"Mr. Fred!"
The driver was waiting outside. When he saw Fred thrown to the ground like a pile of mud, he was so frightened that his soul nearly left his body. He rushed over to help Fred up.
"Get lost!"
Fred did not appreciate the help. He shoved the driver away and gritted his teeth. "Damn you, Alice! You colluded with Jalen to ruin my plans!"
"Just wait. I will make sure you are utterly disgraced!"
As a Simpson, he had never been so humiliated. Jalen's words had ignited all his fury, and he entirely blamed Alice.
Ten minutes ago, Fred had called Alice to brag. Ten minutes later, Jalen turned against him and kicked him out. How could things have changed so suddenly if Alice hadn't secretly interfered?
Besides, Alice was now powerless and in a dire situation. Why would Jalen go against the Simpson family for her sake?
In Fred's mind, there was only one answer. Alice was having an affair with Jalen.
Everything seemed to make sense.
In just two years, Alice had thrived in the Simpson Group, rising to the level of a powerful businesswoman. Her success wasn't due to her business skills but to her ability to seduce men.
"Let's go see Mr. Lockhart!"
Fred turned back and glared at Zorn Group before getting into the black BMW and speeding away.
Meanwhile, at the Zorn Group's CEO's Office, Jalen stood before the massive floor-to-ceiling window, looking down at the black BMW disappearing into the street.
He pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and said respectfully with a smile, "Mr. Dalton, that kid has been beaten up and has already run away."
"Hmm."
A deep male voice came through the phone. "Remember, Alice is not someone you can afford to offend. From now on, no matter what she asks, you must meet her demands at all costs."
"What?"
Jalen was stunned. "At all costs? Mr. Dalton, what is her background? Even you have to show her respect?"
As a Spring City citizen, Jalen knew Alice's background well.
She was nothing more than an unappreciated granddaughter of the Simpson family. She was pregnant before marriage, now married to a convicted rapist, living as a disgrace in the eyes of society.
Previously, when he agreed to cooperate with Alice and Simpson Group, Jalen had ulterior motives. The main reason was that he coveted Alice's beauty and sought a chance to make her his.
But now, Zaire Dalton was telling him that she was untouchable.
How could Jalen not be shocked?
"Not just respect—absolute deference."
Zaire said solemnly, "You have no right to know her background. If you provoke her, the people behind her could destroy you with a single word. You would lose everything—your wealth, your family, your life..."
After a pause, he added, "I'm also in the same boat."
Hearing this, Jalen swallowed hard. His heart pounded violently. A single word? Lose everything? Even Zaire wouldn't be spared?
In his eyes, Zaire was a man of unfathomable power. Jalen owed his entire career to Zaire's support.
If a single word could destroy even Zaire...
How terrifying was Alice's supporter?
"Mr. Dalton, then I..."
As if realizing something, Jalen wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and hesitantly asked, "This morning, I foolishly agreed to sign a contract with Fred. Also, during the negotiations, I had improper thoughts about Alice. I even touched her leg. Will… will that be a problem?"
"Are you courting death?"
Zaire's voice instantly turned icy, filled with killing intent. Even through the phone, Jalen could feel a bone-chilling coldness.
"Mr. Dalton, I was wrong!"
Jalen's legs went weak, and he collapsed onto the floor in front of the window, pleading, "I was blind at the time! I had no idea she had such a powerful background! Mr. Dalton, please, for the sake of all the years I've loyally worked for you, help me get through this! Please show me a way out."
Slap! Slap! Slap!
The sound slaps rang out as Jalen smacked himself hard across the face.
After a moment, Zaire snorted, "You created this mess. You clean it up yourself! Go to Harmony Gardens immediately and beg for forgiveness! Since you dared to touch Ms. Simpson's leg… the hand you used? You don't need it anymore!"
With that, Zaire hung up.
Jalen felt as if he had fallen into an icy abyss.
...
"Dad, everything is going smoothly. Fred called Mr. Zorn, Mr. Lockhart, and Mr. Wallis. They agreed to sign the contracts with him. Right now, Fred has already taken the contracts over."
Maxwell and Fred had split up. Fred went to sign the deals, while Maxwell rushed to report to Sullivan. "If nothing goes wrong, we will have taken all of Alice's top clients by this afternoon. Then, whatever you decide to do with her will be entirely up to you."
"Good, well done."
Sullivan's face remained calm, but he breathed a sigh of relief inwardly. Alice's top clients were crucial to Simpson Group. Securing them would undoubtedly elevate the company to new heights.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have waited until now to make a move against her.
Now, everything was in place.
Retaining the top clients while kicking out Alice. This was a win-win situation.
"Fred is a good child. He takes after me—decisive and shrewd. He has great potential."
Sullivan praised Fred before sighing, "I am getting old. After working hard my whole life, I should step down and enjoy my retirement."
"Dad, you mean...?"
Maxwell's heart skipped a beat. His eyes lit up as he faintly grasped what was coming.
Sullivan replied, "Once this matter is settled, and Simpson Group rises to new heights, I plan to retire officially, step down as chairman, and let you and Fred take over."
Thud!
With excitement, Maxwell dropped to his knees before Sullivan and said fervently, "Dad, rest assured! Fred and I will dedicate ourselves to expanding the Simpson Group, making it bigger and stronger. We will never disappoint you!"
His words were filled with passion.
"Stand up."
Sullivan remained expressionless as he stood up. "I have an appointment with Chief Sabey from the Public Security Bureau at 2 p.m. for golf. While I'm there, I'll bring up the matter of Lorenzo."
"Lorenzo?"
Maxwell was puzzled. "Dad, you mean...?"
"That brat is quite skilled in combat—a potential threat. If he knows his place and is willing to work for me, that's ideal. If not, we'll find a way to send him back to prison."
As Sullivan was about to leave, hurried footsteps sounded in the corridor.
"Dad!"
Fred burst into the office, out of breath.
"Perfect timing."
Maxwell was overjoyed and eagerly asked, "Did you meet Mr. Zorn, Mr. Lockhart, and Mr. Wallis? How did it go? Did you sign the contracts?"
"I..."
Fred's expression was grim. He wanted to tell the truth, but seeing Sullivan there, he swallowed the words, hesitating.
If Sullivan found out he had screwed everything up, the consequences would be unimaginable.
"Speak!"
Maxwell grew impatient. He wanted to slap Fred. Sullivan was about to retire. As long as they secured Alice's top clients, the Simpson Group would be theirs.
What the hell was Fred stalling for?
