Everyone fell silent immediately. Those who dared to enter the Veil Boutique to buy clothes were people of a certain status and naturally recognized the card and understood its significance.
Jonah was startled and muttered, "How could this guy have this card? There must be a film on it."
"Sir, please take your card." The staff handed it back to Kayden Shaw with reverence.
Since the transaction was successful, it meant it was genuine, and Kayden could afford these clothes.
"Alright, apologize. I'm listening," Kayden said, taking the card from the staff and looking at Kylee.
Kylee's expression shifted between ashen and livid. She couldn't bring herself to apologize to Kayden. But with everyone watching, she had no choice but to grit her teeth. "I'm sorry!"
"Louder?"
"I'm sorry!"
Kayden smiled and didn't press her further. At least Kylee kept her word, unlike Blake, who never admitted fault.
...
Everyone watched Kayden and Amelia leave, feeling speechless. The two wore clothes worth 20,000 dollars yet rode away on a 100-dollar e-bike.
It was an unbelievable sight.
Moonlight Hotel was one of the top luxury hotels in Jaston, often used for gatherings and celebrations, with prices that would deter most people.
Ethan Zorn gazed at the nearby hotel, then at his Rolex, and mused, "I wonder how those guys are doing now."
Then, he sneered.
In college, things were far less materialistic; it was all about looks and abilities. Ethan wasn't handsome, so he was repeatedly rejected by girls he liked. Now that he had made money in business, he was determined to flaunt his success at this reunion.
"Hey, isn't that... Kayden?" Ethan spotted someone approaching on an e-bike and squinted for a better look. It was indeed Kayden.
Ethan thought, "This is about to get interesting."
As Kayden got closer, Ethan rolled down his window and smirked. "Well, isn't this our class president? Must've been a tough ride."
He glanced pointedly at Kayden's e-bike, feeling secretly pleased. The man mused, "You were the big shot back in college, and now you can't even afford a car?"
"Nah, it was fine," Kayden chuckled, parking the e-bike as Amelia got off.
Ethan was momentarily stunned. Amelia looked elegant and alluring in her dress. How could such a stunning woman be riding on Kayden's e-bike?
"Isn't that the class belle? Must've been chilly with the wind on the way here." Ethan forced a smile and tapped his Mercedes' steering wheel. "Hop in my Benz. It's warmer."
As he spoke, more classmates arrived.
"Mr. Zorn!" An exaggerated voice called out as someone rushed over to shake Ethan's hand vigorously, "Mr. Zorn, I'm Cody Looske! Remember when we used to play basketball together?"
"Of course I remember!" Ethan laughed, glancing at Kayden.
Back in school, Cody was basically Kayden's sidekick. They did play basketball together, but Cody never apologized for hitting Ethan in the face with the ball. Now, seeing Cody fawning over his Mercedes was immensely satisfying for Ethan.
"Mr. Zorn, you've made it big! That's a Rolex, right? Don't forget to help out me, okay?"
"No problem at all," Ethan replied dismissively, but his eyes followed Kayden and Amelia as they walked into the hotel. He quickly got out of his car to follow them.
"Hey, Mr. Zorn, where are you going?"
Cody had noticed Kayden, too, but he wasn't the naive kid he once was. How could an e-bike compare to even one wheel of Ethan's car?
"Isn't it the class president? Nice suit. Where'd you get it?" Theodore Showyer came over, tugging at Kayden's suit.
Just as Kayden was about to respond, another voice chimed in, "Bought it from a street stall, right? You rode on an e-bike. What kind of suit could you afford?"
Ethan strolled in, flaunting his Mercedes key, making sure everyone saw it.
"What are you talking about? My e-bike is brand new and goes pretty fast," Kayden replied.
"Hahaha!" Ethan bent over, slapping Kayden on the back. He laughed. "Oh, Kayden, you're killing me! As if it could outpace my Mercedes!"
"Ethan, you've hit it big, driving a Mercedes now. Almost caught up to me." Theodore chuckled before his tone shifted, "But Ethan, you're not doing so well, are you?"
He shook his head in mock sympathy. "Aren't you a bit old for an e-bike? Come work for me, and I'll pay you 400 dollars a month!"
Ethan laughed heartily at that remark.
The surrounding classmates, many of whom were once close to Kayden, distanced themselves. After all these years, even with a loan, he should have at least bought a car. He couldn't compare to Ethan and Theodore, but he should be doing better than this.
Kayden didn't care, though, showing up at Moonlight Hotel on an e-bike.
He waved Theodore off dismissively. "No thanks. I'm rich."
After all, Kayden had 2 billion dollars in the bank.
"Yeah, right," Theodore sneered, a mocking glint in his eyes. "If you're so rich, why not treat us to dinner?"
Dining at the Moonlight Hotel could easily cost a few thousand dollars.
"Sure, it's not much," Kayden agreed without hesitation.
Theodore announced, "Attention, everyone! Kayden is treating us today. Eat and drink to your heart's content. Don't hold back!"
"Yeah, don't hold back!"
"Holding back would be an insult to him!"
"Poor Kayden. This meal will probably wipe out his savings."
The classmates joined the ruckus, relieved they wouldn't have to spend their money.
"What kind of family spends 2 billion on a meal?" Kayden muttered under his breath.
Amelia was speechless.
Even though Kayden was covering the bill, few bothered to talk to him during the meal. Most were busy drinking with Theodore and Ethan. They thought Kayden was just putting on a show to save face.
"This fool actually thinks he's rich!" many thought.
Ethan, while socializing with classmates, kept glancing at the ignored Kayden. But seeing Amelia by his side made him uneasy. His envy was palpable.
Yet, because Kayden was treating, Ethan ordered several bottles of expensive wine, each costing a few thousand dollars. He chuckled and said, "Waiter, time to settle the bill!"
