Miranda never thought that the son-in-law she'd always pushed around would suddenly stand up to her.
She was caught off guard.
"What's wrong?"
"Mom, what happened?"
Upstairs, Jessie heard the noise and rushed down.
When she saw the spilled food and broken dishes all over the floor, she froze.
Miranda's face went white.
As soon as she saw Jessie come down, she started yelling.
"Jessie, look at this jerk! He knocked over all the food I made!"
"You have to kick him out right now!"
"No way is he staying here today!"
Jessie frowned and shot a look at Nash.
Nash sat back on the couch with his legs crossed and said, "You think it's that easy to kick me out?"
"I may be the son-in-law, but this is still my house!"
"What a lowlife!"
"Jessie, look at him! This bastard dares to act shamelessly!"
Miranda was furious.
Nash chuckled and said, "How am I shameless? Did I marry your daughter or not?"
"So what if you did?" Miranda replied.
"Since we're married, doesn't that make this joint property?"
"Yes!"
"So, doesn't that mean I own part of this house?"
"No!"
What?
Wasn't this house his and Jessie's?
He turned to look at Jessie, arms folded across her chest.
Jessie nodded, "My mom's right. This house is hers."
Nash's heart sank when he heard that.
He shot up from the couch.
Miranda jabbed her finger at Nash and started cursing him out.
"Useless bastard, do you know whose house this is now?"
"Get out!"
"Get out of my house now, or I'll call the police!"
Nash clenched his fists, about to fight back.
"Fine, I'll go!"
He shot back one last line and stomped out the door.
Jessie watched Nash march out, let out a sigh, and followed him outside.
Miranda kept cursing him out from inside the house.
As Nash stepped out into the yard, he suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"Hold on a second!"
"If I'm not living here, then where the hell am I supposed to go?"
Just as he was about to turn and ask Jessie where he was supposed to stay, an SUV pulled up to the gate, and a guy in his thirties stepped out.
He was dressed in a suit, wore gold-rimmed glasses, and was almost bald on top.
Carrying two boxes of fancy mooncakes, he smiled as he got out. "Mrs. Miranda, Jessie!"
"Oh, Damian, you're here!"
"Long time no see!"
Miranda's face lit up when she saw him.
The man was Damian Pearson, sales manager at Soaring Real Estate in Nytherea.
His company developed the place where they lived.
Ever since he met Jessie six months ago, Damian had been after her.
"What are you doing here?" Jessie asked, giving Damian a cold look.
"I just happened to be passing by and thought I'd stop in to see you and your parents. I'm not interrupting, am I?" Damian said quickly.
"Not at all!"
"Damian, about those tea leaves you gave my husband last time. He still wants to thank you for it!"
"Since you're here, why don't you stay and celebrate with us? Jessie's here too!" Miranda said cheerfully.
"Mom, Mr. Pearson probably has his family," Jessie said coolly.
"It's fine. I'm single anyway," Damian replied with a smile.
Nash could tell Damian had been looking at Jessie since he arrived, even if he tried to play it cool.
But Nash could sense that unspoken competition between guys.
Damian was here to make a move on his wife.
As Nash pondered this, Damian's gaze fell on him.
"Nash?"
"Hi!" Nash kept a polite smile on, pretending to be friendly.
"Nash, weren't you in the detention center? How did you get out?" Damian asked in surprise.
At that, Jessie's face fell, and Miranda went pale.
"What detention center?"
"Damian, what are you talking about?" Miranda asked, eyes wide.
Nash's heart sank. This bastard was trying to set him up.
"Mrs. Miranda, you didn't know? Nash got busted for streaking in public and ended up in the detention center," Damian explained.
Miranda nearly fainted upon hearing this.
"Yeah, I was at the police station for something else and happened to see Nash locked up in the detention center. Out of curiosity, I asked around and found out he was caught streaking in broad daylight and ended up in the detention center," Damian continued.
Then he turned to Nash, "Nash, you didn't tell Mrs. Miranda?"
Miranda exploded upon hearing this
"Nash, you idiot, you got locked up in the detention center?"
"My God! What is wrong with you?"
"You've embarrassed the Ryder family!"
"You eat our food, live under our roof, and still have the nerve to get thrown in the detention center? Where's your conscience?"
As Miranda scolded, Damian smirked.
Nash wasn't stupid. He knew precisely what this jerk was trying to pull.
Jessie's face turned ashen.
She had hoped to keep this incident under wraps, but Damian had spilled the beans.
How did he know?
"Yeah, I just got out of the detention center. So what?" Nash said, stepping up.
"You dare to say that?" Miranda wailed.
"Oh, what did the Ryder family ever do to deserve a son-in-law like you!" Miranda wailed.
"Oh, give me a break!"
"First, I was arrested because I just got here!"
"Second, do you guys buy what this jerk is saying?" Nash said, pointing at Damian.
"Nash, how can you insult me? Am I wrong?" Damian asked.
"So what? You want to go after my wife, and I let that slide!"
"But trying to mess with me? That's where I draw the line!"
"You think I'm easy to bully?"
"Listen up, Damian, when it comes to being shameless, you're just as bad as me!"
Damian, enraged, retorted, "You, you liar!"
"Me, a liar?"
"You got dark circles, sallow skin, and those weird eyes. You look like you've got kidney problems!"
"Moreover, you have this!"
Suddenly, Nash lunged forward, and in a flash, he pulled a card out of Damian's left pocket.
"Whoa, a VIP card for the Passion Club!"
Nash waved the card in the air, grinning.
Damian's face nearly twisted out of shape.
"How did he know I had a Passion Club card in my pocket?" Damian thought.
