Liam maintained a calm demeanor as he remarked, "This is just a little Energy Refining technique, nothing special."
To Liam, it truly wasn't anything to boast about.
Nikolai's cultivation was higher than Liam's, so theoretically, Nikolai could have done it too. However, a martial artist's internal force and a cultivator's true essence are on different levels.
Even though Liam was only at the beginning of Foundation Establishment, he could channel true essence into a flimsy willow leaf, making it as hard as steel. It could fly past Sophia's face and stick right into a tree. But Nikolai's internal force would fizzle out after a few inches. That was the difference.
"To you it might just be a little trick, but to us, it's a Grandmaster move," Nikolai marveled.
Even though Nikolai spent half his life in the military and reached a high rank, he'd always dreamed of mastering martial arts, but his talent was average.
Supreme Grandmasters were rare in a vast place like Chiton.
Even with Nikolai's connections, getting advice from a Grandmaster was almost impossible. Running into such a young Grandmaster now, he couldn't help but feel like he'd wasted half his life.
Liam asked, "So, the Grandmasters can do what I just did?"
"Of course. A Grandmaster in the Transformation Realm is at the top of the martial arts world. They're superhuman. They can send their internal force out and take someone out from more than ten steps away," Nikolai nodded.
Nikolai suddenly frowned, "Wait, sir. Aren't you a Grandmaster? How do you not know this? This is basic stuff in the Martial World."
Liam thought, "To focus the scattered internal energy and use it to attack from a distance, one would probably need to reach the Profound Enlightenment stage. So, these Supreme Grandmasters must be martial artists who've reached Profound Enlightenment."
Judging from what Nikolai said, there aren't many of them around.
Indeed, practicing such rudimentary techniques to break through to the Profound Enlightenment stage would be an extraordinary feat on a planet with depleted spiritual energy like Earth.
Even after hearing that Supreme Grandmasters existed, Liam wasn't fazed.
He was progressing so fast that he figured he'd reach Profound Enlightenment in less than half a year.
Besides using true essence, he could cast spells, something the Grandmasters couldn't even dream of.
Thinking of all this, he shook his head and said, "Honestly, I'm just a Taoist priest. What I did earlier was just Energy Refining. I've never even heard of this internal energy or Grandmaster stuff before. I think you guys might have me confused with someone else."
Nikolai was stumped. He'd heard of oddballs with weird powers, but this move Liam just pulled off was a classic Supreme Grandmaster move. There was no way it could be faked.
Could Liam truly not be a Supreme Grandmaster?
Nikolai decided to stop overthinking it and try to get on Liam's good side.
Regardless of whether Liam was a Grandmaster, his skill alone warranted the respect.
Plus, seeing how young and promising Liam was, Nikolai couldn't help but start thinking of setting Liam up with Sophia.
Suddenly, Nikolai broke into a big smile. "Whether you're a Grandmaster or not doesn't matter. Let's not get hung up on that. I can hear from your accent that you are from Cadell City too?"
"Yeah, I'm from Seapolis. I lived there seventeen years and came to Cadell City for my senior year," Liam said, then added, "My name's Liam Casson."
Nikolai exchanged glances with his granddaughter, realizing they hadn't heard of him.
He turned back, puzzled, "Let's call you Mr. Casson, then. Where's your mentor? Didn't he come to Cadell City with you?"
"My mentor is no longer on this planet," Liam replied.
Verdant was likely exploring some distant star system and wouldn't return to Earth.
Nikolai misunderstood, thinking Liam meant his mentor had passed away. With a sense of empathy, he said, "Life and death are natural. Your mentor must be proud to have taught a disciple like you. I've lived nearly ninety years. I've seen many old comrades pass away. Although I've practiced internal force and lived longer, I never reached the Grandmaster stage. I suppose I won't be long for this world either."
After speaking, Nikolai coughed violently.
"Grandpa," Sophia said, her voice tinged with concern.
Her usually icy demeanor softened, her eyes reddening as she gently patted Nikolai's back.
"It's nothing, just an old ailment," Nikolai waved to his granddaughter.
