At that moment, right across the road from the security booth, a bus slowly stopped. "Travis, this is where your dad works. That building over there is the famous Preston Group. Your dad earns three thousand a month. They even cover his meals and give him a place to stay!"
Raven smiled, holding Travis's hand and pointing at the towering building across the street.
Travis looked up at the towering building, feeling a surge of emotion.
It wasn't that he envied the people who owned companies like this. He felt nothing but contempt.
To a Nascent Realm Cultivator like him, a regular company was futile.
If he wanted to, he could rule the whole world.
He was sad that his father, once a skilled technician, was now a security guard.
But when he saw Raven's proud look, he smiled and said, "Don't worry, Mom. One day, I'll buy you a building just like this!"
Raven thought her son was trying to cheer her up, so she nodded and said, "Okay, okay, I'll wait for that day. Let's go see how your dad's doing."
Travis nodded and took his mom's hand as they crossed the street together.
He went straight to the security booth when they got to the building.
But as he got to the door, he heard yelling and swearing coming from inside.
Looking through the glass, he saw the security guards beating someone up.
Travis frowned. Since when did security guards get so bold, beating someone up in broad daylight?
He wasn't planning on getting involved, but needed to see his father, so he knocked on the door.
"Who the hell is it?"
The door swung open, and Caden walked out, holding his hand and muttering curses.
Looking at his hand, Travis asked coolly, "Is Dexter Jauncy working as a security guard here?"
"Dexter Jauncy?"
Caden's face changed for a split second.
He blocked the doorway and said, "Who are you? Why are you looking for him?"
Travis caught the shift in his expression and sensed something was wrong. He glanced inside.
Inside, someone was curled up on the floor.
Even though he could only see half his face, Travis instantly recognized his father.
"Dad!" Travis's expression changed when he saw his father on the ground.
He shoved Caden out of the way and rushed in.
"Dexter!" Raven's face filled with panic, too.
"Stop!" Caden yelled, chasing after them.
"Hey, who are you? Who said you could come in?" Draco and Tony jumped in front to stop Travis.
"Move!"
Without hesitating, Travis swung his hand.
Before they could even scream, Caden, Draco, and Tony exploded into a cloud of blood.
Raven was utterly stunned. Did Travis kill them?
Seeing Dexter lying there covered in blood, she rushed over, panicked.
"Dexter, are you okay?" she cried.
Travis knelt next to his father and checked him.
"Don't worry, Mom. Dad's just passed out. Watch me."
He grabbed Dexter's hand and sent a stream of spiritual energy into him.
A second later, Dexter's eyes snapped open.
He gasped for breath, still clutching the money tightly.
"This money's for my daughter's college. None of you is taking it!"
Seeing the money in Dexter's bloody hand, Travis's heart broke.
What kind of hell had his parents gone through these past ten years?
When Raven saw Dexter wake up, she breathed a huge sigh of relief and hugged him, crying, "Dexter, you scared me! What would I do if something happened to you?"
Dexter froze when he heard her voice, then asked, "Raven, what are you doing here?"
Raven let go of him, wiping her tears. "Dexter, look who's here."
Dexter looked at Travis and said, "Young man, you're…"
But before he could finish, his eyes went wide.
"Travis?!" Dexter finally recognized his son and shouted in disbelief.
"Dad!" Seeing how much older Dexter looked, Travis hugged him tightly.
Realizing it was his son, Dexter started crying tears of joy.
"Travis, you're back?" He cried, hugging Travis tightly.
Travis nodded hard. "Dad, I'm back. You and Mom have been through so much these past years."
Dexter patted his son's back, repeatedly saying, "It's good you're back. It's good you're back…"
Then, Dexter remembered something.
He suddenly pushed Travis away and looked around.
"Where's Caden and the others?"
Raven, who'd just been so touched, suddenly looked worried and glanced at her son.
She had seen Travis kill three people with one slap.
"Dad, those bastards are already dead," Travis said flatly.
He hadn't wanted his parents to see him kill, but he just couldn't take it anymore.
First, his mother and sister were almost assaulted, then his father got beaten up. Who could put up with that?
"W-what? Dead?"
Dexter trembled, staring at his son in disbelief.
"Travis, why did you have to be so impulsive? Yeah, they bullied me, but you killed them. Now you'll have to go to jail!" Dexter said.
Raven said, "Yeah, Travis, maybe you should turn yourself in. Maybe the police will be kind to you."
After all, murder's a serious crime in Solvenzia.
"Turn myself in? For what? Those guys had it coming!" Travis didn't even flinch.
If any government official tried to hurt his parents, he'd kill them too.
He was a Nascent Realm Cultivator. Why would he care about ordinary laws?
It's not like he killed innocent people, only the ones who deserved it.
What was the point of all his training if he couldn't even protect his family?
"Mom, Dad, don't worry. Those three had it coming. If the cops show up, I'll handle it," Travis said.
Seeing how unfazed their son was, Dexter and Raven just shook their heads helplessly.
All they could do was hope things would work out.
"Hurry, they're in here!" As the couple worried, a group suddenly burst in.
Leading them was a young guy in a suit, with a pimply face and slicked-back hair.
As soon as he walked in, he saw Travis' family and frowned. "Where's Caden and the others?"
Dexter was caught off guard by how fast they showed up, stammering in fear.
"I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?" the young man snapped.
He'd rushed over as soon as he heard there was a fight in the security booth.
Caden was his brother-in-law, and with his protection, Caden usually had nothing to worry about.
He was just worried his brother-in-law might go too far this time.
Hearing the guy yell at him, Dexter looked away.
He couldn't tell the man that Caden and the others were dead.
When Dexter didn't know what to say, Travis stood up, looked the guy in the eye, and said calmly, "Don't bother looking. I killed them."
