"This..."
Robert glanced at the A4 paper and hesitated, "Fred sent these documents. Maybe he deliberately sent a fake document to scare us."
Right now, the only thing Robert could do was comfort himself.
Fred Simpson was Maxwell's son and Alice's cousin. It was said that he arranged for someone to investigate the backgrounds of the prisoners in Spring Fourth Prison and ultimately chose Lorenzo.
"I must have been blind back then! How could I have married a useless man like you?"
Rebecca was nearly driven to madness by Robert's self-deception. The more she scolded, the angrier she got, and she burst into tears.
Alice sat there in a daze, silent, as if her soul had left her body. Yet, her body was trembling uncontrollably. Robert saw it and felt unbearable pain. He clenched his lifeless legs tightly, overwhelmed by sorrow.
"Mom, stop it. It's useless."
After a while, Alice took a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and said, "If it's fate, I accept it. It's just an engagement, nothing more."
"Alice, you..."
Rebecca hesitated, her heart aching.
Alice always appeared strong in front of outsiders, but late at night, she would hide in her room and cry silently.
Over time, the scandal of her having a child before marriage had finally started to fade. Life had returned to normal. She had worked at Simpson Group for two years, achieving remarkable success with her outstanding abilities.
And now, at this very moment, she was struck with a devastating blow.
They were pushing Alice to her destruction.
The stronger Alice acted, the more heartbroken Rebecca felt.
"Mom, where is Daisy?"
Alice forced a faint smile and changed the subject. She could still find a reason to smile only when she talked about her daughter.
"She's playing at the hotel entrance."
Rebecca wiped away her tears and sighed, "Daisy is still young. This kind of occasion isn't suitable for her. I'm afraid she will be traumatized."
Alice nodded in agreement.
At that moment, the private room door was suddenly pushed open. Fred appeared at the doorway and scanned the room. When he saw the tear-streaked faces of Alice's family, a smirk appeared on his face. He spoke sarcastically, "Today is my dear cousin's big day, so why are uncle and aunt crying? Are you shedding tears of joy?"
"You!"
Rebecca glared at Fred, gritting her teeth. "Get lost!"
"Aunt Rebecca, why are you so rude?"
Fred held back his laughter, feigning innocence. "I went through so much trouble to find out information from Spring Fourth Prison and picked such an outstanding husband for my cousin. As her matchmaker, shouldn't you be thanking me instead of telling me to get lost?"
A despicable grin spread across his face.
"I'll kill you!"
Rebecca was already furious. She couldn't stand Fred's provocation any longer. Without thinking, she lunged at him, grabbing at his neck, scratching and clawing at him.
"Mom!"
Alice jumped up, trying to stop her, but she was a step too late.
"Get off me!"
Fred forcefully shoved Rebecca away. She lost her balance and stumbled backward, landing hard on the cold floor.
Looking down at Rebecca, gritting her teeth in fury, Fred casually adjusted his tie and smirked. "Grandpa asked me to inform you that your dear fiancé has already been released from prison and is coming here. He wants you three to head to the hotel lobby for the engagement ceremony."
"Fred, you bastard!"
Alice rushed forward to help her mother, glaring at Fred and shouting.
"Bastard?"
Instead of getting angry, Fred's grin widened. With a smug look, he said, "Alice knows me well! That's right, I'm a bastard. So what? If you're unhappy, why don't you bite me?"
"You!"
Alice was filled with murderous rage.
"Be angrier! I love seeing you three hate me but being powerless to do anything about it. Hahaha!"
With a wild, arrogant laugh, Fred turned and left. "Alice, you're so capable, right? You managed to close several major deals for the company. But now that you're marrying a rapist, I'd like to see which business partners will still dare to work with you."
Alice had held back her tears all this time, but she couldn't hold them back at that moment anymore. They spilled down her pale cheeks.
She knew the truth. Due to her outstanding performance at Simpson Group in the past two years, Fred had begun to see her as a threat. He feared Sullivan would notice her talents and see her in a new light. So he stabbed her in the back. He brainwashed Sullivan with vicious words and pushed for this engagement to get rid of Alice as quickly as possible.
Outside Royale Hotel, a military jeep slowly came to a stop. The major glanced at the hotel and asked, "Wolf King, do you need me to deploy troops and surround the entire hotel?"
"They're just a bunch of ants. Why would the Wolf King need to deal with them?"
Lorenzo shook his head.
"Remember, I am officially retired. I am no longer the Wolf King of the Northern Border. This is a personal matter. You don't need to interfere. This is a busy city area. Are you trying to cause mass panic by sending troops in?"
With that, Lorenzo turned and stepped out of the vehicle.
"I..."
The major's face darkened, but his voice remained firm. "Whenever and wherever, all eighty-one members of the Blood Wolf Corps will always follow your lead, Wolf King!"
"Get lost. If I need anything, I'll contact you myself." Without looking back, Lorenzo strode toward the Royale Hotel, waving his hand.
"Yes, sir!"
The major stepped on the gas, and the jeep quickly disappeared down the street.
Luxury cars lined up neatly on both sides of the entrance.
Lorenzo walked toward the hotel entrance. Just as he was about to step inside, he suddenly paused. His ears twitched slightly. He faintly heard the sound of a child's anxious crying. "Get away, you bad people! I want to find my mommy! Let my mommy come and punish you!"
A little girl's voice.
Looking for her mommy?
Lorenzo frowned.
Perhaps because he had just learned that he had a daughter, he was now susceptible to a little girl's voice.
He took a few steps back and followed the sound, looking in the direction it came from.
Eight little boys held hands at the alley corner near the hotel, forming a circle around a small girl. They spun around her while mockingly chanting, "Daisy Simpson, the little bastard! Got a mom but no dad! Grandpa's a crippled wimp. A car crash wrecked his legs! Grandma's an ugly hag, always crying at the market!"
They sang in perfect unison, as if they had rehearsed it beforehand.
Hearing that name, Lorenzo's heart trembled violently, as if struck by a heavy blow. His gaze instantly turned ice-cold, like a frozen abyss.
