve my customers," Jonah replied, smiling despite his face souring from Amelia's retort.
He mused, "Damn you, woman! Once you're mine, you will pay for this."
At this moment, Amelia's attention was drawn to a silver dress. It was finely crafted and slender, accentuating a woman's graceful figure and exuding elegance and nobility. However, upon seeing the price, Amelia reconsidered—9998 dollars—almost 10 thousand—equivalent to her salary for a few months.
"Ms. Hunt, I can offer you a 30% discount if you like it. Frankly, Veil Boutique never gives out discounts," Jonah quickly interjected, noticing her interest.
"No need." Amelia shook her head, declining. She knew Jonah's intentions clearly, and she wouldn't accept his petty favours with a real wealthy man like Kayden by her side.
"If you like it, I'll buy it for you." Kayden suddenly spoke. He had a good impression of Amelia, and since she accompanied him on his electric bike to shop, buying her a dress wasn't a big deal.
"I-It's too expensive. I don't want you to spend so much," Amelia said, a bit embarrassed. Although she knew Kayden was wealthy, she hadn't treated him well initially, and now he wanted to buy her such an expensive dress.
"Wow! Kayden, are you using the allowance given to you by your wife to support a mistress? Impressive!" Kylee, who had been silent, finally spoke up.
"Oh? Kylee, are you saying this guy is just a pretty boy?" Jonah's eyes lit up, smiling slyly.
"Calling him a pretty boy is flattering. He's just a useless live-in son-in-law," Kylee sneered with disdain. Her voice was loud, drawing the attention of nearby customers, who began pointing and whispering about Kayden and Amelia.
Amelia felt uncomfortable under the scrutiny, saying, "Kayden doesn't need anyone else's money; he has 2 billion!"
"Hahaha! Don't be ridiculous." Kylee laughed so hard she could barely stand, pointing mockingly at Amelia. "You're such a naive fool, getting deceived without realizing it! He's just a worthless man who married in for 3000-dollar marriage gifts."
Amelia was slightly surprised but knew Kayden's card was genuine.
"Wrap up this dress," Kayden instructed a nearby salesperson.
"Wait!" Jonah stopped the salesperson, stepping forward. "You're just a poor man living off others, and you're trying to woo women here?"
"What does it have to do with you?" Kayden replied impatiently. These two had been pestering him, and he was fed up.
Jonah was at a loss for words. Indeed, Kayden's actions were none of his business, but Jonah didn't want Kayden to win over such an exceptional beauty. So he offered, "Ms. Hunt, if you like, I'll give you this dress. How about that?"
Jonah had yet to flash his charming smile when Kayden responded, "You're just an employee, not the owner of Veil Boutique."
Jonah was appalled that a loser like Kayden had dared to mock him. He laughed angrily, his voice cold, "We don't welcome you. Please leave!"
The onlookers were eager to watch the drama unfold, standing by to see what would happen.
"I'd like to see who will be leaving." Kayden chuckled, glancing at Jonah before making a call. "Hello, Uncle Milo, it's me. I'm at Veil Boutique buying clothes, and a store manager named Jonah told me to leave." He hung up the call.
"Oh, drop the act!" Jonah scoffed, amused. "Do you think you're the young scion of the Shaw family?"
Everyone present knew who owned the Veil Boutique.
It belonged to the Shaw family, one of the three major families in Jaston. Even though Kayden shared the same last name, it wasn't the same.
Suddenly, Jonah's phone rang. Seeing the number, he tensed up, cautiously answering. Whatever was said on the other end, Jonah's face soon dripped with sweat, his tone pleading, "Sir, can't you give me another chance?"
After hanging up, Jonah seemed drained of all vitality.
"What happened?" Kylee asked.
"The company said I gave away store items without permission and have been fired." Jonah's eyes were blank.
Seeing Kayden, Jonah's gaze turned vicious, "It's you! Isn't it?"
He was convinced Kayden had secretly reported him to the company, causing the call.
"You brought this upon yourself," Kayden remarked indifferently, ignoring Jonah.
Not only did he have the salesperson wrap up the dress, but he also bought a suit worth 12,000 dollars.
"I'd like to see how long he can keep up this act!" Jonah sneered at Kayden. He no longer had the authority to intervene in the store's affairs but refused to believe Kayden could afford those clothes.
"Sir, the total price of your selected clothing exceeds 20,000 dollars. Could you please pay in advance?" The salesperson couldn't help but speak, noticing Kayden's interest in continuing to shop.
To her, someone dressed so plainly couldn't possibly afford it. Perhaps he was putting on a show, only to leave empty-handed.
"You fool, are you planning to sneak out when we leave?" Kylee laughed heartily, eager to witness the spectacle. "I'll be right here to see if you can afford it."
Kayden looked at Kylee with interest. "If I can afford it, what then?"
This woman had been jumping around like a clown, and Kayden didn't mind teaching her a lesson.
"If you can afford it, I'll apologize to you," Kylee declared, defiant. Even if Ximena was generous, would she really give Kayden a 20,000 dollars allowance?
"I'll pay with a card!" Kayden pulled out his card and tossed it onto the counter.