Observing this, Liam suddenly interjected, "You must have damaged your lungs from overusing your internal energy, right?"
"Mr. Casson, you know medicine, too?" Nikolai was genuinely taken aback.
Sophia's eyes suddenly brightened as she explained eagerly, "My grandpa served in the military when he was young."
"During one battle, he overexerted his not fully mastered internal force to protect his comrades, leading to lung damage. It wasn't treated in time, and later it became a chronic issue. It was an internal injury. It's not fully healed after seeing many renowned traditional medicine practitioners."
"Mr. Casson, since you can discern my grandpa's condition, is there any way to heal him?"
Her eyes, filled with hope, were fixed on Liam.
As Nikolai's granddaughter, Sophia knew the agony he suffered each time the cough struck.
The injury, caused by internal energy, was something modern medicine struggled with, and even traditional medicine had deemed it untreatable after so many years.
Yet, witnessing Liam's extraordinary skills and ability to identify Nikolai's condition with a glance, Sophia couldn't help but hold a glimmer of hope.
"To be frank, Mr. Casson, the Webb family has some influence in Jacksonville. If you can heal my grandpa, we are willing to meet any request you might have," Sophia stated firmly, her gaze unwavering.
Liam pondered momentarily before responding, "Healing this isn't difficult for me. I guess meeting you is fate."
He paused, noting the trio's growing excitement, and continued, "I'll go back to prepare and visit you in a couple of days to treat Mr. Webb. Is that okay?"
"Certainly," Zayn almost leaped with joy, and even Sophia's icy expression thawed into a smile.
Liam glanced at her a couple of times. Indeed, a smile made an ice-cold beauty even more stunning.
"Thank you, Mr. Casson." Nikolai maintained his composure. "Zayn, take note of Mr. Casson's phone number and give him a ride home."
Turning to Liam, he added, "When you're ready, just call Zayn, and he'll pick you up. Also, if you encounter any trouble in Cadell City, please let Zayn know. The Webb family still holds some sway here."
Liam nodded.
Liam returned to the Lakeside Community in Zayn's SUV.
From his keen observation, he recognized the SUV as a high-end Land Rover, costing at least 200,000. Driving such a vehicle in Cadell City was a testament to considerable influence.
But that wasn't the real reason he agreed to treat Nikolai.
Nikolai might speak gently, but he couldn't hide the warrior spirit in him. He must have been in the military and reached a significant rank.
As a child, Liam admired the soldiers. Moreover, since Nikolai practiced internal energy, he was somewhat connected to cultivation. Meeting Nikolai was an opportunity to fulfill a childhood wish.
Arriving at the Lakeside Community, Liam strolled into the neighborhood under Zayn's respectful gaze.
He knew nothing of medicine, but a cultivator's healing method required no acupuncture or massage.
A single spiritual pill could work wonders.
His delay in accepting the task was to prepare some pills.
Moreover, Nikolai's internal energy technique had issues that harmed his lungs. Liam intended to optimize it.
Although Liam hadn't extracted Nikolai's internal energy technique, he saw martial artists' internal energy as an overly simplified version of cultivation techniques.
After a couple of glances, there were no secrets left.
"Sigh, my pocket money is going to lessen again," he lamented at the thought of spending more.
The herbs required for Nikolai's treatment weren't rare, but Liam ordered a batch from a herb store.
Crafting the pill was straightforward. Liam aimed to create the most basic pill from the cultivation realm, the Vitality Pill.
The Vitality Pill was a miraculous pill for boosting life force. It was suitable for any ailment, injury, or weakness, and even extended non-cultivators' lifespan by a few years.
"The small Vitality Pill should suffice for Nikolai's condition. If not, he'll need to buy premium ingredients for me to refine," Liam decided.
He was too busy concocting Nikolai's Vitality Pill for the next few days and optimizing the internal energy technique.
During this time, Leila called several times, inviting him to meals, but he found excuses to decline.
That afternoon, after completing the pills and refining the technique, Liam informed Nikolai that he could visit that evening for the treatment.
When Leila called again, Liam felt he could no longer refuse. After repeatedly turning her down, he didn't want her to think he had any grievances.
