Wolf King?
The middle-aged man's brows furrowed.
The attitude of the major toward Lorenzo made his heart sink.
A major major, bowing before Lorenzo with utmost respect. How was this possible? Could the major have come here with dozens of jeeps and a two-hundred-man team to welcome Lorenzo upon his release?
The middle-aged man couldn't comprehend it.
"No."
Lorenzo shook his head and said, "You arrived early."
"Oh?"
The major was taken aback.
Lorenzo said in a deep voice, "My identity is classified. Outsiders must not know it. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gone to such great lengths to return to prison three days in advance and then openly walk out."
"Wolf King, my apologies. This is my fault!"
The major seemed to realize something and quickly apologized. Then he glanced at the middle-aged man and the burly men around him, and solemnly said, "Please rest assured, Wolf King. I will take care of everything."
"Alright."
Lorenzo nodded and turned to leave.
"Take them all into custody!"
With a wave of the major's hand, the middle-aged man and his group were immediately detained, loaded onto the jeeps, and driven away as if they had never been there.
Then, the major caught up to Lorenzo and asked, "Wolf King, should we send people to the Joyfield City to eliminate the Santee family?"
"No need."
Lorenzo shook his head and said, "I've retired with injuries. My personal affairs—I will handle them myself."
"Understood."
The major did not insist.
Lorenzo asked, "How is the task I assigned you coming along?"
"Everything is ready."
The major handed Lorenzo a photo and a file, explaining, "This is a photo of the mother and daughter, along with the background information on the Simpson family. The meeting is set for 10 AM today at the Royale Hotel."
"Take me there."
Lorenzo took the photo and the file and entered the major's jeep.
Lorenzo quickly skimmed through the file on the way before his icy gaze fell upon the photo.
As he looked at the mother and daughter embracing in the picture, his cold expression gradually softened, becoming somewhat gentle.
The woman in the photo was Alice Simpson.
She was in the prime of her youth. She was stunningly beautiful, with a graceful figure and the sharp, capable aura typical of a working woman.
She was the woman who suddenly appeared in Lorenzo's bed that night.
Lorenzo didn't have a strong impression of her.
At that time, he had only glanced at her after waking up. Immediately afterward, people from the Santee family barged in, took photos as evidence, and had him arrested for rape.
At first, Lorenzo thought Alice was colluding with the Santee family to frame him.
However, later investigations revealed that Alice was also a victim of that conspiracy.
At least, after waking up, Lorenzo could see her and understand what was happening, but Alice had been drugged and thrown to his bed. When she woke up, she was already back at the Simpson family.
From beginning to end, she had never known of his existence. She had no recollection of that night at all.
She didn't even know why she suddenly became pregnant.
Lorenzo had never expected this, not even in his wildest dreams.
After spending two and a half months in Spring City's Fourth Prison, Lorenzo was secretly transferred to the northern frontlines, where he joined the military. Through bloodshed and countless battles, he distinguished himself, rising to become a renowned general, the Wolf King of the Northern Border.
Now, he had been honorably discharged.
Originally, he had only planned to visit the Simpson family to apologize to Alice. His plans changed when he learned she had given birth to a girl—his daughter.
Therefore, he had asked the major to arrange today's meeting.
"Thank you for your efforts."
Lorenzo's right index finger gently brushed over Alice's fair face in the photo. He took a deep breath, and a glistening tear appeared in the corner of his eye.
"This little girl is adorable."
His tear-streaked eyes narrowed slightly when his finger moved to the four-year-old child in Alice's arms, revealing an incredibly tender smile.
Meanwhile, as Lorenzo was on his way to the Royale Hotel, the banquet hall was filled with guests, laughter, and joy, creating a harmonious atmosphere.
The Simpson family was hosting an engagement banquet for their granddaughter, Alice. The groom-to-be was Lorenzo.
In a private room within the hotel, Alice sat at the dining table with an expressionless face, her teeth clenched tightly. Her eyes were red-rimmed, but she fought desperately to hide her tears.
"Bastards! They're all bastards!"
Alice's mother, Rebecca Lashbrook, held an A4 paper. She was pacing anxiously, stomping her feet angrily, and cursing nonstop. Then, after a moment, she slammed the paper onto the table with a loud smack and roared, "A rapist! And he has violent tendencies! He was imprisoned in Spring City's Fourth Prison! How can Alice marry such a man?"
"They want to ruin Alice! Ruin our whole family! Robert, if you have even a shred of dignity left as a man, demand that old bastard call off this engagement immediately!"
Rebecca became increasingly enraged. Tears were streaming down her face. "If you don't go, I… I will smash my head against the hotel doors and die right here!"
In Spring City, the Simpson family barely ranked as an upper-class family. Their company, the Simpson Group, was worth over a billion and had been founded by Sullivan Simpson.
Sullivan had two sons and a daughter.
His eldest son, Maxwell Simpson, had taken over most of the Simpson Group's businesses. His daughter, Elizabeth Simpson, had married into the Alster City's Zorn family. His youngest son, Robert, had been disabled due to a car accident.
The Simpson family's business was something Robert never dared to compete for, yet Maxwell still refused to leave them alone.
Maxwell orchestrated the engagement banquet.
"Calm down, don't be rash."
Robert held Rebecca back and said, "No matter what, Alice is still his granddaughter. I think… I think he wouldn't be so cruel to Alice."
Even as he said this, Robert didn't believe his words.
But what else could he do?
Slumped in his wheelchair, his face was flushed red. Tears welled in his eyes, his heart bled with rage and resentment, and he wanted nothing more than to resist Sullivan.
However, in the Simpson family, Sullivan's word was law. No one dared to defy him.
To anger him would only make things worse.
"Think?"
Rebecca shoved Robert away and pointed at the A4 paper, screaming through her sobs, "Are you blind? Can't you read the personal details? If we let this rapist, this monster, marry into our family, how will Alice survive?"
"What about Daisy? She's only four years old!"
Rebecca started sobbing.
The A4 paper contained Lorenzo's personal information.
However, after the Santee family cast Lorenzo and his mother out, they erased all records of his connection to the family. As a result, what the Simpson family found was that Lorenzo's parents were deceased. He was a drifter, antisocial, psychologically unstable, and a dangerous individual.
