"My dear disciple, you're finally awake?"
Jonah slowly opened his eyes, not sure how long he'd been out. He realized he was lying on the ground and saw Skyler sitting cross-legged nearby, meditating.
For some reason, Jonah noticed Skyler looked a lot weaker, kind of like a wilted plant. His skin was full of wrinkles, nothing like the youthful, healthy look he had before.
"Why do you look like a totally different person?" Jonah asked, hurrying over in confusion. That's when he realized all his pain was gone, and instead he felt light as a feather, clear-headed like never before.
"I've passed all my powers to you, so of course my body has gotten old," Skyler said, gazing at Jonah with affection. "The powers I gave you can cure all kinds of tough illnesses, and your memory now has everything I've learned about medicine in my whole life. You'll figure it out as you go... but the most important thing is..."
At that moment, Skyler suddenly grabbed Jonah's arm tightly. "You can only use these powers for good. If you use them for anything bad, you'll be crippled for life, and not even your own skills will be able to save you. Got it?"
"Whoa, is it really that serious?" Jonah gulped, spooked by Skyler's warning. "So, uh... if I use it to mess with girls, does that count as bad?"
Skyler glared at Jonah, looking totally fed up. "From now on, you're the one and only disciple of the Helwick Sect. It's up to you to make me proud."
"So if I save someone and they ask who taught me, I just say I'm the last disciple of Skyler Helwick from the Helwick Sect?" Jonah laughed, thinking nobody would ever believe that.
Skyler nodded with a smile. "There's one more really important thing. While you're out helping people, you need to find my junior and cure him."
"Your junior?"
Skyler said solemnly. "He disappeared after losing his memory. I haven't been able to find him all these years. Now, it's up to you. Don't forget!"
"What does he look like? How will I recognize him?" Jonah asked, feeling the weight of the task. "If you couldn't find him, how will I?"
"You'll find him when the time is right," Skyler said with a gentle smile. "When you meet him, you'll just know."
"Alright then." Jonah nodded. "I promise you!"
Skyler laughed, clearly satisfied. "Come on, kneel and call me Master already!"
Jonah could feel all the changes in his body and mind, and didn't hesitate. He dropped to his knees and knocked his head to the ground three times. "Mr. Helwick, please accept my three bows!"
"Very good. Heal the world, and take care of yourself."
Jonah looked up and saw Skyler slowly floating up into the sky, getting further and further away, with his last words echoing in Jonah's ears, "If fate allows, I'll wait for you in the Celestial Realm."
"Does it have to be this crazy?" Jonah sighed, feeling a little sad to see his master go. When he looked down, he saw a black-and-white bead sitting where Skyler had been, a bead that looked just like an eyeball.
He figured it must be something Skyler left behind, a keepsake. Without thinking too much, Jonah picked it up and got ready to head down the mountain, but when he turned around, he realized he was standing on top of a huge cliff.
Suddenly, a loud rumble came from far away, and the cliff under his feet started shaking and tilting toward the abyss!
"Oh no... ahhh!" Jonah screamed, then suddenly shot up in bed, waking from the dream.
He looked at his sweat-soaked body and muttered, "So it was just a dream."
But when he saw the bead in his hand, the same one from his dream, he went silent for a long time, trying to wrap his head around it.
Eventually, Jonah just tossed the bead into a drawer and headed to the bathroom. While he was showering, he realized how much his body had changed. He felt totally refreshed and full of energy, like he could lift a car.
After his shower, Jonah headed downstairs and overheard someone talking.
An unfamiliar man's voice was saying, "Can't you guys scrape together ten thousand bucks from your friends and family? Making me deal with payment plans is such a hassle, you know!"
"Yeah, I know... I'm really sorry!" Jonah walked into the living room and saw his dad, Charlie Lyson, bowing in front of a guy dressed in flashy clothes with a thick gold chain around his neck. "Luciano, I really can't borrow that much. We only have one thousand dollars left."
