In the end, Nash's very first business deal was cut short when Remy's wife threatened them with a kitchen knife.
Remy received a fierce scolding from his wife and returned to his shop.
Nash just sat there on his bench, waiting for business that never came.
Before he knew it, the whole day had passed, and, of course, not a single customer had shown up.
"No worries."
Nash hyped himself up.
The second day arrived, with the same results.
Nash decided to change his sales strategy.
He reduced the price of the Energy Tonic and Body Strengthening Tonic to just 50 bucks each.
"I'm selling these for half the price. How could they not buy? These are Peerless Miracle Medicines!"
The sun was still shining, the crowds were still there, but the number of people coming into Nash's clinic was zero.
"Am I still charging too much?" he wondered.
"Or maybe the names just aren't cool enough," Nash mulled it over, but by the end of the day, nothing had changed.
On day three, Nash changed the name from Peerless Miracle Medicine to Miracle Medicine, and dropped the price of the tonics to 20 bucks.
But still, nothing changed.
Nash felt empty as the darkness outside.
He kicked the wooden sign outside his clinic in frustration.
"Screw this!"
"I'm done!"
Nash fumed, his anger boiling over.
"I'm the Medicine King! Why won't anyone buy my Miracle Medicines? My medicine can cure the sick and make regular people stronger. So why won't anyone buy it?"
Still fuming, Nash stared up at the stars, suddenly missing the Dragon Continent.
Life on Earth was way tougher than he thought.
Just then, he heard the sharp click of high heels on the pavement.
He looked up and saw a pair of slender legs in leopard-print heels.
Nash looked up and saw a sultry woman with big, wavy hair, bright red lipstick, and a cigarette hanging from her lips, standing right in front of him.
She looked to be in her twenties, with heavy makeup and skin so pale it almost glowed in the dark.
Her eyes locked onto Nash as she walked over.
Was she a customer?
"Haha! Maybe my luck's turning around after all!"
Nash perked up as soon as he saw her.
"Hey there, gorgeous!"
The woman grinned and blew out a smoke ring.
"Hey, handsome!"
"You're my first customer in three days!" Nash said, almost tripping over himself.
"Come on in, whatever you buy today, I'll give you a discount!"
Nash was sure she was his lucky charm.
If he could make this first sale, the rest would be a breeze.
The woman giggled but didn't go inside.
Instead, she leaned against the doorframe, giving Nash a once-over.
"Don't you recognize me, handsome? I'm Lily from the salon next door."
"Oh, Lily! Sorry, it's dark, I didn't recognize you."
"So, what brings you by tonight? Looking for some medicine?"
Nash jumped right into his sales pitch.
"I've got Energy Tonic and Body Strengthening Tonic."
Lily just stood there smiling.
"Handsome, I'm not here to buy medicine."
"So… why are you here?" Nash's hopes deflated.
Lily put out her cigarette, giving Nash a flirty look.
"It's late, and I just wanted to find someone cute to talk to."
"Don't you think these long nights get lonely?"
"How about you come over to my salon? I can give you the full service to help you relax."
Nash blinked. "What's that?"
"You can go for the half or the full package. Since we're neighbors, I'll even give you 20% off!" Lily said.
Nash's face fell.
Lily wasn't here to buy medicine.
"Get lost!"
"I haven't had a single customer in three days, and now you want to sell me something?" Nash snapped.
Lily shot back, "What's wrong with me doing business with you? Have you looked at this dump? You think you can sell medicine? You're out of your mind!"
Nash yelled back, totally embarrassed, and they ended up yelling at each other until Lily stormed off.
"Damn it!"
"I can't stand this place!"
"I haven't sold a single tonic!"
"These damn mortals! Can't they tell I'm selling Peerless Miracle Medicines?"
Back in his clinic, Nash was seething. He couldn't believe it.
He used to be the Medicine King.
Everyone, from immortal beauties to prodigies, would beg him to make pills for them.
Now? He couldn't even give his medicine away. What a joke!
He'd pictured himself coming back as an Immortal Doctor, raking in cash and surrounded by beautiful women.
But now? Things were not going as planned.
Nash felt depressed.
On the fourth day, he still didn't sell a single bottle.
Nash felt so frustrated he almost wanted to cry.
He just sat there on his stool by the door, staring up at the sky, speechless.
"Hey Nash, you look like you've got something on your mind. Wanna talk about it?"
It was Remy. It wasn't mealtime, so Remy had some free time.
He grabbed a cigarette from behind his ear, popped it in his mouth, lit up, and took a drag.
"Remy, got a cigarette?" Nash asked.
"Didn't you quit?" Remy shot back, surprised.
"Guess I'm back on it," Nash shrugged.
Remy laughed, pulled out a crumpled pack of cheap cigarettes, and handed Nash one.
Nash stuck it in his mouth and lit up.
The harsh smoke burned his throat, making him cough like crazy.
Remy couldn't help but notice that Nash looked like he had smoked for the first time.
"Nash, looks like your latest promotions didn't work out, huh?" Remy said, taking a drag.
"Sigh, it's a long story," Nash said, puffing on his cigarette.
"Don't worry about it, man. One step at a time. No need to rush," Remy said, giving Nash a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
"Remy, how come my clinic's doing so bad? It just doesn't make sense!" Nash said, scratching his head.
He figured that even the worst clinic should be able to get at least one patient.
"What are you stressing about? It's only been four days. You used to go a whole month without a single customer, and the clinic's still here, isn't it?" Remy replied.
"Hang in there, just take it slow. Your medical skills might not be top-notch, but at least you've got a good heart," Remy said with a grin, finishing his cigarette with Nash before heading back.
