"What?"
Hearing this, Travis froze.
He remembered that, though his family wasn't well-off, they were at least living a decent, modest life.
His father, Dexter Jauncy, was a factory technician whose monthly pay was enough to keep the family of four well-fed.
His mother, Raven, was a top-notch textile worker, and her paycheck let them live a little better.
But now, everything had changed because of him
"Damn it! This is all my fault!"
Travis smacked himself across the face a few times, blaming himself.
"Travis, stop!"
Lauryn rushed forward, grabbing his arm, her face full of worry. "Can you tell me where you've been all these years? Dad, Mom, and I thought you were already…"
Travis exhaled deeply, looking at Lauryn seriously. "Lauryn, do you want to hear the truth?"
Lauryn nodded hard.
She wanted to know.
She'd been dying to find out what happened when her brother disappeared ten years ago, and what he'd gone through all this time.
Seeing the urgency in his sister's eyes, Travis gave a wry, bitter smile.
"Lauryn, what I'm about to tell you might blow your mind, but I swear it's all true. Do you believe me?"
"I do! Whatever you say, I believe!" Lauryn nodded emphatically.
"Alright, then I'll tell you."
Travis told Lauryn everything about the past ten years, learning cultivation on Azure Mountain.
After listening, Lauryn's expression grew a bit strange. After a while, she gently hugged Travis.
"You must've had a rough time these past years, huh?"
Travis was taken aback, then smiled lightly. "It's not that bad. I get used to it after a while."
But Lauryn's following words shook him.
She cupped his face, all serious, and said, "Don't worry. Once I earn money, I'll take you to the best hospital and get your brain fixed.. I promise!"
Travis, who had been feeling touched, instantly froze.
Wait, did his sister think he was crazy?
"Lauryn, listen, these past ten years..."
"I know you've been off cultivating, but now you're super powerful. Hurry up and eat the mac and cheese before it gets cold."
Before Travis could finish, Lauryn cut him off, scooped mac and cheese out of the pot, and handed it to him.
Looking at the food before him, Travis didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
After all, cultivating immortality was so ethereal.
Anyone would think he was crazy.
It made sense that his sister didn't believe him. He'd have to find a chance to explain it to her later.
"Careful, it's hot. You remember how to use a spoon, right?" Lauryn reminded.
Travis was sure that Lauryn thought he was crazy.
After finishing the mac and cheese, Travis insisted on doing the dishes to prove he wasn't crazy.
Lauryn was a little worried at first, but aside from talking nonsense, Travis was perfectly normal. She finally relaxed.
At least he could take care of himself.
"You can sleep in Mom and Dad's room tonight. When I get back from school tomorrow, I'll buy you some daily necessities," Lauryn said, bringing him a blanket.
Travis took the blanket and nodded.
"Okay, I'll do it myself. You get some sleep. You've got school in the morning."
Lauryn checked the clock. It was almost eleven.
"Good night, Travis!"
"Goodnight!"
Travis nodded.
Just as he was about to head to his parents' room with the blanket, Lauryn suddenly turned and called, "Travis, am I not dreaming?"
Travis stopped in his tracks, his heart aching.
He turned around and gave her a gentle smile. "You're not dreaming. I'm back."
Lauryn stared at him for a moment, then rushed over to give him a quick hug before darting back into her room.
Watching the door close, Travis felt a warm glow in his heart.
He promised that no matter what, he'd never leave his family again.
Back in the bedroom, Travis quickly made the bed and got ready to sleep.
But after so many years living on the mountain, he couldn't immediately fall asleep, so he sat up, crossed his legs, and started meditating.
He practiced a cultivation technique called the Azure Scripture.
According to Alfred, this technique was a supreme, secret technique of the Azure Sect, passed down for millions of years.
Alfred had forced Travis to become his disciple precisely because of this technique.
According to Alfred, only someone with a cultivation body could practice it, even Alfred couldn't.
Alfred claimed he was at the Perfection Realm, just one step away from ascending.
Even Alfred eventually passed away.
But Travis had gone from an ordinary kid to a Nascent Realm Cultivator in just ten years.
The Nascent Realm was one of the main realms on the cultivation path.
The cultivation realms included Energy, Foundation, Golden Core, Nascent, Divine, Union, Perfection, and Tribulation.
Each realm was divided into early, middle, late, and peak stages.
Every time a cultivator broke through a stage, it was a big deal.
Not only did their power increase, but their lifespan also extended.
For example, living to a hundred at Energy Realm was no problem.
Foundation Realm meant the cultivator could live until two hundred years old.
Golden Core and Nascent Realms Cultivator could live for a thousand years.
But now, in this Age of Declining, most cultivators were lucky to reach the Foundation Realm, while Travis had already become a Nascent Realm Cultivator.
He could crush anyone.
With the Azure Scripture running, the whole night flew by.
When Travis finished cultivating the next morning, the sun was already up.
Even after a whole night of cultivation, he didn't feel tired. He felt great.
As a Nascent Realm Cultivator in this era with barely any spiritual energy, just absorbing what was around him wouldn't be enough to advance.
"If I want to break through, I'll have to figure out something else," Travis muttered, letting out a long breath as he got up and walked outside.
But when he got to the living room, he was surprised to see breakfast on the table, with a note beside it.
"I've gone to school. If you get up, remember to heat your breakfast before eating. I'll make something tasty for you when I get home!"
Seeing the neat handwriting, Travis couldn't help but smile.
At the same time, he felt a little guilty. He had forgotten how early high schoolers had to get up.
He promised to make breakfast for Lauryn.
But it was too late. He could only eat the bread and soy milk on the table, even if they were a bit cold.
After he'd finished eating, a thought suddenly struck him.
He frowned and muttered, "Should I go check on Mom and Dad?"
