Meanwhile, Peter was still lingering in the luxury watch store. He noticed the saleswoman had entered the office and hadn't come out for a long time, which confused him.
"Hey, have you figured it out yet?" he called out. "Whose watch is it anyway? Could you come out and say something?"
The man was feeling quite frustrated. He began to worry that the saleswoman might be scheming to swipe the watch. Just as he was about to go around the counter and head into the office, the office door opened. It wasn't just the two saleswomen who emerged but also two men in suits.
"Where's my watch?" Peter asked, his confusion evident.
"Your watch?" one of the saleswomen sneered. "I checked, and the owner of this watch is a woman. Besides, you don't seem like the type who could afford it. So tell me, did you find this watch, or did you steal it?"
Her cutting words made Peter's eyes widen in disbelief.
"The watch..."
"Enough! If this watch is yours, show us some proof! If not, come with us, and don't make us use force," one of the suited men said, placing a hand on Peter's shoulder with a mocking smile.
Peter understood the situation perfectly. "Oh, you think I stole the watch? Fine, then why don't you call the owner? If she shows up, everything will be clear."
"What are you thinking?" the saleswoman said coldly, "Do you think you're that important? That she would come here for you?"
"Who says she wouldn't?" Someone walked in from outside at the moment. It was Ella.
Peter turned and met Ella's gaze. Her calm demeanor cracked into a shy smile as she met his gaze.
"Miss, do you have any business here?" the saleswoman asked impatiently, "You two... you aren't partners in crime, are you? Planning to grab the watch back now that you're caught?"
Ella smiled wryly. "Grab? Why would I need to grab something that belongs to me?" With that, she slammed a card down on the table.
Usually, Ella would have Cassandra purchase her favorite items, so the sales staff were unaware of her. This misunderstanding was understandable.
Therefore, before leaving, Ella had deliberately brought out her diamond-encrusted black card.
The saleswoman's eyes widened at the sight of the card, though she still appeared incredulous.
Ella, seemingly anticipating this reaction, casually tossed out her business card.
"Take a good look. I am Ella, the owner of this watch! Now, put my watch down. I don't want your grubby hands on it!"
The saleswoman was left speechless. One of the suited men reacted quickly, stepping forward. "You're Ms. Scurr from Scurr Corporation, right? We're sorry; we were just concerned about your watch being taken or accidentally lost. We meant no harm, and we were just..."
"Exactly!" Ella interrupted, "You meant no harm, but your actions were downright appalling. I can say your behavior even disgraced this brand."
After speaking, Ella threw her black card on the ground and stomped on it with her high heels. This action clearly indicated to the staff that she would no longer purchase anything from this brand.
Clients like Ella, who spend big, need constant attention and feedback. Her outburst certainly made the store manager and the two salespersons nervous. The suited man quickly picked up the card and approached her.
"Ms. Scurr, this is a misunderstanding. On behalf of the store's employees, I apologize to you. I promise this won't happen again, and…"
"Do I need your promises?" Ella retorted coldly, "There are plenty of luxury brands out there. I'm merely giving up one choice. For me, there's no loss."
"But for us…" The store manager was at a loss for words. She was right. The number of wealthy people who could afford top-tier luxury goods was limited. Losing one client was a real loss. But for her, it was just one less option with no real consequence.
"Don't just stand there. Let's go!" Ella said, taking Peter's arm.
At that moment, they finally realized the true identity of the man they had been mocking. Who knew that wealthy people play such games these days? Dressed so simply, they came in, clearly knowing each other well, yet pretended to be strangers investigating each other.
Feeling extremely frustrated, the store manager turned his anger toward the saleswoman in front of him.
...
Of course, Peter wasn't concerned with the saleswoman's fate. He was more curious about the woman beside him, who seemed to have something to say.
But throughout the journey, she hesitated, creating an awkward atmosphere in the car.
Finally, the car stopped by the riverbank. Ella opened the door and got out. Peter followed her, and she suddenly turned to him. "Are you short on money?"
Peter was momentarily taken aback, not understanding what she meant.
"You took the watch I gave you to sell. Are you short on money?" Ella pressed.
Realization dawned on Peter then. He chuckled, realizing the misunderstanding. Just as he was about to explain, Ella's impatience got the better of her.
"If you need money, then help me with something. I'll pay you a monthly daily salary of 10,000 dollars."
"10,000 dollars a day?" The generous offer took Peter aback. That was a dream job for many people.
"Yes, 10,000 dollars a day for a month. But I must warn you, it's dangerous. If you're willing, our partnership can start this very minute!"
Peter chuckled with interest. "Even if I were smuggling drugs, I wouldn't get such a high price. Tell me, what exactly do you want me to do?"
Ella looked at Peter intently. She couldn't deny that now, seeing him clearly, he had a certain charm. Flustered by her own thoughts, she quickly turned away, resting her hands on the riverbank's railing.
With her back to Peter, she hesitated momentarily, biting her lip. "I want you to be my boyfriend—on contract!"
