The boss of Royal Entertainment KTV was Amari.
Noticing how much they were spending, Amari came over to offer them a toast.
Brian and his friends felt honored to have the owner herself come to toast them, and they all downed their drinks.
After making her rounds, she still had some red wine left in her glass. Before leaving, she told the manager to send over a bottle of Lafite 1990, which is going for at least five hundred on the market.
Cadell City wasn't as bustling as big cities like Ninno City or Shanton. Brian and his friends spent over 10,000, making them big spenders here.
Cedric Denford, one of the rich kids, beamed and said, "We owe this to Brian. I heard Amari's got serious connections. She's Cadell City's top dog, Adler's lover. Usually, when I hang out with friends, it's just the manager who comes over. We never get this kind of VIP treatment."
"Adler Showyer? Yeah, I've heard of him. They say he's got both cops and crooks in his pocket. Once, a bureau chief didn't respect him and got fired. He's got serious pull, even at the provincial level," a pretty girl added.
They were just rich kids, not even close to Adler's level.
Adler was who they looked up to, so talking about him got everyone hyped.
"Please, no matter how tough he is, his woman still had to toast us thanks to Brian," Marisa scoffed.
Brian smirked, shooting a challenging look at Liam.
He was still sore about being embarrassed by the sticks earlier.
He raised his glass and said, "So, Liam, enjoying Royal Entertainment KTV? You look kinda lonely. Want me to call over a couple of girls for you?"
"He's from Seapolis. No way our little Cadell City could impress him," Cedric sneered.
Liam frowned, set his glass down on the coffee table with a loud clink, and said with a half-smile, "Brian, you looking for trouble?"
"No way, you're the boss here, Liam. How could I dare mess with you?" Brian shot back sarcastically.
"Alright, enough." Catherine glared at Liam, then turned to Brian.
"Come on, it's Marisa's birthday. Do you have to stir things up?"
"Fine, anything for Catherine," Brian threw his hands up in mock surrender.
Liam's face didn't change, but he was annoyed inside.
After a bit, Cedric's pretty girlfriend was heading to the bathroom.
She'd dressed up mature for the party, rocking a sexy black low-cut mini dress that barely covered her butt, showing off her long, pale legs.
Even though she was only sixteen, she was pretty developed. With her heavy makeup and heels, you'd never guess she was still in high school. She looked both mature and a little innocent.
As she was touching up her makeup in front of the mirror after leaving the bathroom, someone came up and smacked her on the butt, making her yelp.
Cedric just happened to be looking for her and rushed over when he heard her scream.
He saw her getting her hair yanked and slapped around by a fat, middle-aged guy, who was cursing, "You filthy whore, acting all innocent when you're just a hooker! And you dare slap me?"
Cedric's family ran a clothing factory and was worth millions. He knew many people and usually hung out with Brian in the Zenos District.
Nobody dared mess with them. Seeing this, Cedric lost it and kicked the guy to the ground.
"You bastard! You dare mess with my girlfriend? You fat pig!" Cedric kept kicking, making the guy howl in pain.
After Cedric was done, the fat guy got up, pointed at him, and yelled, "Kid, just wait! If you've got guts, tell me your name!"
"Bring it on. My name's Cedric Denford from the Queen Hall. If you've got the balls, come find me."
Feeling pretty satisfied, Cedric took his girlfriend back to Queen Hall.
His friends asked what happened, and Cedric played it cool. "No big deal. I ran into a fat pig from Jenton Province who tried to hit on Cindy. I kicked his ass and he ran away."
Cindy was his new girlfriend. No way he'd let anyone else lay a hand on her.
"Damn, you're a badass," one of his buddies said, giving him a friendly punch, making Cedric even more full of himself.
"Better watch it, though. This isn't our turf. If we piss off the wrong person, we could be in real trouble," said a kid whose dad was a deputy district chief.
