As soon as Miranda and Jessie saw the Passion Club VIP card, their faces immediately changed.
Everyone in Nytherea knew Passion Club was the most famous men's club in town.
The moment Nash pulled the club card out of Damian's pocket, Damian was scared.
"Nash... y-you're framing me!"
Nash sneered, "Frame? Then what's up with that card in your pocket?"
With that, Nash tossed the club card right at Damian.
"Mrs. Miranda! Jessie, this isn't my card! Please don't listen to him! He's trying to set me up!" Damian blurted.
Jessie, already knowing what kind of person Damian was, replied coldly, "Mr. Pearson, whatever you do has nothing to do with our family. Please, take your gifts and leave. We won't see you out."
Without even looking at Damian, Jessie turned and walked away.
Miranda just sighed, shot Damian a glance, and left too.
Damian never dreamed he'd get busted.
He clenched his fists and glared at Nash's back, looking like he wanted to eat him alive.
...
Nash and Jessie were standing by the road.
"Hey, about earlier... I'm sorry," Jessie suddenly said, glancing at Nash.
Nash said, "Why are you apologizing to me?"
"Damian's been trying to hit on me for a while now…"
"I know!"
"You're not mad?" Jessie looked at him, confused.
"Why would I be? Didn't you say our marriage is just for show? Once the contract's up, we'll get divorced right away," Nash said flatly.
If it was a fake marriage, why should he care who Jessie liked?
Jessie went quiet.
She'd always thought of herself as independent and easygoing.
But for some reason, hearing Nash say that made her feel a little down.
"Have you… Has anything weird happened to you lately?" Jessie asked, looking at Nash.
"No, I'm doing fine."
Nash wasn't about to tell her he wasn't even from Earth.
"Then why do you seem different today? And how did you know Damian went to the Passion Club? How did you know he had the club card in his pocket?"
Jessie gazed at Nash, her eyes full of inquiry.
"Are you suspecting I also went to the Passion Club?"
Nash rolled his eyes.
"Whether you went or not doesn't matter to me. Like you said, this marriage is fake, so who cares?"
Nash felt a headache coming on.
He didn't care what Jessie thought, but being mistaken for a scumbag still sucked.
"Whatever, think what you want!"
Nash couldn't tell her that he wasn't human and that he had a Divine Sense.
"Alright, it's getting late, you should head back," Jessie said as the sky darkened.
"Uh, where am I supposed to go?"
Nash had no idea where he lived.
"Back to your clinic."
Jessie was starting to think Nash was acting weird today.
Clinic? Nash's mind raced, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember where it was.
"Uh… can you take me back to the clinic? It's getting dark, and I'm kinda scared," Nash said.
Jessie was speechless.
"Alright, I'll take you!"
"Thanks, you're a lifesaver," Nash said gratefully.
He was embarrassed that he didn't know where his home was.
Jessie drove Nash back to the clinic.
The car journey was silent, with Jessie not saying another word.
Meanwhile, Nash pondered his current situation.
First, he had a drop-dead gorgeous wife.
Second, he was a live-in son-in-law.
Third, he had a mother-in-law who was a total nightmare.
Fourth, he had a romantic rival.
Fifth, he ran a clinic.
Thinking about all this, Nash couldn't help but feel bad for the original guy.
But feeling sorry didn't change anything.
He still had to figure out what to do next.
Lost in thought, the car finally reached an old residential area on the outskirts of town.
The neighborhood was run-down, with bumpy roads and old buildings everywhere.
The factories nearby meant most of the people living here were migrant workers.
"We're almost there," Jessie said as the car turned a corner.
Nash looked out the window at the low, shabby houses and the messy crowds. He frowned.
"I live here? Man, this place is a dump!"
Jessie shot him a weird look.
Nash felt seriously annoyed.
Soon, the car came to a stop in front of a small storefront with a metal rolling door.
"We're here," Jessie announced, stopping the car.
Nash stuck his head out and took a look.
He almost wanted to cry.
"Seriously? I live in this dump?"
With a sigh, Nash got out of the car.
The shop before him was his clinic.
There was a dusty old sign above the door that said: Harmony Clinic.
"Alright, it's late. Rest well," Jessie said, then took out 300 bucks from her purse and handed it to Nash.
Nash grabbed the cash without a second thought.
"I'm off," Jessie said, ready to drive away.
"Wait!"
Jessie turned around. "What now?"
"I just want to make one thing clear," Nash said, dead serious.
"What?"
"I swear, I never went to any shady clubs. Do you believe me?"
"Yeah, I believe you," Jessie replied right away.
Nash felt a bit uneasy about how quickly she answered.
"Alright then, I'm heading in. See you."
With that, Jessie got in her car and drove off.
Watching Jessie drive away, Nash turned back to his clinic.
"So this is my home now? Seriously?"
Night had fallen.
Dogs barked from both sides of the street, and passersby bustled around.
Nash stood at the door of his tiny clinic, looking around, not because he cared about the place, but because there was a big padlock on the metal door.
He didn't have the key.
"Screw it!"
Nash kicked the metal door, which popped open with a bang.
The flimsy door gave way with a loud crack, and Nash walked inside.
