"You're easy on the eyes, Melissa, but I'd rather watch your brother cultivate."
Melissa gave an awkward smile.
"We have to trust science. How could there be immortals in this world? If you don't believe me, I'll call my brother over and you can ask him yourselves."
She rose and went to find Caspian, who had already returned to his bedroom.
"Bro, come here a sec!"
Caspian moved in a blur. Before Melissa could even register it, he was already in front of the computer.
The chat blew up.
[???]
[Nice!]
[Show-off alert! If my eyes didn't deceive me, did Melissa's brother cross from the bedroom to the living room in a single second?]
[Don't tell me this is another magic trick!]
[Melissa, come out and explain!]
Melissa watched the live comments pour in, beads of sweat pricking along her hairline.
What on earth was happening?
How on earth was she supposed to explain it?
She laughed it off. "Okay, my brother's here. You can ask him whether immortals actually exist."
She turned to Caspian. "So, do immortals exist in this world?"
Caspian's face went solemn. "Nonsense! How could there be immortals? You should all believe in science."
"There are still people who believe immortals exist? That's just foolish."
The viewers were speechless.
[No way. Melissa's brother, a hardcore cultivation fan, doesn't believe immortals exist?]
[I'm dead. Contact me via Ouija, thanks.]
Caspian finished, then glanced at Melissa.
"Melissa, anything else?"
Melissa shook her head, dazed. "No, Caspian."
"Then I'll head back to my room. Call me if you need me."
Right in front of everyone, Caspian vanished in a blur, his whole body disappearing from the audience's view.
[Whoa!]
[I'm into it. Who says a man can't be too fast? At this speed, even the Olympic athletes wouldn't keep up!]
[You kidding me? How could an athlete compete with Melissa's brother?]
[Streamer, take the camera to your brother's room. Let's see what he's doing. Is he brewing elixirs?]
[Hurry up! Move the camera!]
Melissa's stream had never pulled views like this.
Even she was a little stunned.
The income from virtual gifts alone had topped $1,000.
She picked up the camera and walked to Caspian's room.
She knocked. "Caspian, are you in there?"
"I'm dealing with something. I'll come find you in a minute. What's up?"
Caspian's voice drifted from inside, though it sounded a little off.
Melissa glanced at the stream.
The audience urged her to go back.
[Head back, Melissa. We all know what your brother is doing.]
[An immortal wouldn't be doing that.]
[We believe you now, Melissa. Your brother's just a regular guy, not some immortal.]
[Honestly, being mortal has perks. Only mortals savor worldly pleasures.]
Melissa stared at the live comments, baffled.
"Wait, you were just saying my brother was cultivating, and now you call him a mortal. Which is it?"
[Hehe, Melissa's innocent.]
[Old Filthy Goblin sent the streamer a Super Rocket Gift ×1.]
[Melissa, you might want to restock the tissues in your brother's room. He may run out tonight.]
She wasn't naive. She knew exactly what they meant.
Her cheeks flushed hot as she spoke sharply.
"That's enough. Keep that up and my stream is going to get banned!"
Then another thought flickered.
Was her brother relieving himself?
She glanced at the closed door, hurried back to her seat, clicked open a game, and queued for a ranked match.
She played, but her mind wandered.
The previous night, she had a fever with a skull-splitting headache.
Just now, her palm had been scalded, blisters formed.
Yet, after she swallowed the pale yellow pill her brother gave her, the fever had cleared at once.
When her hand burned, Caspian just touched it and the burns vanished.
Melissa was an atheist.
As unbelievable as these things seemed, she still refused to believe immortals existed.
Besides, her brother had just said immortals didn't exist.
She had already started the game, but the viwers remained fixated on Caspian's stunt.
[Melissa, explain to us. How did your brother move from his bedroom to your desk in an instant? Don't tell us it's magic.]
[He might not be an immortal, but that speed is something else.]
Melissa tracked the minimap while skimming their questions.
"Maybe my brother's trained well for years. There's a saying, hard work pays off. Think of Saitama. He had daily workouts and relentless training. He stuck with it for five years and became the strongest in the world."
[Sure, Saitama got strong, but he got bald, too. Your brother's stronger and somehow more handsome?]
Melissa said, "Maybe my brother's different. Trust me. Keep training and you could be the next strongest person alive."
She had offered her explanation, though most viewers clearly didn't buy it.
Caspian's speed was simply too uncanny.
[Melissa, even with your explanation, I still think there's a problem. From your brother's bedroom to the living room, I measured roughly sixty-five feet.]
[He did that in one second. That doesn't add up.]
Melissa said, "How is that impossible? Look at the 100-meter world record. People do it in eight seconds. So my brother doing twenty meters in a second shouldn't be strange."
[Twenty meters a second isn't strange?]
[Melissa, are you sure twenty meters a second isn't strange?]
[Are you sure about that?]
[Melissa, not to dunk on you, but at your brother's speed, that's almost bullet speed.]
Melissa said, "Believe what you like. My brother said there are no cultivators in this world, and he's just an ordinary person. Call it a night, guys. Oh, I listed something in the shopping section. Check it out if you're interested. If not, that's fine, too."
No sooner had she finished than everyone heard Caspian's door click open.
Then, he appeared at Melissa's side in an instant.
