"Me? I'm not good enough for her."
Pierce glanced at Nancy, shaking his head with a wry smile.
His parents liked Nancy, and her standing up for him just now made him feel even more grateful. But with his background, he figured it was better not to drag Nancy into his mess.
"This is my classmate, Nancy. She's the prettiest girl in our class," Pierce quickly introduced.
"Nancy, this is Kailey Hill."
"Hi." Nancy smiled gently, though she couldn't hide the disappointment in her eyes.
"Since we bumped into each other, why don't you join us?" Kailey invited.
"No, thank you," Nancy declined with a smile.
"I have guests at home tonight, so I'll head off."
She waved goodbye and walked off, her figure looking a bit lonely.
"Pierce, can't you tell she likes you?" Kailey said with a teasing smile as she watched Nancy's departure.
Pierce didn't answer, just frowned a little and followed Kailey into Lotus Hall.
Lotus Hall was much bigger than Daisy Hall, and the furniture inside was even fancier.
There was a middle-aged man already sitting inside.
"Dad, this is Pierce Jackson. He's the one who saved Grandpa yesterday."
"Pierce Jackson, nice to meet you. I'm Edgar Hill."
Edgar stood up warmly to shake Pierce's hand.
"Thank you for saving my father."
"No need to thank me, Mr. Hill. As a doctor, I couldn't just watch and do nothing. Besides, you guys already paid me," Pierce replied with a slight shake of his head.
"Come on, have a seat. Let's eat and chat," Edgar said, a look of respect in his eyes.
He liked how straightforward and easygoing Pierce was.
"Kailey, tell the waiter to serve the food and bring over two bottles of my good wine."
"Okay."
Soon, the table was filled with dishes. The first toast was all about thanking Pierce for saving Patrick.
After that, the conversation turned casual.
"Pierce, my father said you're an amazing doctor. I just got back from a trip and haven't been feeling great. Mind taking a look at me?"
Edgar twisted his neck, pretending to be frustrated.
"I can't quite tell what's wrong."
"No need to check. You've got insomnia," Pierce replied.
He knew Edgar was testing him, considering the circumstances.
After all, the Hill family had paid a lot to save Patrick, so they wanted to see if he was a Miracle Doctor.
"Insomnia? How did you know that?" Edgar looked genuinely shocked.
"I'm a doctor," Pierce replied, meeting Edgar's gaze. ]\
"Plus, you've been overseas for at least half a year, and you're still jet-lagged."
"It's nothing serious. Don't sleep during the day, or take some sleeping pills at night. You'll adjust in a few days."
"Incredible!" Edgar gave Pierce a thumbs-up.
"It's like you saw it with your own eyes! You got X-ray vision?"
"Dad, X-ray vision wouldn't tell you about a trip overseas six months ago," Kailey added, just as amazed.
Pierce didn't even take Edgar's pulse or ask any questions, but he still figured out what was wrong.
"Pierce, can you check on me, too? Do I have anything wrong with me?" Kailey asked, leaning in with interest.
"You? There's nothing wrong with you." Pierce looked Kailey up and down.
"Are you sure?" Kailey asked.
"Do I have to say it here?" Pierce raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean? Is it something I shouldn't hear?" Edgar sensed something was up, glancing nervously between Pierce and Kailey.
"Kailey, are you sick?"
"I... I'm not sick." Kailey bit her lip, staring at Pierce.
No way he could figure out what was wrong with her.
This was only their third time meeting. Even if he had X-ray vision, it wouldn't help. Even hospital scans hadn't found anything.
Kailey was skeptical.
"If your daughter doesn't want to hear it, I won't say a word," Pierce shrugged.
Patients have their privacy.
"A good doctor doesn't go knocking on doors."
"Kailey, what's wrong with you?" Edgar was anxious.
Kailey ignored him, focusing on Pierce.
"Pierce, go ahead. If you're right, I'll admit you're impressive."
"You want me to say it?"
"Yes!"
"Not afraid of embarrassment?"
"Not at all!"
Kailey shook her head, but Edgar tensed up again.
Could his daughter have secretly gotten a boyfriend and ended up pregnant?
"Kailey, you… You're not pregnant, are you?" Edgar looked worriedly at his daughter's belly.
"Dad, what nonsense are you talking about?"
Kailey's face turned crimson, and she glared at her father, both angry and embarrassed.
"Pierce, please go ahead, or my dad will think I'm having a baby."
"I've already said it. There's nothing wrong with you."
Pierce leisurely enjoyed his meal and drink, wiped his mouth, then lit a cigarette and took a deep drag as he watched the two still puzzled.
"You've got no hair syndrome," Pierce replied.
Kailey's face went pale. He was accurate.
"No hair syndrome?" Edgar was baffled.
Wasn't that just something people joke about online?
"Yeah, your daughter doesn't have a single hair on her body, from head to toe. She's wearing a wig."
"Stop, that's enough! I believe you!" Kailey cut him off, clearly overwhelmed.
She had the height, the looks, and the family background, but she couldn't grow a single strand of hair.
She was too embarrassed to go to the sauna with friends, too shy to swim.
Wigs were easy to lose and couldn't be worn for long, especially in the summer when they caused rashes.
"Wait! How did I not know about this? How could Kailey have no hair and I never noticed?" Edgar was stunned all over again.
Pierce just rolled his eyes. Edgar wasn't attentive to his daughter.
"Pierce, please, you have to help me. I want to grow hair."
Kailey looked at Pierce with hopeful eyes.
"I can help, but the treatment might be a little…"
"Difficult?"
"No, just… embarrassing."
"Embarrassing?" Kailey furrowed her brow.
"What do you mean?"
"You'll have to take off all your clothes."