Most were from the Zenos District and had all their connections there. Usually, one phone call could solve any problem. But out here in the New District, far from the city center, their families' hands might be tied if something happened.
"Forget it, we're done drinking anyway. Let's go," Catherine said, getting up.
She didn't want to get mixed up in this drama. Being a girl, she knew she'd come out on the losing end no matter what.
"No worries. If it comes to it, we'll call Brian's dad. He owns a five-star hotel and knows everybody," Marisa said, hugging Catherine with pride.
Brian just smiled, obviously proud of his dad's connections.
He raised his glass. "Don't worry, Catherine. There are a bunch of us here. What's there to be afraid of? Let's keep partying."
Everyone else raised their glasses too, and Catherine hesitated, seeing that nobody wanted to leave.
They were a bunch of spoiled rich kids who loved causing trouble.
Liam frowned, suddenly remembering he'd heard about the news in his previous life.
Back then, Cedric pissed off a big shot in Cadell City and got seriously messed up, and it happened right here. Now was his chance to get Catherine out of here before she got dragged into the mess.
He stood up and said, "Catherine, it's getting late. Your mom's waiting for us at home. Let's head back, okay?"
Marisa's face dropped. "What's that supposed to mean? You're taking Catherine away? She's just gonna skip the rest of the birthday party?"
"Yeah, who do you think you are? Why do you get to decide for Catherine?" another girl snapped.
Brian turned, annoyed. "Dude, not cool. What, you're not having fun?"
"Whatever, if you're not happy, you can go. But whether Catherine leaves or not, that's her call."
Brian's words put Catherine on the spot, making her choose between Liam and her friends. Everyone stared at her, including Liam.
Catherine was annoyed but had to pick.
On one side was a stranger, on the other were her childhood friends.
She frowned, then smiled. "Since everyone still wants to hang out, I'll stay."
She turned away, not meeting Liam's eyes. "You go ahead. Just let my mom know, okay?"
Liam didn't matter as much as her best friend.
Marisa gave her a big hug and kissed her cheek. "That's my girl."
She looked at Liam and sneered, "Catherine's made her choice. Why are you still here?"
The whole room laughed, all of them looking at Liam like he was a joke.
Helena tugged on Catherine's sleeve, but Catherine wouldn't budge.
Catherine felt a little guilty, but she knew changing her mind now would only piss off Marisa and Brian. It was better to just get it over with.
Liam just stood there, shaking his head.
Fine, why should he bother if she didn't want to leave?
As he was about to leave, he suddenly felt something and paused, a wry smile on his face.
"When I want to leave, something bad comes up. Guess I'm stuck here now."
"Let's see how they handle this mess." Liam thought.
Meanwhile, the fat, middle-aged man stormed to Royal Entertainment's most luxurious room, the Emperor Hall.
Two big guys in black suits stood at the door. They were shocked to see how rough he looked. "Mr. Jonathan, what happened to you?"
Without answering, Jonathan shoved open the Emperor Hall doors.
The room was vast and well-appointed, with plush carpets, a movable LCD TV wall, and imported Italian leather couches.
The sofas were packed with gorgeous women, way hotter than the hostesses in the main hall.
They were Royal Entertainment's top girls. Some of them were even campus queens from the local college. Amari had reeled them in with cash.
A guy sat front and center in the middle of the room. Behind him stood a row of guys in black suits, circling him. He was the boss here.
The man lounged there, flanked by two beautiful women. One was a stunning woman in a black dress. It was Amari who'd just toasted Brian.
The other was younger, dressed in a white dress with a high slit up to her waist, showing off lots of pale skin. She had light makeup, a frosty look, and was the prettiest.
Amari peeled grapes for the man while his hand rested on the white-dress woman's thigh, stroking her silky stockings. Even though the woman was disgusted, she didn't dare pull away. She knew how scary this guy could be if you crossed him.
When the fat, middle-aged man barged in, the guy looked up, surprised. "Jonathan, what happened to you?"
