"Bastard!"
Alice said coldly, "If nothing else, I'm hanging up."
"Don't."
Fred said smugly, "Alice, guess where I am right now and what I'm doing?"
"I don't care!"
Just as Alice was about to hang up, Fred's voice came again. "Such a buzzkill. Fine, I'll tell you. I just called Mr. Wallis, Mr. Lockhart, and Mr. Zorn. They've already agreed to let me take over from you and continue the cooperation."
"I'm on my way to Zorn Group right now. In ten minutes, I'll be signing the contract with Mr. Zorn in person, then with Mr. Wallis and Mr. Lockhart. I should thank you for all your work in the early stages."
"You plant the tree, I enjoy the shade. A beautiful tale of the business world. Hahaha…"
Alice's face turned ashen.
Her hand trembled, and she almost dropped her phone.
Despicable!
She had expected Fred to not let things slide after Lorenzo disrupted the engagement ceremony, and she had even prepared herself mentally, but she never imagined he would move this fast.
"This was Grandpa's decision. You can't blame me. If you must blame someone, blame your husband for being too impulsive. Attacking someone before Grandpa was like embarrassing him."
Fred laughed, "Without clients and you being kicked out of the company, you guys will have to live on the streets."
After that, he hung up.
Alice stood there stiffly. The tears she had just stopped were about to spill again. The injustice she felt was overwhelming.
Two years of hard work, gone in an instant.
Rebecca and Robert exchanged glances. Their faces equally grim. Just as they were about to comfort Alice, Lorenzo suddenly appeared at the bedroom door and said, "I'm the one who hit them. I'll take care of this."
Everyone was stunned.
Him?
What the hell could he do? Besides fighting, what else could he do? He got his satisfaction from throwing punches but can't bear the consequences of Sullivan's wrath.
Rebecca shot Lorenzo a glare. She was furious but didn't dare to speak out.
"No."
Alice shook her head, her eyes red as she said, "If you go, it'll only worsen things. It's just a job. If I lose it, I can find another. I refuse to believe we won't survive without the Simpson family."
Before Lorenzo could respond, Alice turned and went to the kitchen.
Her resilience made Lorenzo's heart ache.
This wouldn't do at all.
Lorenzo took out his phone and sent a message.
At Zorn Group's main entrance, a black BMW slowly came to a stop.
Fred stepped out, holding a prepared contract in his hand. His face was beaming with confidence, and his expression was filled with excitement.
He hadn't expected to snatch Alice's clients so quickly.
"The clients must have heard about Alice marrying a rapist. They know she's lost her status in the Simpson Group, so they're siding with the stronger party and kicking her while she's down."
Fred thought to himself.
The business world is like a battlefield. Understanding the situation and aligning with power is the key to survival.
"I'm here to see Mr. Zorn."
Fred walked up to the front desk, lifted his chin, and acted arrogant. With a loud snap, he placed the contract on the desk. "Mr. Zorn invited me for tea at noon to sign the contract."
The receptionist was stunned. "Sir, may I ask for your name?"
"I'm Fred."
Fred smiled. "Fred Simpson, General Manager of Simpson Group."
"Fred Simpson?"
The receptionist's expression turned odd. She secretly signaled the security guards across from her. Within seconds, four guards surrounded Fred, two on each side. Without a word, they grabbed his arms and lifted him.
"What are you doing?"
Fred was shocked. He struggled and roared angrily, "I repeat it. I'm the General Manager of the Simpson Group! Mr. Zorn invited me here! Let go of me, you bastards!"
Bang!
Before he could finish cursing, a kick landed on his backside, making him grimace in pain.
"You—!"
Fury exploded within Fred. He turned around, ready to hurl insults, but his expression changed drastically when he saw the person standing behind him.
His voice trembled with disbelief as he spoke, "Mr… Mr. Zorn?"
The one who had kicked him was the owner of Zorn Group, Jalen Zorn.
Jalen's expression was grim.
"Mr. Zorn, what's the meaning of this?"
Fred was utterly confused, not knowing what mistake he had made or how he had offended Jalen. This wasn't how it was supposed to go.
On the phone, Jalen had been polite. Why the sudden change in attitude?
"Screw you!"
Jalen didn't bother explaining. He charged forward and delivered another kick, sending Fred sprawling onto the ground. He sneered, "Trying to set me up? I'll skin you alive!"
"Mr. Zorn, please, don't hit me…"
Fred was almost in tears. He pleaded, "There must be some misunderstanding. Even if I were ten times braver, I wouldn't dare set you up. I came here sincerely to sign the contract."
"Sign my ass!"
Jalen pinned Fred to the ground and rained punches and kicks on him. After half a minute, he stopped and said coldly, "Our contract with Simpson Group is only valid with Alice. If she doesn't come, even if that old bastard Sullivan shows up, it won't change a thing!"
"Alice? This… this…!"
Fred was dumbfounded. "Why?"
"Throw him out!"
Jalen waved his hand dismissively. The four security guards stepped forward, dragged Fred to the entrance, and tossed him out like garbage.
